Go ahead, tell me eleven-year-old Joe Jackson, back home in Portsmouth UK, never heard this song growing up(or "Count me in"), and came up with "Steppin' out" all by his lonesome.
What memories of the 1960s this evokes. A decade of fabulous songs. I can remember myself riding in a 1965 Impala. 60s music..not like the rap music and junk of today.
This has got to be one of my favorite songs of 1966, a year that boasts so many great r&r tunes to begin with, Another fav of mine by this band is She's just my style..believe me when I tell you that I usse to get most sentimental over it. I sort of fallen(call it puppy love now), but I sort gotten off on a friend from the workplace. Besides those very attractive looks, it was the way she dressed, "She was just my style" & it was heard often when we we're riding around in that convertible.THX
Highbrow rock critics may have scoffed, but in the hands of studio wizards Snuff Garrett & Leon Russell, Gary Lewis & his Playboys scored a run of pop ear-candy hits in 1965 and '66 that many acts would have sold their souls for. "Green Grass" was and remains an irresistible two minutes of optimistic, spirit-lifting fun.
Yes Hal Blaine, the best drummer on the planet, and Leon Russell did the keys, and back up vocals, Snuff Garrett produced most of thier music, Gary played drums, I met Gary, his band is still the bomb, keep it movin Gary! (;
what a great song - summer 66 - gary lead vocals with ron hicklin - such sweet sliding guitars and a great drum beat behind - good God did it get much better??? if this song and band didnt pick you up and got you rocikin - you were probably dead!! thanks Gary!!!!
ahh...love this song..i had a duet with my classmate and we sang this song in one of our school programs in elementary...makes me feel young again...thanks for the clip...

What a perfect song. After 8 months without a temp above 80 today is it.
These years 60's were so perfect and innocent. Miss those days.

the playboys did most of this - the drummer was HAL BLAIN....this song put the Beatles off the charts in 66.....

Are you sure? I thought he played the drums on this one too.
