Idina Menzel gave a very tinny, shrilly, zero torque rendition on tis funny girl classic. She's way out of her league. i felt so sorry for Barbra, they could have done so much better. what a disappointment.

I still don't quite get the idea that just winning one Academy Award qualifies you for it...I jsut checked Streisand's body of work and came out 2 academy awards, 1 tony, FRench legion of honors, 8 grammys, 10 golden globes and go figure if you have time how many emmys, peabody, sag awards....Freeman, The Who, Jones...uhmmm...I don't get it...Talented sure but "Ground breaking, deep impact in american culture, lifetime commitment??Sinatra, Aretha, Graham, Tharp, Scorcese...I get it

I also agree with the idea that I thought these type of honors were given to "lifelong, ground breaking impact, major influence in American Culture" I agree Barbra Streisand and Twyla Tharp fit this category along with former recepients like Aretha, Carol Burnett, Sinatra, Redford, Lucille Ball, Barishniknov, Chita Rivera, Martha Graham to name a few

Freeman gives pretty much the same performance over and over

Daisy was good, Shawshank was good

the rest is just ok

and none of it stands up to the work of Tharp, Streisand, or The Who

im not saying he sucks, but hes hardly worthy of the most prestigious award out there.

hes never displayed a great range, broken new ground, been a great director, producer, writer or anyting. he just a pretty good actor, not even a great one

he's an Oscar winning actor. Plus the same role gave him a SAG award, so the guild respects him. With an Oscar, he has the Academy on his side..so yeah, it's basically the Academy's opinion versus yours...sorry to say, i think the Academy wins out. And he was Oscar-nominated for The Shawshank Redemption...that film alone is enough for him to get this honor, IMO.

ok, but his performance was hardly earthshattering. the oscars for the last decade have ZERO credibility. its been glamour girls, sorry-about-segregation,

or imitate someone real and win an oscar.

J-Hud, Foxx, Zeta-Jones, Reese, Bardem, Swank, Charlize, none deserved their oscar.

and then the imitators, Capote, Ray, Queen E, June Cash, Piaf, and so on.

Now, the Kennedy Center Honor says its given to someone who has impacted American culture through the arts. not did a good movie or two.

the tour she just did, broke the box office record in every venue it played, the who has never done that, and neither has anyone else,

they are not even close to her star status

but they are legends of rock and i love them
