@starwarslover015 That's the whole point of the exchange. He pictures himself as the dashing rogue, so he only takes offense to the derogatory statement about his looks. Also, the fact that she calls him scruffy-looking as he's walking away, and only after the 'nerf herder' part does he turn around to object does kinda showcase the halfwit part :p
@starwarslover015 Actually, according to something I read in Star Wars Insider, although a Nerf looks more like a cow than a pig, calling someone a Nerf Herder would be more like calling someone a Pig farmer. Both pigs and Nerfs smell and so do those who tend them.
@starwarslover015 A nerfherder is kind of like, um, some one who herds cows. Of course, they don't have cows in the Star Wars universe so they came up with a similar animal called a 'nerf'. Nerf steak is a popular dish for humans of the galaxy. So, Leia was basically calling him, um...a smelly farmer.
@loqutor lol, nice. Though, if you really want to analyze the grammar of what you wrote, scruffy-looking describes the nerf since you negated a comma. However, I'm pretty sure Leia describes a horrible herder as she says: "stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking, nerf herder." All of the commas, denoted by her pauses, identify adjectives for herder (including nerf).
@1337pino actually you're running into a standard confusion with between the people who use the oxford comma (me) and people who don't (evil silly people who don't understand the pure silliness of improper, foolish, and heretical comma usage).
@Queelez yep. Oxford comma is optional. That and the semicolon in 99.999% of usages. I don't mind usage/not usage of the oxford, it really doesn't affect it either way (though like you, I like to use it). I do have a beef with semicolon usage b/c people use it just to say "look, I can use it". there is only one scenario where it is necessary and it is highly uncommon. most situations its used, you can easily replace it with a period and nothing is lost. /endrant on semicolon

Funny that Han Solo may not be scruffy looking now, but when Harrison Ford played Indiana Jones in Raiders right after Empire Strikes Back, he was indeed scruffy looking!

@thePolerin Actually, the oxford comma is optional. I personally prefer to use it, but there's no 'right' way, if my memory serves.
Queelez 11 months ago
@Queelez It was ha ha only serious. I know it's optional, but it IS a common confusion when the oxford comma is not used.
