A loss of tail rotor does not induce 'vortex ring' that is something else entirely... It is conceivable that that is what caused the high rate of descent and crash into the deck in the first place, however.
He was WAY too fast on approach.. These types of accidents are NOT UNCOMMON . My immediate and amature opinion is pilot error , with possible machine failure

I feel the tragedy here is all the armchair warriors and te media trying to crucify the pilot.
These crews and the pilots in particular need to push the limit.
In Nam half the dust offs would have failed if you flew by the book!
One can say well that is in action, but its a bit fucking late to start pushing the limit when your under fire.
Mark Bngley and Josh Porter died doing thier job.
