Where a capo lies on a fret does not affect the pitch of the guitar. When a normal amount of pressure is applied to the fret board, the pitch is created at the fret line no matter where your finger (or capo) lies on the fret. You can however press hard on the fret to stretch the tension on the string which will sharpen the pitch a small amount. I don't agree that he is singing off pitch, but if he were he would just need to listen better. Adjusting the pitch of his guitar wouldn't help.
