@MrJacMac1986/RevMary Pernell Roberts was not the Trapper John of the film MASH...it was Elliot Gould who you might recognize as Ruben Tishken from the Oceans 11 - 13 films. Pernell Roberts was more known as the eldest Cartwright brother, Adam on the series Bonanza.

@H2R504 Actually, it's true that this version of the *character* of Trapper was meant to be the *movie* version of Trapper from MASH and not the TV version of MASH. That was never stated in the series but it was how it was explained to avoid a lawsuit from the producers of MASH the TV series.

Trapper John was a diferent actor on Mash...so like from 1950-80 he got bald. Pernall is deceased but the original actor- trapper John is on FOX news and FOX Business channel, smoart stock market guy.

It's morning, I'm just a kid, I'm over my grandma's house and there's no school because it's summer vacation and this comes on along with so many, many other shows, commericials that I'll never forget as a kid. Just last week I saw Pernell Roberts in the role of a gunfighter coming back to claim his estranged wife and son on "Gunsmoke". Now he's a doctor in a big city hospital!!! Next think you know he'll probably be the oldest son of a wealthy Nevada rancher. LOL

@Kelski1998 Because Trapper John M.D.'s character in this drama series is based more on the MASH movie than the TV series and set in the then modern day,it's technically not a spin-off.Mind you,they did show footage of when Trapper was reminiscing about his younger days at the 4077th from the TV MASH.
