I do still have Dagger. He could live to be 25 so I hear. When we decided to get him, we planed for 25 years. So lets hope he is with us that long. My husband dreams of taking him on vacation in a big RV when we retire. LOL It would be great to have him with us that long. :)
i love your video, it shows how servals are so misunderstood, they are not the "dangerous" animal everyone makes them out to b e. my male is currently 10 months and is as sweet as can be, like your Dagger. He is a HUGE amount of time and effort but he is definitely worth every broken objects this far lol! good luck!
I live in nevada also and have never had a chance to play with one of these cats in person. I've been tempted to look into the investment of getting one but I plan to move out of state in a few years and It would be too painful leaving it behind :(
Aww too bad! Well thanks for the offer. I plan to move out of state in a couple years anyways to state/s where they are not legal which is sad. I will continue to dream though!
One of the few success stories that disprove the myth Servals can't make great pets. Admittingly, the vast majority of folks who do get them are in way over their heads. Most of that can be prevented with proper education and regulated requirements for working with them before actually getting one. I'd have 3 myself, but my state won't allow it. Will be moving soon. :) In the meantime I am having my hands filled with an F1 Savannah kitten (half Serval/half domestic cat).
He is the most difficult, and the most rewarding critter I have ever had. He requires more care and attention than you would think. Not that I mind any of it, but I can certainly see how people may think they are ready, and in the end realize they had no clue. Your F1 is very similar I would imagine, just a bit smaller. lol Good luck with him/her!!! How old is he/she? And what did you name him/her? :)
My F1 is name Obi. (not for 'Star Wars' but because it's an African name meaning 'Heart') Which he has plenty of and likes to steal from others. :) He is a high-maintenance fireball of humor, energy and cuteness. Even for F1s, more towards the wild side. But like you say, SO REWARDING. I have 3 clips of him on youtube at present, just click on my ID to access them. Take Care.
High maintenance is right!!! I always say that domestics have that "graceful" gene where servals and high generation savannas have the "go back and make sure you broke everything" gene. LOL But I would not have them any other way. If I wanted calm and relaxing I would have only domestics. LOL :)
That is one extroadinary looking animal. Very very sweet. And your cat likes him/her too! LOL! What kind of animal is that? Seems pretty exotic to me. I thought that kind of thing wasn't allowed. Obviously it is depending. We're not even allowed to own ferrets here in New York City. Thanks for posting that.
He is a serval. And there are many places now, including New York, where a lot of our rights to own exotic animals are being/have been taken away from us. I live in one of the last "free" states. We are currently legal, but who knows for how long. I don't know what I would do if I were told I could not have him any more. He is so much a part of our family that I think it would kill me. Anyway, thanks for your comment. I should put more video of him up. Maybe I will do that today. :)
What a majestic Serval! Lets see more of him! I'm bummed because California does not allow us to own Servals....so I'm sticking with my Bengals and Savannahs for now!
You will have to check your State, County and City laws to find out if you can have one. You can find any info on the internet. I know that there are at least a few places in MI where they are legal, but where in MI those places are, I do not know. He really is a great cat. He is the most attention needing critter I have ever seen and it takes a lot of work to make him a happy guy. But he is happy, and we love him as if he were one of our human family members. :)
LOL the domestic cat is doing a massage for the serval !!!

What state do you live in that allows you to have one as a pet? (nevermind if you aren't from the U.S.)
Karma45678 4 years ago
Nevada

Thanks. Do you know whether or not they are legal in Michigan? Sorry if I double-posted, my browser crapped out.
