He made a rookie error there. He stayed standing on the breaks. He should have released them and he would have had a better chance of recovering. Even Michael knows this himself and it is what he usually does, so why he didn't here is a mysterey!

@CS7793 proabably he realised if he tries to corec the car maybe he wouldnt be succesfull in this situation and he preffered to hit the wall with a minimal damage - the front wing.

If you stay on the brakes you will largely maintain your line. If the car swapped ends trying to correct that he'd have come off with much more damage. I'd have done the same. Already looked like he had wheel damage too...
