oh Scotland what a wonderful place!!!! I was in edimburg only for 2 days and a half and fell in love of the city!!! my souvenir of course a book of robert burns poems....
Tonight is Burns Night. I have had my haggis, my neaps and my tatties (and doesn't a drop of scotch poured on improve the flavour of haggis?) and my supplementary beverage.
Yesterday, at the funeral of my Scottish friend Bill Mitchell, I heard this tune for the first time. It was one of the best services I've been to (and attending funerals is everyone's retirement hobby until one becomes the main attraction) but this track, having vocals, would have made it even better.
Thanks for uploading this version, which reflects the construction from Burns' era. The substitution of the tune from "Can ye labour lea" by George Thomson is of a later date.
it was a traditional song that Burns altered some of the lines -making it more modern and possibly giving it more understanding - and his fame brought new new light to its meaning.
An excellent poem full of the vitality of friendship. Worth keeping up the tradition. Thank you for your explanations. Happy 2010 and may your pint-stowp always be brimming over.
this is from me to all those no longer with us whom we have loved.Always in my heart Teresa and for me Roberto Clemente ..Dad and all the others.I still miss you.

Yes, after looking into the song before using part of the chorus in my own new single release - that Burns was not the original creator of Auld Lang Syne - but without him I doubt we'd have this wonderful old song...
@nederland4045 He may have borrowed some of the lyrics from James Watson and part of the tune from Albert Laighton others, but the song as it is was compossed by him.
I was wondering who sings this version?

It wasn't written by Burns, he wrote it down, but the lyrics aren't his.

English accent is too obvious. A Scots song has to be sung by a Scot.

Unless of course it has been adopted by the whole English speaking world as its hymn of New Year, rememberance and farewell.
