I just have to say that this video looks way too much like a contemporary Christian youth service... Not that being a Christian is bad, I am a Christian, but when I used to go to shul regularly (years ago during a "phase of life") I went for an authentic Jewish experience, not for something that looked like a pop Christian mix. For these reasons I found Reformed shuls to be so boring and I went to a Renewalist shul.
I wished that there would be a Synagogue with new amazing music like this. The drums and instruments and guitars just make it more able to participate and want to go to temple more than just for High Holidays or Chanukkah. I am a Reformed Jew and our temple needs spark of life with new fresh worship service to gain old and young.
The synagogue you speak of exists! Rick Recht is the artist-in-residence at United Hebrew Congregation in St. Louis, MO (a reform synagogue). He leads a "Light Up Shabbat" service once a month, where he involves all musicians in the community (teens, kids, and adults). AND... we sing this L'cha Dodi! I'm actually the new Music Specialist there. Let me know if you have any questions!
@ParrotSquawk Where in Florida are you from?? I am originally from Clearwater, FL and now live in St. Louis (I'm a student at Washington University). Just to clarify, DRodnizki and Danigirl990 are both me - sorry for the different user names.
@ParrotSquawk I teach religious school music every Sunday. I also coordinate the youth choir and work with the Teen Team, a group of high school students who are learning the techniques needed for songleading. I also lead one Friday night service a month with Rick Recht entitled "Light Up Shabbat." They're just fun, music-filled services.

I am stealing this version for my Mens Club Shabbat tonight (L'cha Dodi was thrown at me at the last minute...what else is new?)
As we are a Conservative shul, we will have no amplified guitar or drum kit for accompaniment. Hope I can rock it out like Rick does. Yashir Koach!

@danigirl990 At the last minute someone else came up to the bima and I had to accompany them so I didn't sing it :(
Perhaps another time...maybe with the kidss.

What is a "music specialist?"
At most, I accompany the Cantor on guitar every Friday night but it's volunteer. I don't work in the Hebrew School.
