I had to provide a feeder for a walk-in freezer and the installer kept telling me "all we need is a 30A/2P fed service disconnect", until I ask to see the manufacture's cut sheet and........sure enough the specs called out for a separate 20A/2P breaker for the condenser and a 15A/2P breaker for the evaporator. I guess for most cases they were use to doing a turnkey installations. Glad I have a loyal customer
HEY THERE usally when I do walk in coolers I use emt and bell boxes. I come out of the switch with emt and 2 inches out of the cooler I place a 4 square box and after I wire it I fill the pipe with a can of insulation preventing moisture and your lights or conduits to fill with water
people do not realize how dangerous hacked electrical work is- save money on the install by not hiring an electrician and run the risk of burning your place down- i just dont get it!!!
Where do you get the national electric code, I looked for it online some time back (because I'm that nerdy) but all I could find were online stores selling it for an rip off price.
@weasel2htm the best you could do is around the $85.00- $150.00 area depending on if you want a soft or hard cover Unless you know a EC or have a account at a supplyhouse. BTW the 2011 NEC is out now.
@sparkyUonline I remember you mentioning the uglys book an an older video, I have yet to pick one up but plan to at some point, I'm a do it yourselfer and If I'm going to do it, I'm want to do it as good or better then if I hired somebody to do it, esp. electrical.

@GypsyMoFoJoe One of the many reasons I will double check all units before final wiring.

I think I would use a bell box with liquidtight flex, sealtight connectors and and a weatherproof cover and install it as you mentioned.

Yes they are pricey but consider it a required tool of the trade. $76.5 at BN right now.
Check used book stores. You can get a Ugly's book for $15 at the big box stores.Good resource to have if you don't have the bucks for the big book.
