What's really fucked about this sequel is that in the first game you could shoot out of your car. And the mechanics in the first actually worked quite well. Mafia II wasn't bad, but it needed a lot of work. And the Joe's Adventure add-on was fun, but completely turned the mission structure seen in Mafia II, upside down. Which killed it.

Well it is sandbox, but just not a very good one... i mean the game is great and the story is amazing, but like you say it's linear as hell! You drive from one place to another, and then another, and then another, no side missions and such, but you can still drive around the city and buy clothing and other stuff, so it is still a sandbox game by definiton
