There's pop versions of just about every genre, but Punk wasn't -specifically- meant to be poppyl; influential punk bands like the Misfits and Bad Religion certainly don't help the case for calling Punk a genre aspiring to be more like "straight-up pop music." I'm not saying all pop is bad, but early Punk, like a lot of early genres, was pretty anti-pop.
