  • can anyone find the abc afterschool special opening that was used around the late 80's into early 90's?

  • I wonder why they don't run these anymore? Of course its different now days. Back then, most of us got our channels from an antenna on the roof, and we only had maybe 5-10 channels to choose from.

  • "The Princess Diaries"

  • @softshu Absolutely. I just spent a week mourning my 80's childhood, lol.

  • Is sarah on crack?

  • Let's face it, if no one was smoking reefer, pregnant or dead in a car crash by the first commercial, it wasn't a good Afterschool Special.

  • Back in my day,the ABC Afterschool Specials would air Wednesdays after General Hospital on a weekly basis.

  • It's amazing how many eventual big screen actors such as Sarah Jessica Parker & River Phoenix had first been seen by most of us on these ABC Afterschool Specials.

  • @softshu I feel this way all the time!

  • Happen to have the ABC Afterschool Special opening for the early-mid 1990s?

  • Happen to have the ABC Afterschool Special opening for thet early-mid 1990s?

  • @softshu Yep, I sure do. The 1980's is an underappreciated era for TV, movies, music, culture, ect.

  • Btw: Original Air Date: 24 October 1984.Hope that helps,If no one else has told you.

  • @softshu I know exactly how you feel.I found a video on here from my childhood.I almost cried.Because I loved that show so much.

  • I loved these after school specials. I remember trying to rush through my homework so I could watch lol

  • I wish they bring this back. This would come on at like 3:00 PM in Chicago back in the day.

  • man i wish i had these on vhs....can u post the full program? just curious

  • @bertfreez It was posted on YouTube, but for legal reasons it was pulled due to copyright violations.

  • good times!

  • @softshu, I feel the same way.

  • @softshu I feel the exact same way.

  • @softshu i get that all the time. That's the only thing i like about the modern stuff; computers and the internet; you can use the new stuff just to get back to the old stuff.

  • @softshu I feel EXACTLY the way you do 100%!!!!

  • oh my GOSH I remember this one...SJP was always cool... :)

  • Everything was so much more colorful back then. I distinctly remember how people used to chew gumballs; there were machines all over the place!

  • I actualy remember the specials from the early to mid 90s. Happen to have the into the ABC Afterschool specials from around that time?

  • 1985 was a good year

  • even a fashionista in 1985

  • They need to put these on DVDS !

  • @hoho24 They did!Well,some of them!!!!!!

  • i used to enjoy these as a kid...one i remember the most was the one where helen hunt falls out a window after snorting cocaine...

  • Sarah Jessica Parker in an afterschool special.. doesn't get any better

  • I know they should encourage kids to be more active, but some of my best memories of childhood are watching my favorite shows! I am a tv baby.

  • Really loved watching, these afterschool specials as a kid. Wished that they, would make them, now that I have seven nephews, and nieces.

  • I think the V/O work is courtesy of Danny Dark.

  • What happened to the older ABC intro..that was the best

  • That's true. I would rarely watch these when I was a kid because I would play outside, watch syndicated cartoons (i.e., Tiny Toon Adventures), or do my homework. These specials WERE a good idea though.

  • Nope. Not Wayne Rogers.

  • I bet this is a good one.

  • Dude, you not the only one.You sum it up perfectly!

  • These things were so good. When I see something like this I wonder why can't they do stuff like this now? They really had a good thing.

  • Sarah Jessica Parker, Dang she was just a teen then.

  • I feel the same way.

  • Is Wayne Rogers in this one? Look in 0:04.

  • EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER! So they say, this was an ignorant thing to do especially now that TV will become in High Definition beginning in February of 2009. Kids today need to be in front of the TV watching shows like this for an hour prior to playing. Back then when we were kids, these programs made it feel though as if you were still in school watching these teachable programs. It's sad to say, now kids are interested in rap videos or who got the best of everything and fighting.

  • does anyone have the opening for the 90's after school specials?

  • this opening was from 1985 til 1990 or 91 rite?

  • dgendvil -- ratings for the afterschool specials began to decline in the mid-'90s and were gone by '96. Competition from video games, cable and the Internet made youth-oriented programming on daytime network TV a thing of the past. Networks argued that they lost money having to replace Oprah (ABC stations) or judge shows (CBS stations) with the specials. But they have a responsibility to show stuff like this. New generation misses out big time on many levels!

  • I totally agree with you.

  • "they have a responsibility to show stuff like this"

It's called "In the Public Interest." You get an amen from me also. Not putting things like the afterschool specials on the air is a dereliction of civic duty.

  • OMFG! THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I haven't seen this in 20 years!

  • Thank's for the 1985 opening theme for The ABC Afterschool Special because I love it better than the original theme from 1978-1985!

  • Where's the 1978-85 intro? I'd personally like to see that.

  • @palmercomm I've been looking for that intro myself.

  • What has happened to ABC Afterschool Specials & CBS Schoolbreak Special? How come they won't show these monthly anymore? Everybody misses those days.
