I bet the drink gets poisoned when the lights are off, it's the waiter pouring the drinks while everyone is watching the stage. I'm not positive....but seems likely.
Poirot doesn't make grave errors like that! Anyone, I mean anyone, even someone with only one half-drunk, damaged, tiny grey cell would have seen that one coming a mile away...sheesh!
