@NathanMantle Well the hit songs are only hits because of the publishing company backing it up with money--for radio time, advertising, chat shows etc. 50-50 is perfectly fine for any other genre of music but when your talking underground hip hop, and whats its turning into--the lyrics are about 95 percent--they're hundreds of beat makers and you can get a good beat very easily--but hardly any ppl who can put rhymes to it like a Tech N9ne or eminem
I bought some music off of Soundclick.but i dont have full rights to the music, but i wrote the song myself..what form would i have to fill out and how?
@tuffluvable If you bought music from Soundclick but don't have the full rights, then you can only copyright the lyrics to that song. If you are trying to gain money off of this song, the owner can sue you. Your copyright protects your lyrics from being stolen.
I just purchased Lillo Thomas' new CD; "Come And Get It". I like the hit single "What's Not To Love?" The CD is a winner. I have it on repeat in my BMW. It's good that Lillo is back.
I wrote a song, my producer said he gets 50 percent, because he put all the instruments in. I told him I gave him the melody,so I co-produced it. Does he get royalties more than me? or just his part of what he did.

the lyrics writer, at least in hip hop should get a ton more than the publisher/ beat maker (at least if its quality rap)

One dollar? I think it's 9 cents per song.
