  • Nice room. I myself opted for the sofa option...lol

  • @artofvinyl - It was not an easy decision. I'm still happy with the chairs, though. They're big and comfortable. When are we going to get to see your music room?

  • @EoLoVoX As soon as I get a day off I am intending to try and film it. Rooms in the UK are generally smaller than those cavernous man caves you seem to enjoy in the US.

  • @artofvinyl - Let me know if/when you do. I'd love to see it.

I got pretty lucky with the space that I have. We needed to build an addition to the house for other reasons, and managed to afford to include a finished basement (for the music room) in the plans. There isn't a day that goes by where I don't appreciate it!

  • Congratulations! That is a dream of my own!

  • @golfoparadiso - Thanks! Keep the dream alive and it will happen!

  • Loved the turntable too...looks like a nice vintage one.

  • @MRVYNIL66 - It's a Pro-Ject 2.9 "Wood Classic" - Not exactly vintage, but no longer on the market. Somewhere just above Pro-Ject's Debut III line of turntables.

  • That is a nicely widespread music room. Looks nice, clean and with everything needed to enjoy time alone or with friends/family to enjoy music. I did my own music room too (my garage actually) which I converted specifically for it. Thanks for sharing something personal like that.

  • @MRVYNIL66 - Thanks! I love it down there, just as I'm sure you love your music room. It's so great to have a space dedicated to listening to music. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • I want this!

  • @johnfloy - Trust me, I felt like that for many years. I'm so glad we could eventually make it happen. It sounds cliché, but keep your dream alive.

  • "Overflow problems with my overflow". Haha, tell me about it!

Great video, by the way, that makes me want to join in with something similar of my collection.

  • @testit01 - You SHOULD join in! What a perfect excuse to make a video. Seriously, if you do start making any vinyl community videos, drop me a line and I'll subscribe to your channel. I love to see other collections and music rooms!

  • Thanks for guiding me to the tour. Enjoyed it very much. It's a nice size room. My space is my Bose headphones. There was this place that i used to go to buy my vinyl singles and he had a jukebox for sale. When that one sold he would get another one. But it's gone. That guy trusted me enough to go through singles he had just bought. I spent hours there. But thanks for the tour

  • @whiteboy7931 - That place with the jukeboxes sounds pretty cool. It's always good to develop a rapport with good record store people. They can let you in on some great stuff!

  • yes, i am very very jealous

  • @EngelNr666 - Make a plan for your own room and see it through! There was definitely a time when I was just as jealous of some other music rooms that I saw. You can do this too.

  • Man that's a beautiful room. I know what you mean by addiction, I only own 8 records and I can't wait to get more. Still need my own record player, receiver and speakers but I'm working on it lol

  • @cooper210 - You've got to start somewhere, and it sounds like you've certainly got the passion for it. May you find a turntable and stereo that suits your needs - soon - so you can start spinning those records and more!

  • Nice video with quite nice editing too. I did note a tv there, a thick one. =) I suppose you've got a newer tv in some livingroom but wouldn't be surprised if you haven't since some collectors care more about the music and sound equpment rather than anything else. =D

    Cheers!

  • @vinylmaniac - Yep, that sure is an old TV. I'm not sure why I keep it down there because I very rarely use it. You're right that we've got a newer wide-screen in the living room. I've been thinking about getting a nicer TV for the music room but, as you suspected, it's just not a very high priority. When I'm in that room, I'm perfectly content listening to music for as long as I can get away with it! Thanks for watching!

  • @EoLoVoX I hope you didn't take my comment about your tv seriously. As I read it you didn't. =) What I tried to say was Some people spend money on One specific kind of item-genre rather than an overall interest. (Sorry, I'm swede - don't always know how to explain).

Your videos are so, how to speak, natural. Keep it up!

  • @vinylmaniac - No worries! I knew you were teasing me about the TV, but rightfully so! I'll admit that, at least in my music room, I've spent a lot more money on stereo equipment and music than anything else. I definitely understood what you meant, so don't worry about that at all. Thanks for your kind words, too!

  • Beautiful. I am envious.

  • @RayGunOfDeath - Thanks! This was a long time hoping and planning. I feel pretty lucky.

  • tv is the best :-)

  • @subsonic600 - Definitely the highlight of the room, isn't it!

  • Hi, very nice room, and tastefully done. I was wondering what wood you used to construct your shelving units. Thanks!

  • @herrdruhl - Thank you. Just the other day, I was trying to remember what we used for the shelves when we built them. I've run out of room for records and need to build at least one more. I know that the wood was 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) A/B grade plywood, in either birch or ash (for strength). The exposed plywood ends were then faced with thin, rounded trim board before I stained all three units. Each unit is 2 feet (0.6 m) wide and, if you're planning to build some, I wouldn't make them any wider.

  • Awsome!!

  • @TheFplopes - Thanks!

  • very neat and organized room! mine looks like a clutter hole due to the finished attic and lack of room, but i call it organized chaos and I love escaping to it from wife! HAHA

  • @jcashfan365 - Thanks! Isn't it great to have a space that you can go to be with all your music and shut out the world? I love my music room for that reason, but also have people over to enjoy it with me from time to time. Thanks for watching!

  • wow, just beautiful!

    greetings from germany ;)

  • @TheMusic4Soul - Thank you, and greetings right back to you!

  • i could get myself lost in there for days.i really enjoy your videos b.t.w!

  • @cosmicrider287 - Thanks so much for saying that! I really enjoy this space.

  • scence it's easy for me to enjoy two awesome things at once, I'm listening to Seconds Out and Watching this video at the same time :)

  • @FuyuAkiWorld - Thank you for including this in the awesomeness! 'Seconds Out' is nothing short of phenomenal.

  • Beautiful Music Room!!!

  • @Forky104 - Thank you! It's kind of a dream come true.

  • Hey! No bean-bags?!?!? Whats going on there?...Also the 'den' needs a cool nick-name......like 'Basie's dungeon' or something.

  • @TheStokes79 - Ha! No bean bags, no shag carpet, no lava lamps. (I did buy my wife a lava lamp, at her request, for her last birthday. It's pretty cool!) I'll have to work on that name thing. So far, we just refer to it as the music room, as boring as that is. "Den of Iniquity" perhaps? Naahhh! This is a family show!

  • The only problem I see in collecting records. These records take up so much space.I only buy music that bring a memory to me,of a time or place in my life. There just not enough room or time to search for so many records.I thing the mp3 is the most logical way to go.Plus usually there only a few good songs in a record.Mp3 I pick only what I like and give up that wonderful vinyl sound.Love your room look great. Thanks for showing it.

  • @JAMBONE9 - I know what you're saying. I have to say, though, that I'm no stranger to digital music. I've certainly got a well-used iPod and music on every computer that I own. In fact, I also have a 2TB wireless music server in my house, making FLAC files of all my CDs playable in almost any room at any time.

I don't know your age, but I grew up with vinyl. Along with it, I grew up with a very tactile relationship to music. I love everything about vinyl and record sleeves. It's in my blood.

  • Awesome !

  • @DARU37 - Thanks!

  • Nice music room! Where do you buy your record album frames?

  • @chadoy2000 - Thanks! I get the frames at a craft store chain called Michael's. The frames are black aluminum, wood back with metal clips, and the glass is real (not plexiglass.) Here in the midwest, Michael's regular price for them is $10 each but they often have sales where that goes down to $5-6. At least once a year - sometime in April? - they have them on sale for $4 each, which is when I tend to stock up.

  • You've got a VPI?! Super jealous man!! I'd love to get one at some point. How do you find time to listen to all that stuff? That's one of the questions in my most recent vinyl thread. Seems like it's gonna start getting overwhelming soon! :)

  • @McSoappy - I've got a couple friends that act like collecting music is a race; both a race to buy it as well as a race to be the first to listen to it. A long time ago, I decided that I wasn't interested in that kind of stress. Sometimes my collection does feel overwhelming but, more often than not, I tend to look at it more like a library stocked with books that I love. I decide what kind of mood I'm in and then pick something out to spin. I try to keep it fairly simple. Thanks for watching!

  • @EoLoVoX Very well put! Really nice way of looking at it!

  • Music room tours are always a hit! I've already said this, but I envy your music space. Some day I hope to have something very similar. Thanks for the thorough rundown.

  • @JasonsVinylObsession - Thanks Jason! Don't sell yourself short, though. You've got a great music room! The truth is, I just got lucky when building our addition that we were able to afford to make this happen. Keep planning for your ideal music room and you'll make it happen. As always, thanks for watching!

  • I remember that they actually had an hour TV special documentary on PBS about the day they took the photo, "A Great day in Harlem"

  • @margaretsville - I've got that on DVD. It's not the best documentary that I've ever seen but, considering the subject matter, I love it. It really was a "great day" for almost everybody who was anybody in jazz to get together like that. Talk about wishing I could have been a fly on the wall...

  • this is cool stuff rob.

  • @CollectorOfMusic - Thanks!

  • could you do some featured artist vids sometime for me man? i'd love to see your Floyd,Zeppelin and any others you may prefer to show.i like those kind of vids,we kept MrHoffame busy for a couple of months a year and a half or so ago! over 1900 LP's,what a gorgeous number!

  • @EoLoVoX i really like the scanning electron microscopic pics,i'd really love to have a set of them done with mono and stereo examples to show the difference.those are clean grooves in the photos, that's what i'm talking about! cleanliness means an awful lot to me,some people think i'm a bit obsessive about it.and i suppose i am.

  • @dimebagdave77 - What I find really interesting about those SEM photos is the dirt that you CAN see in the grooves. Both photos were supposedly taken of brand new, freshly pressed, virgin vinyl grooves, and yet you can still see some dust particles in there.

  • @dimebagdave77 - I'd like to say "yes" without reservation, Dave, but I never seem to have the time to do as many videos as I would like. I've already decided that, although I enjoy watching responses, I just don't have the time to participate in threads. Also, the list of videos that I would LIKE to do (including featured artist vids) just about quadruples the time that I have to make them. I actually have a written list! Anyway, I won't say no, but I won't commit to anything either. Sorry!

  • @dimebagdave77 - By the way, I have something brewing that involves both Zeppelin and Floyd albums. I'm going to try something new in the video creation process for it, and I hope to make it happen some time this summer. I've got the entire Zeppelin catalog on vinyl, as well as Pink Floyd from Ummagumma onward.

  • That is an amazing looking music room very spacious and still plenty of room for other shelving units for further record collecting. I'm very happy for you and hope that you and you're family enjoy every single little moment that is spend in listening to music. And thank you for the v.i.p tour my friend

  • @Mr666skulls - You're welcome, and thank YOU for the kind words! Speaking of other shelving, I am hoping to build a fourth record cabinet this summer. I'm sure you'll be seeing a video about that project when I do. Thanks for watching.

  • Love the room, have really been thinking about one of those cleaning units, really want one i think in the future now..Love the background mix too..Cool zoom in's of the grooves! Fancy track lighting! Just love the room! This isn't a contest, just you showing you're room, the vinyl community isn't the kind of place for contests on music rooms..I think anyways..Thanks for showing!

  • @ROBERTyay - I appreciate the kind words, Robert. Thanks thanks so much for watching!

  • Nice tour video mate - subscribed! Good day :)

  • @vinylated - Thank you! Favor returned. Welcome to the family!

  • Always loved that "Great Day In Harlem" shot! Thanks for doing the tour! I LOVE tour videos!

  • @mrhoffame - Thanks for watching Mr. H. Sorry it took so long to get up here! As you can probably tell, I'm a little persnickety about stuff. Sometimes that really slows me down.

  • Very cool, man! I'm so envious. I like to be organized like that, too (but I'm not, at this point). Would be curious to know more about the headphones, what you use, and how good they sound. Beautiful room!!

  • @thetcha70 - Thanks man! The 'phones are Sennheiser HD555s. I just got them last year but, so far, I love them! I could ramble on about them but I'll send you a link in a private message instead. (YouTube won't let me post it it here.) I will say that I did a little bit of homework and "test drove" several models first. When I heard these, though, the decision was made.

  • I loved your room Rob. If I decide to music room my basement, I am going to model it after this setup. I will not duplicate it but I will definitely borrow some of your amazing ideas. The one big thing we have in common is your impeccable organization and neatness. One last thing, give yourself some credit because it is one of the better music rooms than I have ever seen. Top notch my friend.

Excellent video. thanks for sharing that, {the other} Rob/Boston

  • @Paneeks1960 - That's certainly high praise, Rob. Thank you. Regarding my organization, my wife says that I should have been a librarian! There just might be some undocumented OCD in there somewhere. I appreciate your kind words, sir.

  • That's an amazing room! Looks like a very comfortable place!

  • @stephan73 - Thank you. I love it down there, but I'm sure you're not surprised to hear that!

  • I could really use a record cleaner. Mostly due to an older house and shedding cats. There's cat hair/fur and dust everywhere. No matter how often you vacuum, there's always more. I absolutely *love* your room.

  • @MrPlatypus9 - We've only got one cat, but it's still amazing how much dust, fuzz, and hair gets on record albums. I have certainly gotten my money's worth from that record cleaning machine! Thanks for watching!

  • My wife wants me way-out back in my own cave...nice!

  • @robhaerr - Thanks!

  • Awesome! It looks like you have enough room in there to put up some more shelving.

  • @Kiwizig - Definitely. I hope to build a fourth cabinet this summer. Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome listening space. Very well laid out. I'm very jealous of that record cleaning machine. I'm very much looking forward to your video on your equipment set up. Great video!!

  • @beninski707 - Thank you very much. The record cleaner demo video is almost done. Haven't even shot the stereo video yet, though. Life keep getting in the way of having fun!

  • That's one heck of a man-cave. I'd love to have that kind of set-up :)

  • @maanvaarder1 - Thanks! It probably won't surprise you to hear that this is my favorite room in the house!

  • Thank you for sharing this video. It is an extremely nice room, and very inspiring. Congratz with all your work on it. You took your time to film it nicely with great comments, which makes it even more pleasant to look at. Also looking forward to see your video about the sound system, I'm a big fan of great systems. At the end that's what makes our purpose and love sound even better.. I guess the 2 monoblock (pre)amps and speakers already preview something great.

  • @Afteringboard - Amen to the idea that the delivery system should enhance the music we love so much! I consider myself a kind of "mid-range" audiophile, meaning that I haven't gotten so addicted to upgrading equipment that I spend more money on it than on the music itself. It's probably close to equal, though! Thanks for all your kind words.

  • Thanks for sharing the room, it's quite beautiful. I love seeing the record cleaning machine. It looks like a fantastic setup for listening.

  • @dereckvon - I feel really lucky that we were able to make this a reality, since it had been a dream for so long. It has definitely become my favorite room of the house, but I bet that doesn't surprise you! Record cleaning demo video should show up before too long.

  • @EoLoVoX That will be cool.

  • Really nice room man! Love the whole setup! Thanks for sharing

  • @MrFartboy79 - Thanks so much!

  • a beautiful music room! great chairs! love the shelves, need some myself.tired of stubbing my toes on old Peaches crates! similar to the one you have at 6:00.great VPI,looks brand new! i'm jealous of that thing! one of these days i'll do things right like you have.until then,i'll just keep them preserved.really enjoyed the tour, really nice looking turntable.my bookshelf turned into a box set storage area on top also!love the classic stereo cabinet.

  • @dimebagdave77 - Thanks for all your kind words. The only Peaches crate that has survived the years with me is one that holds 8-track tapes, of all things. I'd love to find an LP Peaches crate at a flea market or thrift store. Those are even cooler now than they were back in the day.

  • @EoLoVoX yeah man,i got lucky and spotted one full of old parts in a friends garage,to be truthful, the rest of my crates are of the milk variety! but i am proud of that one legit one! it's in surprisingly great shape considering where it was.would love to hear more details about the stereo later when you get the time!

  • amazing music room mate

  • @a4ndr3c - Thank you very much.

  • What a pleasant music room my friend. Thanks so much for sharing.

  • @glowing00cabbage - Thank you for watching. I've said this before, but I think it would be so cool to have a bunch of you folks over for a day-long listening party.

  • Wow. Very nice setup. I really liked the way you put your cleaning station together. :)

  • @merokodk - Thanks! A cleaning station video has been shot and I'm almost done editing it. "Soon come," as they say in Jamaica. Thanks for watching!

  • I love tours. This was awesome. I love how the floor lamps match the frames! The Genealogy of Pop was also really cool looking. YOu built your own cabinets!? wow

  • @dvdude30 - My dad and I have always shared a love of woodworking. It made for a nice project for us to do together, which was cool because we don't see a lot of each other these days. Trouble is, now, I need to build another one! Thanks for the comments.

  • awesome room!

  • @bigstar1000 - Thanks!

  • you need an HD camera my friend anyways very cool setup. i cant wait untill i get my own listening room. Martin Logan speakers?

  • @C815richard - I know what you mean about the HD camera. It's definitely on my short list of things to buy as soon as I can afford. I keep spending my money on these damn records though! Do you have any recommendations for a good one that won't involve a second mortgage?

The speakers are Mirage OM7s, by the way. I love 'em.

  • @EoLoVoX lol hmm well u could always get a dslr like the Canon T1i dslr which is both a camera and video recorder. it shoots video in 720p and 1080p HD for about $700 i use it and i love it! hd camcorders i know less about but you can get pretty decent one from Sony, JVC, Panasonic, & Samsung starting at about $300 . i know what you mean though i cant stop buying music either.

  • @C815richard - I've got a Minolta DSLR that may need to be replaced soon, so maybe that's the way I should go. The one I own does not do video and, since Minolta no longer exists as a company, I've been leaning toward a Canon replacement. Thanks for the advice.

  • @EoLoVoX yea i would highly recommend Canon Dslr's they shoot great photos and most of them shoot video in up to 1080p HD. lots of people on youtube and in the film business are using them for there videos and short films.

  • VERY nice music room there! I'm hoping to have a music room, myself, kinda like yours one day... Hopefully soon...:-)

  • @joshtowens - Just plan it out and stay determined! This whole thing was a bit of a pipe dream for me at one point, but I kept the idea on the front burner.

  • I now know where EoLoVoX comes from! That's quite a room, I don't have anything comparable to that now, but some day...

  • @mgfoster - Ah, you noticed that. I debated about whether or not I should give that away. I love the ambiguity in that screen name. Thanks for going on the tour with me!

  • wow very nice! can't wait to have something like that one day. thanks for the tour!

    Evan

  • @gilmour509 - Thanks Evan. It was just a dream for me for a long time, too. I feel lucky that I was eventually able to make it happen. Make a plan!

  • Oh man, that's a great room - thanks for showing us around.

  • @RecordsGlasgow - Thank you. I was about to ask where you had been lately but I just saw that you posted another video. I'll go check it out...

  • I AM SO JEALOUS ITS UNBELIEVABLE! Great room mate! You'r obviously VERY dedicated to your music collection. Thanks for posting pal. (:

  • @JosephODonnellMusic - Sorry! Definitely not posting to make people jealous. In truth, I'd love to have a bunch of you folks from the vinyl community over to play music and spend the day talking about it. I guess posting is as close as most of us will get, unfortunately. Still, thanks for watching and for the kind words!

  • Excellent room. I am so jealous of that. I noticed you have the book Alternative Rock by Dave Thompson. That book was a life changer for me.

  • @Blueecm - Thank you. I do like that book. I used to use that and the All Music Guide all the time. These days, though, so much is at our fingertips on the internet that, sadly, those books mostly just collect dust.

  • A man needs a cave, and this is a very fine cave indeed!

  • @sonicmainliner - Thanks! It's definitely my favorite room in the house!

  • Dont be like dick van dyke and trip over the autmn.lol love the music room.i love it when people decorate thier room.lot beter then looking at bare walls.i like to do that some day if i can get in a biger space..i think you and mrhoffame has the best.thnaks for sharing.

  • @musicman257 - Thank you for the kind words!

  • You are a sick sick sick sick man......

I've been "working on" my basement record room for 2 years now and still need to do a few things to get it right. Seems like a never ending quest!

    Enjoyed the vid.

  • @shawn0612 - Oh man, I know what you mean. I kept putting off making this video because there always seemed to be something else I wanted to do down there before I shot the footage. Thanks for watching!

  • wow!!!!, you have every reason to be so proud of your music room.... it's amazing!

thank you for sharing your space.... great vid :)

  • @TheArtistMaster - Thank you very much!

  • Great walkthrough. I love all the artwork on the walls. I'm looking forward to seeing the gear video.

  • @MrCdnAudiophile - Thanks! The record cleaner demo is almost done, but the video for the system hasn't even been shot yet. Life has a way of getting in the way of the fun stuff!
