Hello Dr. A,i just been diagnosed with sleep apnea will I need to wait 3 months until I received my surgery due to the adjustment process to the machine?
@thickmadame1477 Not necessarily. Some people who recently get diagnosed with sleep apnea don't wait and look for a solution right away in weight loss surgery. It is important for your surgeon and anesthesiologist to know about this condition prior to surgery. Best of luck!
Dear Doctor Alvarez, could you please tell me how common is when gastrectomy patient suffers from esophageal spasm. My neighbor went through the precedure, and now she this spasm, she can not take a deep breath, she not yawn, she can not even laugh, because her diaphragm, right under her left breast, hurts like a stabbing pain, like a pinched nerve, or pulled muscle. her doctor said it was esophageal spasm and prescribed med to put under the tounge. she can not lay down in any position, it hurts
@naira43055 This is not common at all. I would think it is related to the technique used for the surgery. It is important to know how they performed the sleeve since that is the key to avoiding these kind of issues. Hope this helps.
Dr, Alvarez, I don't know how to twitter. My question is; I seem to have constant indigestion or heartburn, I have still been taking the Proton Pump you prescribed and sent home, is there something else I can take to help with this constant discomfort? I am three weeks out. Thanks, Karen T.
@karenmichelle67 Hey Karen. Yes you can use several things for the heartburn. This should go away with time though. You can get Gaviscon chewable tablets (OTC). They work good. Be sure to take your proton pump inhibitor too! Keep me posted. Thanks for touching base.
