  • this is pretty funny

  • So bad.... If You look for good bunkai try: didier lupo jion bunkai.

  • @XEROX161991 Yeah. Exchanging bullshit that doesn't work that way with flashy bullshit that doesn't work either! How funny! Both videos are not realistic and demontrate that none of the "teachers" understood the fighting principles. Especially regarding takedowns, timing, control over the opponent, etc. The difference is just that Didier Lupo's video is more "dynamic" (easy when being younger) – so he should do instructional videos for sports karate and keep out of bunkai and selfdefense...

  • @eisbombenhagel Whose bunkai for Jion You propose ?

  • @XEROX161991 I really searched, but I haven't found any good bunkai for Jion on yt. Might be because it's not a very popular kata. So the best would be your own if you don't make mistakes like Lupo did. Let's take the first application in Lupo's video as an example: First he ignores the first action taken – the monk's salutation, which is directly followed by the "double hand block". After this the situation in the kata is "cleared". In the kata you drop your body and go back to zenkutsu dachi

  • @XEROX161991 #2 while performing the "double hand block". This indicates that the opponent's force comes from the front. Most probably out of a grab or clinch situation (remember the monk's salutation). You swallow that force and pull the opponent downwards while giving him a little rotation. This breaks his balance while you are in a good postition where you can deflect the incoming force. Notice left gedan barai! Opponent down. Lupo does the opposite. Take a look at 1:41 to 1:45.

  • @XEROX161991 #3 The block nearly does not work from the timing and the attack vector even the attacker had a long way to go. Look at the elbow position of the right arm. You can't generate any power from there and you are not in control of the attacking arm. It doesn't cover the center line, so why is it there? The footwork is also bad: The movement wasn't evasive and attacker is still in the center line and threatening Lupo's balance. The attacker could e.g. pull the tsuki back and

  • @XEROX161991 #4 trap the gedan barai, preload the hips and thrust forward into Lupo and he couldn't do anything to avoid that. He would go down because is balance is compromised. Also if the attacker pulls the hand back (what he surely will) and be it slightly, then the arm bar takedown (which is not part of the kata) wouldn't work anymore from there. This can't be an application of the movements unless it's an example on how not to do it!

  • @eisbombenhagel I just want to thank You for arguments, not stupid hating :) I will think about what You have written. I am not very advance in Karate, but I try to do progress every day :) I will consider what I've read :) Thanks for post :)
