  • I love this video I got my motorcycle licenses a few years ago and was debating on a sport bike or cruiser. I actually would love to own and drive a vintage bike, like yours. I'm guessing it feels solid and secure when riding versus today bikes. Thanks for the videos!

Thanks glad u liked it. YEA.. I was bad on the signal cancel. But the camera was right in the way. I could not see the indicator flashing. And my switch has NO FEEL AT ALL. It just moves left and right, somewhere in the middle being OFF :)

  • Really enjoyable video, great unspoiled sound and vision, really sweet running cx and a nice long run - felt like I was on it.! Many thanks for your time.& effort.

  • @mk3zeph6

Thanks glad you liked it.. I have some others that are longer vids with a better camera. They are all posted on my YouTube page.

  • got a question, are the CX 500s' a good beginners bike?

  • @HamptonBallance

Well it depends on a few things. If you are resonably tall then yes. if your short legged then probably not. The bike is a great bike, but it is a little top heavy.. not so much while riding it, but when trying to move it around it is easy to drop. The bike weighs almost 500 lbs.

If your shorter I would start with a Ninja 250, its light, its the same acceleration as the CX500 and easy to find parts for. Don't be fooled by the 250cc, its PLENTY quick for a beginer bike.

  • I am sorry, somehow I missed your comment. I would say yes and no, if the bike does not seem too heavy for you then YES, it is making decent power, but not enough to be scary. If you are on the short side, 5ft 8 or less. I would say no. I would highly suggest you also look at a Ninja 250. I would stay away from 87-88 after that they are all basically the same until 2008. Its a light bike low seat, and just as quick as the CX500. The new ones are really nice go and sit on one.

  • Man, I can't wait to get my "new" CX running. I traded a rifle for it because the previous owner just didn't have the time to fix the electrical problem. I've been commuting two miles to work for the past two summers on a 1970 Honda 90 Trail bike. With gas prices reaching $4 a gallon, I'm sold on bikes now. This 1979 CX500 will be my first large street bike. I owned a CR350R dirt bike when I lived in California. Your video has got me excited. Well, this is my winter project -- to get it running.

  • @scottks5

Glad to meet another CX'er they are good bike, but like any 30+ year old machine they can suffer from problems. There are a few "common" issues. I would check out this forum if you need ssome help.. or you can ask me too.. I am by no means and expert but would be happy to help.

I cant post the URL.. but search for choppercharles and it will take you to the forum. Some great guys on there.

  • Awesome vid. Must say I really like the way you change gears. Mine CX doesn't seem to do cooperate here that smoothly. But maybe it's just a matter of clutch adjustment or... lack of skills:D Anyway, Greetings from Poland

  • Thanks, for the compliment,

my shifter can be a bit clunky too, I do use the clutch when shifting, otherwise it is pretty hard to get to shift smoothly, Your issue could be clutch adjustment too, if it's not releasing completely it wont shift easiliy. One other thing is my bike has 71,000 miles on it... so its certainly well worn in that could play a role too.

  • Engine sounds nice for a mileage.Great Vlog :)

    Shep(you know who I am) :D

  • Nice video,

you took a long time after you made a turn left or right to turn of your blinkers.

    But then you explained it.

    The camera blocked the vision.

greetings from a CX-enthouisiast from Belgium.

    Edgard

  • Thanks, the Cx's are great bikes, as any old bike they have their issues. Check out my other vid on the CDI replacement., they are getting hard to find in the USA. I got a programmable one from IgniTech in the Czech Replublic. They were GREAT!! they proccessed my payment the day after I payed, it took one week to get to me. If you need one, they are a great option.. it does not use the stator for imput only the pulsers, and a 12V source. Cost was $227 (147 Euro)

  • Awesome first vlog! Bike looks/sounds nice :D

reminds me of my first vlog (kinda) :D

take care and I'll keep watching,

    Rebel

  • Thanks.. I did post the CDI install vid too.
