Oh so that's what the anesthetist was doing to me. I have a very ticklish back and I must say that getting an epidural was a challenge for me to not move.
@kanamechiddori - there is no evidence that epidurals cause lasting back pain. However it is well known that pregnancy does. Everyone blames the anaesthetist!
Thank God for the epidural!!! I have three kids with my first I didn't use anything how crazy was I lol!! With the last 2 got smart it was sooo much more easier...Did not feel any pain during delivery no problems down the line..
I had a natural birth without painkillers for my first child and an epidural with my second and to this day I have pain at the injection site in my spine. Obviously it could have been a lot worse, but it's a pain I have to live with daily. Think very carefully before you make your choice, it will alliviate pain but it does have risks too.
am pregnant in my seventh month and i heard how delivery is painful so am thinking of taking it! its not so common to take epidural here in europe but i want my delivery to be easy!! i heard there maybe complications that leads vacuum extraction of the baby!
that actually looks okay people keep telling me the needle is sooooooooo Massive its not that big at all plus they give you a different needle before hand so you dont even feel the pain of the edipual going in so all cool
I am going through surgery for my broked ankle, and I was planning to ask for an epidural, so I can watch the surgery live.... but after seeing this video, i am considering to not having it... I get chillll now...
at 01:08 i was like wow is that it??? then the BIG NEEDLE going into your spine came out of nowhere. child birth is SCAAAAARY but a woman's gotta do what a woman's gotta do
@ChantellaMusic You may be right...BUT..I honestly would try to go natural for as long as I could..He had to stick me twice b/c he hit the wrong spot! OUCH
I too am scared of needles and had an epidural with my first child and they had to poke me twice because something happened the first time. It is painful but doesn't last long. I would much rather have a few minutes of pain from the epidural then natural childbirth.
i didnt even feel it go in! i was too busy feeling contractions! trust me you will be screaming for it lmao its excellent,i could walk around 4 hrs after
I think I could handle natural or water childbirth now. but I was young when my kids were born. Was in labor with my first for 34 hours, i thought i was going to die, or, was wishing for death....Then...I had twins..i was induced and had an epi. Yes it hurts, but i dont think i could have lived through a 8.7 and 7.5 childbirth without it.
i got an epidural anesthesia when i has my cs deivery 3 years ago..my labor was induced and reached 36 hours but my baby didn't descend-5cm cannot have normal delivery..my kid now is very healthy and active and i have not suffered any pains due to epidural anesthesia..wonderful power of science given by God..
i got the epidural when i reached 4 cms. and it was wonderful. i felt the first stick from the local anesthetic. but afterwards nothing. and my anesthesiologist worked quick. and it was such relief. my baby delivered fine and neither of us had any side effects. im 8 months pregnant and definitely getting it done again.
Aaah...the miracles of science! I'm getting an epidural when I go into labor because I KNOW my body's pain tolerance and I know I won't be able to handle natural, no damn way!
@sahaja75 You are the reason this "beautiful planet" is ugly. I'm assuming you are a man, lol, only a shovanistic asshole would despise a woman for having assistance or relief during childbirth. Either a woman, or a man, keep your idiotic comments to yourself. You are the disgusting one.. Idiot :) :):)
@sahaja75 You're insane. My brother's girlfriend can't give birth naturally. It would kill her! If it wasn't for epidurals and C-sections, she wouldn't be able to have children at all. Sure, natural childbirth may be good for some women, but sometimes there must be intervention for the good of the mother and the baby.
This is why Im afraid of having a baby when I grow up. I used to say when I was little that I was adopting lol But now im not. When Im old enough I will definitaly go through this pain for my baby.
Um...of course I will be there for my baby...Why would yall be on here disrespecting me, and u totally have the wrong idea? If I wasn't gonna be there for my child I would never have gotten pregnant. I never said I would move into a bar, but some nights when his dad has him, I'm gonna go out...the whole bar thing is to relieve the 9 mnth stress I been going thru since I been pregnant...I dnt believe in the neglect thing, nor did I ever say I wasn't gonna be there, I resent those

@taylorswift091196 this makes me sick. just shut up. I can't wait to have sushi the moment my child is here! does that make me a bad person? Because I want to have something I couldn't while I was pregnant? Nope! The finger pointing has to stop.
@BookofJellyBeans02 Be careful when you get older. I got an epidural by a very qualified doctor. However I lost TOTAL CONTROL of my body movements...........started thrashing............and almost got paralyzed for life. It took 5 people to hold my body down (as I was bend backwards) Screaming DONT MOVE! Well guess what? It was all involuntary. Oh that and the getting catherized and the pain for 19 1/2 hrs and ..........well...I dont want to scare you.........
@nkfaithful my baby was born in aug of 09, and i said the same thing bout not gettin it. i got induce at 7 am and went wit da contration all day until 4 pm but i just couldnt do it nomore.. i had to get it even doe i tried to be strong my body was tired. so i end up gettin. and thank god it been almost 2years, i dnt have back aches or back problems.. but be strong cuz da contrations are the worse pain u can ever feel... good luck.
my first baby is due in august and this video has only confirmed that i could never in a million years have that needle put in my back!!! everyone says ill change my mind, but i figure women did it for years and years without it, so can i!!!
@nkfaithful: I have a fear of needles too. Your body and baby will know what to do when it's time. Just focus on the labor and know that pain=progress. Trust your body but know that pain med is an option. I didn't allow them to put in a catheter so I could use the restroom and walk around as I needed. It really helped with the labor. I've had 3 unmedicated births the last one being the hardest (he was 9lbs). Good luck!!
I thought the same I hate needles but when you are in pain- was told later that having my waters broken for me made the labour much more painful-you are happy to sit still while the needle is put in. I didn't feel the needle at all I just had an awful feeling it would be painful.
My first delivery, I had a very ideal epidural... yes, it did hurt- but it did the job it was supposed to do with no negative side effects. With my 2nd delivery, I received my epidural it was in the middle of VERY intense contractions and the anesthesiologist hit a blood vessel 2 times and we finally had success on the 3rd time- this experience was terrible! Luckily, it kicked in just in time for me to start pushing. I'm due with #3 in June, and no epidural for me this time.
@xxtasha10xx yeah but it's like 1 in 500,000 the pros defiantly out weigh the cons I'm due in nine weeks and I'll defiantly be having one of these :) x
@stiffupperlip4 If youre not a doctor then you shouldnt be giving out recomendations like that. Its all up to the mother and how they feel, not on how you feel.
I had an epidural with my daughter and I wouldnt have changed it. Mine didnt fully take but it helped enough with my back labor due to a back surgery enough to make it through. To whoever said women need to have GUTS to get through it some people its not because their weak but because they're prepared. I was a high risk for a c section and I wanted to be awake not knocked out because I hadn't had an epidural already in place.
I believe that natural birth is better. Pregnant women just need to have the GUTS to endure the labor pains. Just think that the pain is all WORTH IT! Goodluck to the pregnant moms and God Bless
If you can avoid an epidural I suggest that you do only because there can be complications. But it is not as frighting as it seems, with my first I had no choice the doctor made me get one because my body was not handling the pain so well as if I was going into shock. I was perfect candidate for the procedure did everything to a T when they asked me during the procedure and the doctor still put the needle in the wrong place and had to do it again. Both times I felt nothing over the contractions.
i had an epidural once for a back problem it was so so horrible and painful and scary been i was so aware then when i had my son i had a spinal which is very similar and trust me while your in labour its so not as scary or painful as your mind is else where put it this way and not to scare you its like having a needle during a car crash your not gonna notice it to much!
Heaven help me! I'm 5 months pregnant and petrified about giving birth. And the thought of an epidural scares me a hell of a lot more than labor pains! There's no way that that huge needle doesn't cause some degree of discomfort. Yikes! I've watched the videos of the procedure and heard people saying it's not all that bad, but I can't fathom it. I'm stuck - either I have to struggle through childbirth or build up enough guts to get an epidural. Man, I don't think I'll survive either way.
@carlamae69 you'll do just fine :) ur a woman & u were built 4 this.I had an epidural w/my first birth. Honestly the labor pain was so bad the small pinch that I felt while the epidural was being administered was completely bearable.my labor was induced which caused my pains to be much worse. Today several yrs. after having my baby I still have times when the epi spot on my back gets tender and I need a nice little massage. but the epidural certainly helped alot. congratulations by the way!
@MsLoyal12 thanks! I guess its just a matter of getting over that dreaded fear. Needles and pain, yikes! I've never had a tolerance for either. Maybe I'll give the epi a go, I still got some months to prepare myself :)
@carlamae69 I just had a baby, and let me assure you that the needle doesn't hurt half as much as those contractions do. Plus once they numb you (which works in about 5 seconds) you won't feel a thing! GOOD LUCK!
@carlamae69 I was the same way as you. I was scared to death of the epidural. In Lamaze class they had an anesthesiologist come in and do a little show and tell about the epidural. He let us see the needle and hold it. I didn't want to have any drugs that were going to make me vomit or make me loopy. Once I saw that needle I turned around to my husband and said "No way in hell am I doing that!"
Well when induced, I was miserable at 4cm's I barely felt the epidural because contractions killed!
epidural, no thank you. for me, the risks far outweigh the benefits.
besides I feel like my body needs to feel the baby moving down and when to push.
many times the epidural can lead to decreased oxygen/heart rate in the baby which can lead to fetal distress, which leads to a C-section. I want to keep it natural from the start.
alot of you natural birth people are great but dont understand alot of woman may have low pain tolerance and the pain could make u pass out! im saying if u think its beneficial for you as a woman do it... you wont feel needle when ur feeling the worst contractions of your life if u think u can handle it obviously natural is a better option but it depends on the size and position of ur baby so its an individual decision _17 weeks 6 days pregnant 1st baby_
Hi, I have two girls and never received an epidural. Just the thought of that needle was overwhelming for me. But if you are planning for natural birth, i recommend you do just that. Natural with no epidural. It hurts like hell but the very second the baby comes out, you feel good. I think epidural has a lot of after effects. I don't know personally but have 3 girlsfriends who all suffer from really bad back pain. I just think that sort of back pain could have been avoided. Good luck n take care
It helps heal the pain at that moment. But later in life lots of back aches in the same area where it was given. I guess is like every other medicine or procedure they always have some kind of side effects.
I had an epidural with my daughter back in March 2009...I didn't feel any pain while the guy was doing it. I'm glad I got it done...I had my baby and she was healthy! I can say my back has more aching than before, but if I work out frequently then it goes away. Exercise really helps! If I don't work out then my back would be in PAIN just bending over for like less than 5 mins.
I'm only barely 3 months and I am scared shitless about getting this epidural! I'm glad they numb the area before they give it, didn't know that. I thought they just stuck a huge needle in your back! This proceedure seems long, I hope I can manage it. But I'm still scared, this is my first child!!!
well my baby is due in may and i am scared of needles sooo just reading what everybody saying ease my mind about it..this is my firstt child....and the though of epidrual and that big ass needle scare me but sine they numb u first i can handle it
@mscutepie209 My wife, had our 3 sons, all with an epidural. YOU would never see the needle. You would be facing the other way. You would not feel it anyway. The anesthetic is injected into your skin before you get the Epidural. She told me she would not have had the kids, without the pain killer. Her choice. WE have 3 beautiful sons. If men were to have children instead of women, there would be a lot less kids on earth.
@mscutepie209 Hey, it's over now because you commented a year ago but if you want it but are scared of needles, I think it's worth the tiny pain. I mean not as painful as the procedure!
Watching this actually made me feel better. I thought they just stuck the large needle right in without numbing the area a bit. This doesn't look bad at all. Though either way I think it'd be worth it cuz I know its gonna really hurt. I've got a month left. Wish me luck, lol.
dont let anyone tell you that getting the epidural is wrong. My doc told me that if there is something to numb the pain of child birth. I had the epidural with all 3 of my babies..and i plan on getting it again with the 4th one due in march. If you are in enough pain, then the epidural doesnt hurt. But with the 1st baby and last baby i felt the epidural but i just kept thinking to myself, it will be over soon!! and i had my hubby there so it made things better for me..
Just watching the needle go inside your epidural space make me wanna run away. Took it twice ! you don't feel anything.....specially when you are already in so much pain !
It was absolutely pain free for me. I didn't feel a thing after I was numbed, and yes, your legs WILL feel like cement bricks. During delivery, the epidural worked so well for me, that I had trouble pushing, as I could no longer feel contractions or even the sensation of pushing. They stopped it, and I almost immediately felt everything. A few moments later, I had a son!
It DOES look like it hurts. Contractions hurt more. I had the epi when I was 4cms. They do numb you first which helps. You don't really feel it go in. I think I was too nervous to feel at that point. It definitely helps the pain. Your legs will feel like cement when it comes time to push. Also your oxygen level can decrease. That is a common side effect. I had to wear an oxygen mask a few times. Also, I had lingering numbness on my upper left thigh for a few weeks. It's not too bad, I promise!
@jpupa79 idk im due in febuary and i think im just gonna go natural cuz ive heard way to many horror stories about the epidural and everyone of my friends had one so i wanna be different and go natural so i know exactly what my body is doing
does the first needle actually numb the area so the patient doesnt feel the second needle? or do you still feel the needle going in your spine?? the thought frightens me.
Oh Hell no!

MsLoyal12 1 year ago
@MsLoyal12 thanks! I guess its just a matter of getting over that dreaded fear. Needles and pain, yikes! I've never had a tolerance for either. Maybe I'll give the epi a go, I still got some months to prepare myself :)
carlamae69 1 year ago
@carlamae69 I just had a baby, and let me assure you that the needle doesn't hurt half as much as those contractions do. Plus once they numb you (which works in about 5 seconds) you won't feel a thing! GOOD LUCK!
YOUNGJUBI1andOnly 1 year ago

I want to keep it natural from the start.

it makes me feel sick :(

alot of you natural birth people are great but dont understand alot of woman may have low pain tolerance and the pain could make u pass out! im saying if u think its beneficial for you as a woman do it... you wont feel needle when ur feeling the worst contractions of your life if u think u can handle it obviously natural is a better option but it depends on the size and position of ur baby so its an individual decision _17 weeks 6 days pregnant 1st baby_

Ardyia08 1 year ago

@mscutepie209 so im assuming you had ur baby yes?? lol what did you do cuz im due in febuary and i wanna go natural
stonerlette817 1 year ago

MegaCrackedEgg 6 months ago
wow this makes me feel so much better!!! i thought they just stick a huge needle in your back and then tell you to lay down on it!
joshisazombie 2 years ago 2
i dont knoe the feeling of having the epidural. i hve 2 kids but there all natural birth!!! no pain medicine involve.
ruffarhen 2 years ago
Watching this actually made me feel better. I thought they just stuck the large needle right in without numbing the area a bit. This doesn't look bad at all. Though either way I think it'd be worth it cuz I know its gonna really hurt. I've got a month left. Wish me luck, lol.

dont let anyone tell you that getting the epidural is wrong. My doc told me that if there is something to numb the pain of child birth. I had the epidural with all 3 of my babies..and i plan on getting it again with the 4th one due in march. If you are in enough pain, then the epidural doesnt hurt. But with the 1st baby and last baby i felt the epidural but i just kept thinking to myself, it will be over soon!! and i had my hubby there so it made things better for me..
missy8408 2 years ago
Just watching the needle go inside your epidural space make me wanna run away. Took it twice ! you don't feel anything.....specially when you are already in so much pain !
SUMNA1 2 years ago
It was absolutely pain free for me. I didn't feel a thing after I was numbed, and yes, your legs WILL feel like cement bricks. During delivery, the epidural worked so well for me, that I had trouble pushing, as I could no longer feel contractions or even the sensation of pushing. They stopped it, and I almost immediately felt everything. A few moments later, I had a son!
cneagles 2 years ago
It DOES look like it hurts. Contractions hurt more. I had the epi when I was 4cms. They do numb you first which helps. You don't really feel it go in. I think I was too nervous to feel at that point. It definitely helps the pain. Your legs will feel like cement when it comes time to push. Also your oxygen level can decrease. That is a common side effect. I had to wear an oxygen mask a few times. Also, I had lingering numbness on my upper left thigh for a few weeks. It's not too bad, I promise!

does the first needle actually numb the area so the patient doesnt feel the second needle? or do you still feel the needle going in your spine?? the thought frightens me.
cooki3crumble 2 years ago 2
Actually it does numb the area, I had it myself!

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and I wanna know how long do I wait before it's too late to get the epidural ?
PHiLOPHOBiCxx 2 years ago
I would recommend having it as soon as you feel that you can not take the pain anymore, and try not to postpone it.
It does help a lot, all what you would feel isthe presure effect from the baby's head but not pain at all, it is great!
Good luck to you.
