I never understood why Bird was so fragile as a player. He was useless after about '88 because his back gave him trouble. He should have been able to play until the mid 1990s.

How great would it have been to have Magic's Lakers (even if it was without Kareem), Bird's Celtics and Jordan's Bulls battling it out throughout the early 90's.
@radio187 He was constantly diving on the floor and putting his body through pain. The bad back was determined to be at least somewhat hereditary by the N.E. Baptist hospital but the constant spills didn't help. The problem was that the nerve root would get scraped by bone constantly. Bird was incredibly tough.
The only time I ever cried was when the Houston Rockets wore those red uniforms.I became a diehard Spurs fan the fall of 1994.,the Spurs lost to Houston. It took me a very long time to get over it.I was very young then.,I now understand YOU CAN NOT WIN THEM ALL.JUST ASK ALL THE GREAT TEAMS. THEY ALL LOST AT SOME POINT. IT IS PART OF THE GAME., YOU WIN SOME. YOU LOSE SOME.
