i am a telugiite .. no clue what the lyrics mean... nevertheless a beautiful language and a fantastic score. this song instantly transports me back to my childhood
I agree about the prelude, the tempo and timing is pretty off until after the first interlude (you can see Raaja waving his baton furiously), but it's proof that they're such pros that they pulled it together to turn the second half of the song into something that may be better than the original, with Sivamani ripping it up. Oh, and the original has beautiful bass, but some of those parts are done on keys here, which changes the feel.
I believe the drums was by SivaMani? Cool playing. Is that the famous Sasi on bass? I'm a big fan of Sasi's!! Though on this song the funky bass was originally played by Jo JO, I guess. Great bunch of musicians led by the ever great Ilaiyaraja Sir.
I remember listening to this song in 1988 on my brand new stereo at home, and that is the first time, my parents and I gathered together to listen to a film song in a long time. Wow, brings back beautiful memories. Thanks for posting this.

Chitra can never produce the expressions of Janaki....In fact no south Indian singer can match the emotions provided by S Janaki in her songs....I didnt include whole India because Iam not aware of them....Shreya Goshal who is considered the successor of Chitra struggled to produce the magic provided by janaki in the song Katril Enthan geetham..whole Tamil nadu witnessed it and I bet everyone including Ilayaraja missed Janaki in this show
chitra sang this song so beautifully, even in the original film. the best thing about ilayaraja's music is that even a modern song like this is based on a Raga.
Good Beats....

JANAKIJI IS GREAT. THAT DOESN'T MEAN CHITRAJI IS LESS
JANAKIJI SINGS WITH EASE AND PERFECTION. SHE NEVER GETS STRAINED. I HAVE ATTENDED FEW CONCERTS GIVEN BY HER.
IT IS MY PURE PERSONAL OPINION.
NOT AGAINST OTHERS.
APOLOGIES IF I HURT ANY ONE.
BLESSINGS

பாடலை வர்ணிப்பதற்கு வார்தையே இல்லை. சித்ரவின் குரல் இன்றும் அன்றுபோல் இருகிறது.

chitra has won more all india best singer awards than .Janaki. She was given the title chinna kuyil for nothing.

Very nice song! Wonderful percussions by Sivamani. Unfortunately, the best part of the song, the prelude, has been messed up!
