Don't know if you ever traveled.
Where you can or can't go depends on the treaties between countries.
Obviously it wasn't allowed to leave the country for one that was considered an enemy.
Today try to leave Georgia (the country) for Abkhazia and you get your ass shot or best case shoved into a Georgian prison for example.

In the REAL Afghan Russia war, USSR got OWNED by Afghans.
I'm not an Afghan but I'm with the truth, in the end you can say all the crap you want but you were the filth that washed off the lands of Afghanistan when all was said and done.
And the amusing part is it was USSR who waged the war.

Afghanistan would have been a better place if the Russians won. Check out what that government was doing in terms of reforms; it was turning a backwards, violent feudal state into a modern social state, rather than the religious fascist state that it turned into post the war.

That is true. The Afghans, sorely needed a dose of secular Western Civilization, and economic modernization. A Soviet victory would have given the Afghans that. Of course, when, for inexplicable reasons, the Soviet Union itself collapsed, the war in Afghanistan was doomed. Afghanistan was left to the mercy of superstitious religious mystics, whose influence it still hasn't shaken.

When I was a teenager I used to read stories about USSR chopper pilots and special forces in Afganistan - they had plenty of them in "Sovetskij vojn", "Aviacija and Kosmonavtika". In those stories they used to call them that, just like the legendary IL-2. The name "Krokodil" doesn't evoke any memmories. Sorry.
