The darkness in this world is so great that what little flicker I had left is now akin to Willie Nelson's dying ember in Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain.
I wish I had my horses, then I could drink whiskey, get frisky, ride off into the sunset singing The Rodeo Song. I could be back in somebody's arms, and hope that I don't get bucked off,
This song is almost written for me ! I was young good looking and had a couple of beautiful women who loved me who adored me and I was a pathetic waster , now am older am alone and searching for lost diamonds on a mountain of glass. Just wanna say am sorry please god another chance somewhere sonmeday.
haha I heard this song around the same time I used the "L" word with my GF and actually meant it. Kind of a cheesy sentiment, but it always brings me back to some very happy times. Thanks Boss
I've just heard this song for the first time, and yet again i'm blown away by this man's talent to connect with my life through his songs. Springsteen sings from the heart through his experiences in life. Class act!
warflynn, thanks for your reply. You obviously have great taste in music. Springsteen is THE BOSS. I don't know of a better live act than Bruce today. Saw him in Toronto (where I am from) at the ACC a few times and he rocks the house at the age of 60! Go Bruuuuuuuuuuce!
so sad to see danny and think of his passing i saw Bruce in Glasgow last year and couldnt stop thinking of him God bless and thank you for a wonderful career
Bruce is such an amazing and inspired poet. He has been documenting the human condition from that first video of him singing Growing Up, at Max's Kansas City at the age of 21, to this superb song of such simplicity & poignancy, all those years later. His voice has even more intensity, more urgency and passion, and more humanity than ever before.
I never knew a musician could continue to grow this much through the years, and be this great. I'd buy a leather jacket wholesale from him anytime.
SuzzyStohelit, so so sorry to hear about your loss. Stevie Nicks wrote a great song for Joe Walsh(from the Eagles) who's daughter was killed at the tender age of 3 in a car accident. The song is titled "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You." Beautiful song, check it out and let me know your thoughts. Take care.
hardnessoffhisworld, you said it so well. Is there anyone more inspiring than Bruce? I really don't think so. The Boss is alive in every song. If you have seen him LIVE you know exactly what I mean. Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce.
Oh you should have seen him sing this in Cleveland 2 nights ago. He got down on his knees and was sayng to the men in the audience HAVE YOU EVER BEEN IN LOVE have you EVER been in LOVE where it hurts and you want her soooo bad" He was on his knees while singing this song. There were shivers up and down my spine. It was one of the BEST ALL TIME songs ever perfomed LIVE. You had to be in a cave not to feel ripped apart while he was singing it. Amazing
isurvay2, you can buy the DVD called BLOOD BROTHERS - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. It was produced by THRILL HILL PRODUCTIONS. I'm sure you local record store should have it or be able to order it for you. It's pretty awesome. I've had it since 2001.
Back in your arms again says it all... how your heart can ache for someone you need more than anything, how everyday chores are made fun when she's on your mind, how you smile when you think of her every hour of the day.and how you count the days till you can see her again.. that's special, that's love, that's what iv got and i feel lifted even to say i know her she's just gr8 my girl my endless love 4 ever ........ she's just about as great as it gets...
I watch this one a lot too) because he sings straight to the top I do believe ... he carries a heavy load, but he gives it away if he can ... a normal but extremely talented guy
this was in a special i saw in the nineties does anyone have the entire tape? can you tell me the name of the special? I saw on a disney channel i think in 98
When I worked for MTV there were so many perks most "Stars" got - so the joke about the leather jackets struck me as a pfssst to them, he is very real in this video one of the reasons I love it so
Is Bruce showing us what he has to go through to get out there and sing his heart out for us? After watching this many, many times it seems as if the "perks and the jerks" are making him sweat blood~
I admire him for letting us in with the reality shots, along with the comic relief, and .... humor he sends.
SUZZY,I'm SO SORRY for your loss. I hope at this trying time you can find as much comfort in BRUCE'S music,as I have in the past.I PRAY FOR YOU,GL and GOD BLESS
Thank you so much sadie, how very kind of you to comment here and I am sorry for waiting so long
The first verse is exactly how I feel, even some of Bruces comments remind me of my 20 yr old son who was killed in a car crash- drunk driver killed him
Im sorry to hear about your son....the feeling of helplessness when you lose someone so close to you is a terrible feeling, this song feels so inspirational and passionate to me....it brings back some tough memories but also some fantastic ones. I truely hope you find peace. joe.
As to actual work, according to Time Magazine, Springsteen labored for a few weeks at age 18 as a gardener. And that was it. By the early '70s, he had left his leafy death trap behind and was busily reinventing himself as a Dylanesque folk singer/songwriter in Greenwich Village.

@CrazyGranda This is an Alternative first verse) Which makes it special to me
In my dream my love was lost, I lived by luck and faith.
I carried you inside of me, and prayed it wouldn't be to late.
Now I'm standin' on this empty road, where nothin' moves but the wind...
This is exactly how I felt when my young son was killed by a drunk driver in horrific car crash
I still stand by that empty road sometimes and I believe I always will.
