You may call them heroes or not, but they are dead now, and I'm alive (and well) also because they sacrificed their lives (willingly or not) and for this, I respect them all, forever. I don't know if, in the same situation, I'd be albe to focalize on my work, without breaking down, suiciding, running away in panic, cruing, and doing very stupid things people do when they realize they are close to the end. They are heroes because they did what was right to do for the others. Thanks to you all RIP
@Ibrahimovicz1 you should really study communism before you insult it, because communism isn't dictatorship. Its an idea of equality for all people. Communism is a perfect idea, but sadly it will not work in a corrupt government. Its meant to unify people and set aside differences (ex. Americans do not get along with each other because of different political parties) Communism is meant to set aside differences. So in a way its better than capitalism.
@Gnubnub The first week after the explosion, the radiation was 2000x normal. Most of those who were closest to the reactor are dead from cancers, unfortunately.
@SMGJohn Yeah, because Soviets didn't value human life. If they were a capitalist society, they'd have had engineers who could think for themselves with bigger budgets... they could have built the reactor the right way but like everything else in the Soviet Union, the reactor was nigger rigged.
@TacticalStuart Sorry Nazi but perhaps the Soviets should just let the radioactive magma reach the Ukrainian river and we have a radioactive ocean and everyone get's cancer including your fat mama. She probably die in 1987 by breast cancer, braincancer and heavy mouth cancer. And gene mutation
i actually heard about this accident from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R game seris, got me really interested in the whole thing....is this actual footage or is it "based on a true story" kind of thing? looks like actual footage to me, just need some clarification
There's nothing I can say. When I think all those cells of the workers that radiation destroyed, I feel sad. And those WHITE pops on the film, it's not normal old film, the radiation causes white spots on film. I assume that 3:36 where they have finished the sarcophagus?
The most horrible thing about that environment, was that the ammounts of radiation was so high, that the circutry in the remote controlled robots. after a couple of days. just completely fried and the machines went beserk and rammed into a structure and caused more damage...

"Heroes" are not real protagonist of this bad story, instead, the only one real protagonist is the human stupidity and that's all.
