  • Ram Narayan...Melodic sounds magical. +++ HBD 25/12/2011

  • Incredible, as always!

  • Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing this. I definitely need to look up the artist.

  • What clarity! The-always-perfect Pandit Ram Narayan is surely a genius of our time. His technique is venerable and I have always been left astounded at his exposition of any rāg!

  • superb sarangi player

  • amazing excellence...

  • Much better version at: Ram Narayan - Mishra Pilu (raagmala)

  • The quality suck. To see a much better version of the same performance search for "narayan pilu", which was uploaded two years later.

  • superb. dil ke tar chedta hai ye instrument. u r a top ranking artist sir !

  • Such musicality, such spiritualityin his playing and his son Brij Narayan is a fascinating Sarod player and has followed in the footsteps of his father. I just got his son's Raga Lalit. It was really great. I recommend it and Ram Narayan's Malkauns is hauntingly beautiful and memorizing.

  • Por casualidad alguien sabe donde comprar un sarangi en bs as??gracias

  • from 0:24 to 0: 55 Awesome

  • I wish if someone could add some items by ustad Allah Rakha of Pakistan.

  • ustad allah rakha was indian. not pakistani.

  • @korektphool they all from planet Earth.

  • guru ji is guru ji forget about other things no ones sarangi on this planet has such a great sound

  • Can someone name the tabla playing gentleman?

  • Most probably it is Suresh Talwarkar.

    Long life to Pandit Ji!

  • wow this so great.

  • can here pilloo, miyan ki malhar, basant, shankara, hameer, darbari, lalit etc.

  • hardkaur is right..he does go into Basant..remember the song by lata/rafi Man ki been matwari baje...the line that resembles it is basant rut hai tan rang dalo etc

  • someone please upload more of him!!!!!!

  • Hi, actually I have only two of His records: (Ducale)CDL 012 - Raga Multani, Raga Durga and dhuns; together with His sonZamir Ahmad - tabla and Pandit Raghunath Prasanna - shenai. Another one is "Ananda" Ragas: Nand Kalyan, Shankara, Rageshri. PAN records 4016.

Pndit Ji lives (I hope) in Holland since 1972. Thank you for your letter, Marek S. Poland

  • In my Opinion there are 4 living Legends of this instrument.

Ustad Sabri Khan, Pandit Ram Narayan, Ustad Sultan Khan and Pandit Ramesh Mishra.

  • You had missed Ustad Munir Khan.

  • Wow i died! If He is alive then.."in my Opinion there are 5 living Legends of this instrument.

Ustad Sabri Khan, Pandit Ram Narayan, Ustad Sultan Khan, ustad munir khan and Pandit Ramesh Mishra." would you have any of ustadd munir khan sahib's recordings?

  • I want to add one master more: Abdul Latif Khan Sahib. His immortal Basant Mukhari was recorded on IAM CD 1060

    Marek

  • does he change it to raag basant in the middle?

  • this is not a single raaga he is playing. seems like a ragamalika.

  • He starts with Pilu, goes into Mala, then returns to Pilu.

  • He is the most heartfelt sarangi player...he makes the instrument sing...it is sooo sweet..

  • I dont know, Ustad Sabri Khan puts a hell of alot of emotion into his playing as well, but I do think Ram Narayan is up there

  • Dunnoooo close match maybe but Ram Narayan has the edge i think !

  • Words are not enough.

  • If anyone wants to know the meaning of the hindi word 'Mitthaas', we can always refer to this eclectic rendition.... thanks for posting this wonderful treat!

  • get the west.

  • This is so beautiful....wow, i can't imagine the emotions Ustad Ji has put into it...listening to this builds my confidence in the faith that instrument talk. Wah Ustad, Wah

  • In indian classical music, hindu musicians are never referred to as ustad, they are Pandits. Muslim musicians are ustads.

  • Yes, I am aware of the fact, I overlooked the name when commenting, I apologize for that.

  • Wower....just watchin this video for the millionth time! His name is truly synonymous with the Sarangi!

  • wah waaah ji wah!!!

  • he never lets the scale get boring and does this by not showing the tonic so much, very skillful

  • beautiful... as if he played it on my very nerves...

  • this one is killin' me up over in here eh

  • Lovely to see this excerpt by my favorite sarangi master.

  • A rag with misra in the title means that you start off from the rag you are playng like piloo and the you can go off into any rag you like but always some back to the rag you have strated off with.

  • ah, there, you've explained it for me. Now I see mala in the parentheses. Thank you. What freedom facility and clarity he has that he could make that apparent to the non-indian ear.

  • çok güzel ve hakimiyetide çok iyi sonuçta perdesiz

  • Incrediblly beautiful. Total mastery of the instrument

  • wah

  • beautiful sounding instrument

  • Pandit Ramanaryan is The Master of sarangi.

  • I don't know raags, but this one sounds complex with many different mini tonal worlds that it touches, wish I knew more so I could see the departures from what might be a more the straight version. It's so good.

  • Very sweet and deep.

  • beautiful

  • good sound

  • Fantastic, excellent, mind blowing!

  • the sound is very nice surs are perfect but doesnt sound traditional,,is it a thumri normally u hear a thumri in misra peelu but it doesnt soud like...it sounds like mixed with everything.....

  • Absolutely amazing!
