@ everyone except pikhoofd, I seriously suggest you all go listen to all original KC records, *not least of all their first*.
He does know what he's talking about.
And yes, this version is wonderful, I enjoyed it myself -even the sloppily interpreted scat-run mid section (I personally think it sounds kinda cool anyway), of which it takes a somewhat more focused and committed level of technical musicianship than few other than Fripp and his consorts are wont to execute smoothly.
this is a great metal band & a brilliant cover if you can't see that then what's the point taking anything you have to say seriously and voivod...are you serious, get that crap outta here
@evaohone Shining is great, regardless of what genre they choose to operate in. Their first two albums were great jazz records in the John Coltrane tradition (loosely termed). Since then it has just exploded! But, I think Jørgen should refrain from playing the guitar and concentrate on sax, as he is so much more exiting to listen to on that instrument IMO. The groups other guitarist can manage just fine on his own.
In the studio version on the record "Blackjazz" its Grutle Kjellson from Enslaved who does the vocals on this one. Pure metal vokals though, not clean like this. That version might be more unique, and more "Shining", but I think I actually like this one better. An awesome cover!
Great stuff starting at 2:00 it actually reminds me of a mighty Colosseum with Chris Farlowe, Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Dave Greenslade, that was the band, that was the music.
i really didnt think that was very good. whats with the wierd sax vibrato. the singing wasn't great in the original, but it sounds liking he's almost joking in this cover... giles was good, but KK did it better with bruford.
I think he's playing the slow, heavy stuff on purpose.. If you look up some of Shinings other songs you'll see he has no problems playing "insane fills" etc :p
Anyone gonna be in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 20th, 2008? You gotta go check-out the King Crimson tribute show by The Great Deceivers @ club SPACELAND!!!!!!!!!

What's the matter at the end? Seems they didn't like their performing, or as if they were asking themselves: Did we play that?

How can anyone who knows anything about King Crimson, or anything about music for that matter, think this is anything but awesome?
halcyonkayak 11 months ago
That is the most offensive, dirty, discordant, cacophonus piece of shit rendition I have ever heard.
And I love every little bit of it.

@Innerspace100 I agree, but you really can't complain with the type of music Shining has put out lately, its still fucking great.
DesecrationSmile52 9 months ago
@DesecrationSmile52 It's not a complaint, my good fellow. I just stated my opinion, that's all. :-)
Innerspace100 9 months ago
They tried to hide their lack of skills by playing the part at 3:44 extra sloppy. They failed however.
pikhoofd1234 1 year ago
@pikhoofd1234 There is beauty in noise. Especially in a song like this.
Also, you obvioiusly haven't heard their different music, like Fisheye. Check out the guitar, synth, tenor sax solo.
