Actually, a buddy of mine has an srt-8 300. We clearly beat an ls1 trans am the other day. He had also beat it with his srt-4 previously. The srt-4 had a lot of work done to it but it spanked the ls1. His srt-8 has an intake and tune and won. Granted not by as much but he stil beat it. The ls1's are quick but there are faster cars out there.
The new Charger is a race car, and so is the Magnum, Challenger, Chrystler 300 (only when equipped with the 6.1L V8 Hemi). Sadly, they're only straight-line race cars. They couldn't handle a freeway onramp at over 50mph without fishtailing.
what about the 68 Barracuda and Dart Gt RH Hemi? 520hp there were only 50 each but they are actually considered the fastest production muscle car, and top end wise you have to be a 69 Daytona or 70 Superbird. Theres a reason why the cars are worth more that half a million.
A '70 Buick GS Stage II 455 is the quickest and baddest muscle car ever from that era with the '70 Chevelle SS454 LS6 right there with it. Stock 350/300 SS Chevelles have raped 426 hemis on the street for forty years now. Those big winged ugly mopars go for so much because people want to own the ugliest cars ever made and there aren't that many of those super ugly big winged mopars that survived the crusher. To ScarletHawty: The Hemi 6.1 (NOt the shitty 5.7) is virutally the SAMe as the old 426. The only difference is the ft/lbs. of torque. The new 6.1 has 425 HP with 420 ft/lbs of torque. The OLD 426 has 425 HP with 490 ft/lbs of torque. Not a noticable difference in performance there. And the top end of the new Charger SRT8 is better than the old 74 Charger.
ALL muscle car engines were underrated for insurance reasons 426 hemis mad over 500 hp stock and a stock one bored .060 over makes 829 hp they dont build cars like they used to

The chambers are basically hemispherical with extra material added to reduce combustion chamber volume, raise compression, etc. True hemispherical combustion chambers wouldn't be very valuable nowadays.

its only a family car....for extreme families. in my mind, the charger is the best car on the road right now for its price. mustang is smaller and lighter, but has a pretty average engine, camaro falls in the same category as a mustang, vipers are way to expensive, vettes are way to expensive, challenger will be to expensive, that leaves the charger, sittin cozy in the middle with its 390 + horsepower hemi, so you can drive the kids to school in style. nothing compares to that awesomeness.
4 all of u that dont know an srt8 weight 4200 pounds, and a "HEMI" is a "HEMI", thats what some stupid people dont understand, the first HEMIS in the late 60's are exacly the same as the ones now, just improved, the piston isint shaped as a HEMI only the head.
I drive a new "Hemi" Charger and they are NOT the same, physically, the Heads are NOT Hemispherical, they are actually pentagonal. However, they are the same in the original sense of creating a Hemispherical engine, it's more efficient and better at not losing power in the whole scheme of things. The only thing the new Hemi has with the old one physically, however, is that it has 1 horsepower per cubic inch of displacement. 345 ci = 345 hp
The camaro is lighter than the trans am, especially the SS. The trans am was made with more automatic features...its more of a cruising car, rather than a drag car. The SS weighs about 3300 stock.

I can hardly believe a stock superbee ran 12's. The Hemi Chargers and 454 Chevelles ran 13's and they were considered some of the quickest muscle cars. It's funny you say an STi with radials. ALL cars today have radials. They don't put polyesters on factory cars anymore. But if you are referring to drags, I doubt it will make the STi significantly quicker since it is AWD. It will benefit the Bee though.
roadrunners ran 12s back then superbee is pretty much the same thing. I think they tested them with 4.10 gears though I belive the charger had 3.55's or something along those lines. with modern radial tires most big block muscle cars are deep in the 12's. factory chevelle ss with a 454 (ls5) ran high 12's at the track with street radials not drag radials and was completley stock. now imagine a Ls6.

If that Charger did weigh the same as the new GTOs the GTO would kill it, because you have to remember the SRT8 has a 6.1 liter engine and the Camaro Z28/SS has a 5.7, but the GTO and the Corvette Z06 has a 6.0 or 6.1 liter engine also

The chambers are basically hemispherical with extra material added to reduce combustion chamber volume, raise compression, etc. True hemispherical combustion chambers wouldn't be very valuable nowadays.

camaro ftwmfw. nah, i love mopar, i do. i just cant afford a mopar muscle car. not to mention, a charger is a POS now. dad has a REAL charger, the 69 440 4bbl..wish it was king kong, but its not. anyway, the new challenger looks nice, if they can give it IRS + less weight it will be a sexy car. id take that over the new camaro, cuz it just looks nicer.
id take a z06, zR1 over ALL tho.

The first Hemis actually came out in the mid to late fifties and the 392 Hemi is probably the best all around horsepower making engine you can find, whether its pump gas or alcohol. They were rated with 425hp in 1957.

its only a family car....for extreme families. in my mind, the charger is the best car on the road right now for its price. mustang is smaller and lighter, but has a pretty average engine, camaro falls in the same category as a mustang, vipers are way to expensive, vettes are way to expensive, challenger will be to expensive, that leaves the charger, sittin cozy in the middle with its 390 + horsepower hemi, so you can drive the kids to school in style. nothing compares to that awesomeness.

4 all of u that dont know an srt8 weight 4200 pounds, and a "HEMI" is a "HEMI", thats what some stupid people dont understand, the first HEMIS in the late 60's are exacly the same as the ones now, just improved, the piston isint shaped as a HEMI only the head.

I drive a new "Hemi" Charger and they are NOT the same, physically, the Heads are NOT Hemispherical, they are actually pentagonal. However, they are the same in the original sense of creating a Hemispherical engine, it's more efficient and better at not losing power in the whole scheme of things. The only thing the new Hemi has with the old one physically, however, is that it has 1 horsepower per cubic inch of displacement. 345 ci = 345 hp

The LS1 engines actually make 345hp, and close to 300 at the wheels. GM under-rated the f-bodies. The Charger is a heavy beast with 80hp more.

The camaro is lighter than the trans am, especially the SS. The trans am was made with more automatic features...its more of a cruising car, rather than a drag car. The SS weighs about 3300 stock.

I can hardly believe a stock superbee ran 12's. The Hemi Chargers and 454 Chevelles ran 13's and they were considered some of the quickest muscle cars. It's funny you say an STi with radials. ALL cars today have radials. They don't put polyesters on factory cars anymore. But if you are referring to drags, I doubt it will make the STi significantly quicker since it is AWD. It will benefit the Bee though.

roadrunners ran 12s back then superbee is pretty much the same thing. I think they tested them with 4.10 gears though I belive the charger had 3.55's or something along those lines. with modern radial tires most big block muscle cars are deep in the 12's. factory chevelle ss with a 454 (ls5) ran high 12's at the track with street radials not drag radials and was completley stock. now imagine a Ls6.

He did say with street radials, big difference from the bias belted they came with. I would believe low 13's on radials from an ls5. We've got an ls5 and an ls6 chevelle and an ls6 el camino and 3 L78 cars. So I would hope I have a good idea lol

Charger is 5.0 seconds flat. and u guys got to think its a 4 door. Thats a shit load of extra weight to move. and after all the looking I did for the camaro SS I only found 5.1 which is basically no difference but the charger does weigh a shit load more.

If that Charger did weigh the same as the new GTOs the GTO would kill it, because you have to remember the SRT8 has a 6.1 liter engine and the Camaro Z28/SS has a 5.7, but the GTO and the Corvette Z06 has a 6.0 or 6.1 liter engine also

uh, no. the heads are what's called 'semi-hemi'. Not precisely the chamber of yore by any means. Look up drawings if you don't believe. But I don't agree that they're 'dogs', because they're simply not. Anyone in their right mind would know that getting two tons up to speed isn't quite the same as blowing a feather around. Mustangs...well, there are just so many mustangs. Japanese cars? I hate the rice burner civics and such, so dodge looks best to me.
