  • This was very helpful, I got a free craftsman blower and figured out the guy that gave to me couldn't get it to run because it didn't have a throttle spring on it, lol fixed thanks to the 5hp Tecumseh linkage vid,. I'm curious as to why these things can run and start ok but as I found, the muffler turns into a night light? Found this video and though it ran ok, the settings were f'd up bad, super rich, just found it odd the muffler got so hot being rich, never seen a Briggs or Honda do that

  • @2009deerejohn if the carb is set too lean the muffler can glow red, also if the exhaust valve is leaking it can also glow red

  • great vid. very helpful. One other thing, is there any way to get the metal vent to stay in the gas cap? My metal cup vent has fallen out and the pin is still there but it dosen't have enough lip left to hold the cup up. Would it be possible to glue it or somthing?

  • @troutbum1000 better to get a new cap

  • @troutbum1000 I'm not Dony and he knows best of course, and I agree getting a new cap is best but maybe you could rest the metal cap on and heat up a punch and melt a new lip on the pin that might work, just a suggestion but Dony knows best here :]

  • Thank you. Very helpful. Also the governor adjustment video. Thanks !!

  • when you are adjusting the needle underneath the carb is the idle lever in the high or low position? thanks

  • THanks for your video .... my Craftsman (C950-52843-0 27inch) will start, and after a while .... in stalls ... i will be able to restart it after i wait a while ..... but i will eventually stall again. Any ideas what this might be ? PLug ?? Carburetor deposits ? ... i have to say that i forgot a bit of fuel in the tank last spring / summer :( .... THANKS FOR ANY HELP! :)

  • @AztecBodyart when it dies check the spark, let me know

  • @AztecBodyart i know why, it's a Craftsman!!!!

  • @AztecBodyart """ Ok ... i just changed the plug ... now it's OK ! it runs and doesn't stall anymore. Next spring ... i'll put a ''summer gas'' and fuel stabiliser in the tank. :)

  • Awesome video. I was looking for how to adjust my top end RPMs and found your video...VERY well produced, both on the video end and on the instruction end...you make it all very clear and easy. I'd enjoy watching the video even if my snowblower didn't need help!

I think you need a PayPay tip jar :o)

  • @fledertit Cripes, you beat me to it. just checked your main site and PayPal link..So much for fresh ideas...

  • @fledertit tips are always nice, lol make sure to subscribe

  • Awesome quick tech video - much appreciated!

  • Thanks a bunch for the tips. You just saved me an hour of putzing around with the adjustments.

  • thanx dude!! really appreciate it!

  • Thanks man...I think you just saved me some time. I just did a rebuild on my tecumseh carb and its running fine with full choke but when you turn the choke off it sputters and dies. I ended up setting the fuel mixture screw out 2.5 turns..looks like I went a bit too far.

  • Thank you. Very helpful. Finally ot around to tuning up the snowblower for the winter ahead and seemed to lose some of my knowledge on Tecumseh carbs.

  • Great vids! I have the same Tec engine with the old carburetor and when I prime it it squirts gas and the priming rubber feels spongy as if it's not building pressure. Do you know what it could be?

  • Like all of your vids this one is very comprehensive and well done. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. With over 65,000 views you should have your own show on a home improvement channel. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • @cardo1111 thanks!

  • Do u have a video on a carb with automatic choke?

  • awesome, followed all directions, and had my craftsman 5hp,22", Tecumseh engine running just right. wrote all steps down 1st, then followed... great resource, thank you

  • @Compton1979 thanks for watching

  • thanks for this video. i had my snowblower running/idling smooth after 5 mins.

  • Hi, I have a newer craftsman snowblower without the carb adjusting screw. It runs fine on full or half choke, but runs rough on Run(choke off). I tried adjusting the idle screw but the screw is now all the way in and it still runs a little rough. Any thoughts on what to do next?

    Thanks.

  • - one of the hottest days of summer & I'm looking at this - goes to show you I'm already thinking about the snow and how I've got to get busy fixing the blower before the white stuff begins to fall again - great instructions & vid - thanks muchly!

  • @papasmeghead lol, i had a guy drop a snowblower off when it was 80 degrees

  • Just wanted to say thanks it also worked for a Tecumseh powered lawn mower. I had to clean the carb and get it back to running and this vid was an excellent resource.

  • Dude, this is great. The video is clear, the close ups are clear and the audio is also clear. Really had adjustment settings on my tecumseh powered snow blower. Thanks

    Keep on the great video.

  • @Esaie2222 all my new videos are HD now, make sure to sub

  • @Esaie2222 je parle francais aussi

  • @donyboy73

Merci encore et tes conseils m'ont permit de faire fonctionner mon chasse neige comme il a jamais fonctionner avant.

  • you should be an Instructor....great video..thank you

  • Very to the point and easy to understand, Love it!

  • Thank you for the intelligent composition and the quality content. Helped me a lot.

  • @ChannelErik thank you sir

  • What are owners of new snowblowers supposed to do with non adjustable carbs that run too lean? I have a 1 year old Snapper snowblower that idles and stalls terribly and it's been used 4 times. My Snapper dealer had it for 2 weeks and it's still runs too lean! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Its a briggs and Stratton snowking engine. 9.00 gross torque. No H.P rating and no manual throttle!

  • @charger19691 usually adjust the float but if u just bought it let them fix it and call briggs to complain

  • This was great thanks!

  • excellent video's thank you.

  • I have a snowblower with a Tecumseh non adjustable carburetor that runs fine at full throttle but stalls when the throttle is lowered below about 3/4 (will not idle). Any idea what the problem is? Thanks!

  • @RixceU tecumsehs are notorious for not idling properly, you can try adjusting the small torx screw on top of the carb. there is a small hole in the carb cover to insert a torx screwdriver

  • @donyboy73 yeah I'll try that, thanks!

do tecumsehs also have frequent carburetor clogging issues? the jets were really dirty after taking it out of storage at the beginning of this season and it wouldn't run unless the choke was on before I cleaned them.

  • @RixceU yes

  • Wow, thank you. I'd been searching for a couple of days for a Tecumseh manual so I could figure out how to tune it. I couldn't find anything until this video which is perfect. Thank you. Using a 20 year old engine and it is now running well.

  • My muffler is getting red hot and a blue flame is coming out every once and a while...is that bad?

  • @stripes5150 it might be running too lean or the exhaust valve is leaking

  • @donyboy73 I'm an electrician...not a mechanic but I'm working on it..lol...thanks.

  • @stripes5150 I'm an electrician...not a mechanic but I'm working on it...lol...thanks.

  • Thanks for your very clear and helpful videos. My neighbors moved from Maine to Florida last year and gifted their 15 year old snowblower to me. Your videos have allowed this rank amateur to keep it running smoothly, and this winter I've needed it often.

    joestetson142

  • @joestetson142 your welcome, nice to hear stuff like that

  • donyboy73.....great video! I just recently purchased a used older Toro blower with a 6HP Tecumseh engine with the older style carb like in your video. Like others, I can get it to start and run for awhile, but it seems to conk out and not restart until it cools off. Ive tried your adjustments and am going to try again today. Will a new style adjustment free carb fit onto the older models? Thinking about switching them after the season. Only stays running with choke on 2nd or 3rd position

  • @mroilman123 watch my recent videos on repair of the 5hp tecumseh carb , pretty well the same carb as on ur blower "HOW TO REBUILD Carburetor on 4-5HP Tecumseh Snowblower Engine Part 1/3 "

  • Does anyone know if it's possible to have the high-speed mixture screw set so rich that the engine consumes more fuel at W.O.T. than can get past the inlet seat/needle??? I'm having trouble with the engine stalling under high-RPM with high-load conditions. Seems like the engine is fuel starved.

  • thank you for putting up a very informative and well filmed video on how to maintain a snowblower your videos on how to clean and rebuild the carb are the best on youtube

  • @pigtumbler thank you sir

  • Hi donyboy!

Just wanted to thank you, my snowblower was acting up and with your help it is

    up and running again.

    Once again thank you man!

  • @Moralesmar09 good job!

  • Good Video. I have a craftmans Snowblower 5Hp. The engine only runs with choke closed. When I open the choke, The engine idle rough and try to stall. How can I correct this?? Thanks for your help!

  • @joerae1atnetzero look up my tecumseh carburetor repair videos on my channel page

  • @donyboy73 I will do, Does it matter if does not have tecumseh carburetor? Thanks

  • YOU ROCK MAN!! My craftsman 10/32 is back from the dead thanks to you!! You are awesome at making this stuff understandable, and I just cant thank you enough!!! God bless ya bud!!!

  • @topfuelrocker thanks dude!

  • Very informative! thanks so much...machine runs great, thanks to your video.

  • My Ariens works great except for one problem. When moving a lot of snow the engine suddenly stalls out for no apparent reason. It has nothing to do with the auger/impeller get jammed up. I've found that if I shake the whole blower as it starts to stall, it sometimes comes back. I did clean the carburetor and adjust the mixture screws. Is this likely a problem with the high-speed jet getting plugged?? Or, something else??? Should I drain the float-bowl??

  • @whitegreg56 make sure the float is empty in the carb, u can try adjusting the carb again and make sure the bowl o-ring id=s good

  • @donyboy73 My craftman snowblower stay running when the choke is closed . If i open choke the choke it want to stahl. What is the problem?

  • @donyboy73 The float and O-ring are brand new. The engine stalls out when I drain a bit of fuel from the float bowl (using the spring-loaded drain valve). It sounds like maybe the engine is fuel-starved....that may explain why it only stalls when moving a lot of snow. Could this be a plugged filter in the bottom of the fuel tank? Or, a clogged L-connector underneath the fuel tank? Clogged fuel-inlet on the carburetor? Something else?

  • Thank you ,Thank you, Thank you, In a snow storm here [new brunswick] now and the blower is in need of some adjustment found what I needed on youtube . thank you ' donyboy '

  • @akaleewest make sure to subscribe

  • Thank you for your instruction snowblower video. My 11hp Briggs & Stratton engine is not much different and i did everything you did and I was able to adjust my fuel mixture and points. My engine runs great. Thank you. You did a great job. A+A+A+

  • Thank you! My snow-thrower is running great thanks to your help.

  • Very easy to understand you do an excellent job explaining what you are doing

  • @The1Camshaft thank you

  • Excellent video, got my old snowblower running great, using this video and the "carb cleaning" one.... Thanks!

  • sanded , fluxed & soldered the logged float bowl, works well now

  • @eccentric4u good job, they are inexpensive to buy on ebay

  • Great video! Very informative. I didn't know about the little screw on the throttle lever, so tomorrow I'll take a look and give it a twist to get a little more RPM out of the engine. Now that I've seen this video I may need to open up my idle adjustment a bit more because the idle is quite a bit higher than what you show. Perhaps I have my idle leaner then it should be. Now off to watch the governor video...

  • hey dony i'm having a problem with my snowblower i have a 9hp tecumseh snowblower engine. i have the older style carburetor. it runs good when i start blowing snow the engine bogs down then it picks up and does it again. i took the carburetor apart and clean it up and put it back together and is still doing can you tell me what i should do to fix the problem hope to hear from you soon.

  • @stdudly01 check the gas cap, i have a gas cap video for tecumseh, check it out in my channel, also go to my channel and checout my tecumseh repair videos for carburetors, sometimes if u don't clean all areas u will have the problems u describe

  • @donyboy73 dony i did what you said to check out and is still doing. it there a guy i know he would look at it for free beacuse he owns me some money. if he cant fix it im just going to take that motor out and put a 10hp in it beacuse i put alot of money in that motor since i got it rebuild the motor like 3 times got the carburetor done like 5 in 6 years having it

  • I have the same carb on my 5 HP craftsman snowblower. I've taken it apart and rebuilt it using a rebuild kit from craftsman and i got it to run. I've got it running good but after i shut it off and it sits for a while the carb leaks through where the bowl mounts to the carb body. i replaced that oring with the new oring from the carb kit. i also have it as tight as i can get it with the screw no the botttom of the bowl...any suggestions?

  • @orkiss check the float, take it off, shake it, if you hear gas in it replace it

  • oh and my carb system is the same older one like yours, how many turns do you do on all your screws?

  • @3ldgrande about 12/2 out for the bottom and about 1 turn for the side screw

  • hey thanks for all your help, getting my grandmas blower working after 10 years of sitting idle was an ease thanks to your tutorials, but i just have 1 problem.. when i up the throttle from the turtle to rabit, it seems to rev fine and when it idles it just hums but when i go to put it all the way the thing sputters shoots out quite a bit of smoke and then stalls... is there something im missing? ive been messing with the govern arm but still no real results...

  • @3ldgrande turn out the bottom screw a bit, if it's been sitting for 10 years it probably needs a carb kit and a good cleaning

  • Hi Donyboy

I have a craftsman snowblower with the mixer bolt on the bottom. The problem is when the choke control is set to "FULL" it starts and runs fine. As soon as i switch the choke control to "OFF" it dies. Could you tell me what's wrong with it. Could it related to the carburetor ? I Can't get it to start on "OFF" choke

  • @microgenic u always have to start it with choke on. sounds like ur carburetor needs cleaning. look through my videos and u will find a video on how to clean a snowblower carb with a tecumseh engine

  • hey donyboy, i have a 7hp tecumseh snowblower engine with the same problem as microgenic it will only run and stay running fully choked. i have cleaned and replaced parts annd tuned the carb using your videos. but still have same result. Do you have any thoughts on why?

  • i hate the old carbs i have a 1990 bolens with a 8hp tecumseh with adjustable carb and i have many problems with it and have to keep adjusting it for some reason

  • @Joeyad4 usually they do that when the carb needs a rebuild kit

  • @donyboy73 yea i was planning on getting one befor this winter

  • what kind of camera do you use

  • @Joeyad4 i just have an old JVC camera at the moment until I buy an HD camera

  • lol they do line up its just not tuneing right butt i wached your vids i think i can do it now thanks

  • hay whats up i got a 6 hp tecumseh im putin 10 hp tecumseh carb on it havin trubl ajustin it

  • @jokerrpg the holes may not line up, it's made for a bigger engine

  • Thanks. I have a jacobsen lawn tractor that I can't adjust the carb because it seems to miss and cause the governor to go nuts.

  • Nice videos donyboy.

I rebuild my carburetor like you showed in the video. After reassembling the carb i primed it two times and it started on the first pull. These engines are exellent engines as long as they are taken care of.

Keep the videos coming, they are very good with easy explaining.

    Thank you,

  • sounds like a dirty carb, hard to say over the internet

  • great video's,what about when your mastercraft 10hp tecumseh seems to run okay when standing still, but seems to bog down when entering deep snow.Even if u go to 1st speed.??will follow up with model number as u might have owners manual ,i can get off u !! thx

  • pm me ur email and model number. also check my video "HOW TO ADJUST SNOWBLOWER ENGINE SPEED GOVERNOR" you might have to tighten the little screw on throttle lever

  • Thank you very much for posting this video.

  • I bought my snow blower in 2008 its a Craftman 28inches (Briggs and Stratton engine). my question is to prevent a carburetor problems in the near future...any suggestion to keep it hassle free for a few years?. thanks in advance...by the way your video is very easy to follow, and understand..thanks again for sharing your knowlege with us.

  • I replaced my blown (con rod thru cylinder wall) adjustable jet 1996 Tecumseh 10HP Snow King with a new one that has the black plastic cap over the idle jet screw. As there was no spring on the idle jet screw, I suspected it, had been re-designed as a fixed jet, and after unclogging the jet I snugged it down just slightly more than finger-tight. Fired up, the motor runs great at full and idle. Your video was a great help, and snow is due tonight.

  • donnyboy73 good video, i have a 9 hp tec with a epa carb no adjustments and i just can`t get this thing tuned up so it runs smooth is this just normal ,for these carbs , under no load it just doesn`t puur it rumbles and studers any advice thanks

  • sounds like a dirty carb or water in it.

    is ur engine overhead valve?

  • no it`s a L head Tecumseh, i did clean it and replaced needle and seat valve but did not do a full carb kit,

i watched your video on friction disc replacement, very helpfull info..thanks

you do a great job try breaking down that weedeater blower bv1650 mine needs a carb cleaning next ....lol

  • Great videos. I have the old style carb on my Tecumseh 5hp MTD. It's 17 years old and works great. Any idea why they no longer use the adjustable screw?

Also, can you do a write up on CC vs. Horepower vs. torque or however else the new snowblowers are measured?

  • apparently for better emissions control. i'll try to do a video as u suggested. thanks

  • cool video

  • thanks
