The whole point of them creating such digusting and violent music is to vent all the anger they have. They listened to this music when they were younger and it helped them get through some tough times in their life.
There are better ways to vent anger. They do what they want but I believe they just didn't have a choice. They HAD to do this in order to release anger. I'm not saying they were not smart enough to look at the other possibilities, but they went along with the wrong way of doing it. This stuff corrupted so many people, I hate that fact. No they did have a choice and didn't have to do it the way they did. This is just the music that they felt best expressed the way they were feeling. It hasn't corrupted anyone and the charge against Cannibal Corpse that happened is just like any charge against heavy metal music: shifting the blame away from the person and not getting to the real reason someone decided to commit a violent act. Society always has it's lows and we've had it far worse in the past then we've ever had it recently.
Relating to past wars from the past yes I agree with you there. But what about the people who see this differently. If this music helps people than that's ok with me but what I'm not ok with is that the other side of this mucis corrupts others as well. This stuff brings the brightest of people down it's happened before including a good friend of mine. I want to know this as well, where did the love go? Where is the pure essence of true music fled too? Was is taken over by malign? Probably.
If any form of music corrupts people then they were stupid, not well parented and screwed up to begin with. Metal is heavy, dark and violent for a reason. To make you feel powerful. It's a cathartic relase of all your negative emotions. Everyone has different ways of expressing them. Be glad they aren't doing so by acting out in a phyiscal manner. There is postivity in metal too, the sub-genres power & hair. Metal uplifits you and gives you transcendance and makes you feel like you're not alone.
music, especially this music is not bringing anything down. look at it from a different perspective then the merely superficial; they use a lot of technical elements in there writing as well as playing. and to say this music corrupts people is a completely bogus claim. its not the musics fault that some people can't differentiate between right and wrong. its like saying people that listen to rap are going to be drug dealers. thats stupid. seems like you were expecting a pop song but found this.

If people aren't capable of not doing vehement violence to their fellow man - or hurting themselves - after listening to a few songs, the problem doesn't lie in the songs. The music didn't corrupt your friend - it brought the corruption to the surface where those around him/her couldn't ignore it anymore. But I can promise that it did not put it there.
