  • How did those autolites work out for your Jeep?

  • I wanted to see you get out #8... the one buried under the firewall on the passenger side. #7 is bad, but as far as I can tell, #8 requires a trained double jointed pygmy monkey with special tools...

  • Take them autolites back and get champions.Champions are the best for Chrysler products.Don't ever install Bosch in a Chrysler product call run like crap and a missfire code will appear.I see more problems with Bosch plugs

  • @wafrederick You're right! Bosch sucks (my poor chrysler 300M could say it) : (

  • Do you have to torgue down the plugs or just make them snug..?

  • I kept my old plugs for next Halloween......Happy Halloween kids....hahah used plugs....fun fun....

  • Wondering if the "die electric grease" goes on top of the plug, where it goes to that coil pack?

Also do you know what torque the plugs should be in at? foot lbs?

  • Nice video. I had a manifold leak, on my 05 4.7,as well. It was the driver side. I went ahead and got the hardware for the whole side. There are a couple different types of bolts for this. Once I got manifold off, I found that the back two bolts were sheared off. Fortunately I was able to get a pair of vice grips around the heads, and didn't need a back out kit to get them off. It took the better part of a day to get everything off, and back on again. The worse part was getting to the manifold!

  • I want to ask a question.. Is it important to change the spark plugs??? Or not??

  • @Radhyfication Just imagine wearing the same pair of shoes for 10 years every day. That's about the best comparison I can think of. It definitely will help your fuel economy and keep that engine running smooth...

  • @jbrunsonjr

You're right..But can you tell me when I have to change the spark plugs??

Aftet two years or three years??

And thank you for helping me ..My appreciate...

  • @dmera420 what sound clued you toward the exhaust manifold leak?

  • @SouthBay4D - It's not too pronounced in the video, but there is a definite sound of exhaust leaking from one or two cylinders in person, especially from the driver's seat. At some point I'll fix it and show it on ye ol youtube...

  • 2 Things. (1) did you gap the old plugs before you gaped them now? They don't come pre gaped... Every engine requires a diffrent gap. (2) The fact that the gap was 50% more then it recommends is probably a good thing. A larger gap is generaly a good thing becuase it alows a bigger spark, unless it's too much of a gap then there wont be any spark.

  • wish you showed us how you got to the back ones

  • @Ar15snhappy Sorry about that - it ended up taking a mix of extensions and u joints to get them out, especially the passenger side rear. What a pain!

  • great tutorial dude. Should really help people that don't know how to do this. This is how jeeps should be treated! worked on by their owners! great job

  • so are the autolite spark plugs good?

  • i think u have an exhaust manifold leak

  • @dmera420 - Yup, I definitely do, just been too lazy to fix it. I have all the stuff, now I just have to get out there and do it! : )

  • Hi is this the same for an 2002 4.7l V8 engine? I need to change my plugs but i cant find how to?

    thx..

  • I have never worked on the earlier version, but it should be very similar. Go over to the forums on the website JeepsUnlimited and ask there in the WJ channel, and someone should be able to tell you definitely....

    Jack

  • wow did you have like a massive air leak when you started it up after changing the plugs? It sound like it on camera. Like a giant sucking sound. You can hear it best where you turn off the engine.

  • Nah, it is just my crappy little camera that I use. You can hear the intake sucking a little, but nothing out of the norm, though.

  • Hey man....thank you SO much for this vid. I just got done changing out the plugs on my 06 Jeep Grand Cherokee thanks to the help of this video (except mine is the V6 4x4). I bought the same or similar tools you used and made it a TON easier. The flex ratchet is ESSENTIAL to get the nuts off of the coil packs in the back. I appreciate the work that went into this series. 5 STARS!!!!

  • Anytime - I am just glad that someone actualy found these videos helpful! I just remember doing this stuff for the first time myself and how scared I was -and then after doing them, realizing how easy it was. Then my next thought was, man I pay someone how much to do that??? So are you in Knox, TN? Just wondering cause I lived there for 7 years....

    Jack

  • Yeah I completely agree. I figure if I can do the work myself instead of getting hosed by a repair shop, then why not?!? Definitely a sense of fulfillment. Yes, I live in Knoxville, TN. Been here almost 2 years for work but will likely relocate in the next 4-5 months. One tip about the videos, remind people to plug the MAF (mass airflow) sensor back in once the intake is reassembled. I forgot that last step and threw a CEL. Plugged it back in and it's gone. Thanks!

  • With the increased gap on the old plugs, much more current is needed to jump the gap. This is what ruins a lot of coil on plug units, in fact any sort of ignition system. When a coil fails, folks should go one step ahead and check the gaps on the plugs, and the shops equipped with the latest tools can check secondary voltage to the plugs as well. Too much means the coils are being overworked, and insulation starts to break down in them. Nice movie here, informative as always, sweet!

  • liked your vid...very informative...was it difficult getting the rear spark plugs out? i have a 00 grand with the 4.7 in it.

  • Somewhat, that is why I showed that wrench - that wrench made it a breeze to get that top nut off the coil pack. Glad you liked it and that it helped you!

  • Probably the best thing to do - my MPG has go up by two since I did it. Amazing what a little tlc on an engine will do! Cool bike, by the way!!

  • I was drinkin a chocolate milkie too when I watched your vid - yummage!

nice tutorial on the plugs too.

On some cars, you almost have to pull the engine to get at the dang plugs, too much junk in the way.

  • Yeah, that is what I was expecting, but it actually ended up being fairly easy. The hardest one to reach was on cylinder #8....

  • My 99 Ford Expe started running rough and the check engine light came on. Took it to auto zone as they will hook up their ODB2 tester and print the trouble codes for free. 2 codes came up, #4 cylinder spark plug and MAF sensor showed it was running rich. That same spark plug blew before and it's a ***** to change in the very back. After changing it though it didn't help. The coil pack on top of the spark plug was the culprit.
