@soxfan0408 "The reason I think we should have a public option is that government health care's main concern is not making a profit." THAT IS EXACTLY MY POINT ! - Nothing in government has a profit motive. Social security - medicare - medicaid. It is why we have a $14,500,000,000,000.00 DEFICIT. Because spending means NOTHING to Washington. Obamacare is created to make it more expensive for business to cover employees - forcing them to cut coverage - creating more people dependent on gov.
@MetalDetroit Social security has a surplus. The reason it has been threatened is because the Bush administration used it two fund two wars (the real spending problems). We would not need Medicare and Medicaid if we had a public option. By the way most government hand outs go to corporations not the poor. The bottom 50% control 2.5% of the wealth and are being blamed for policies they had no control over.
@soxfan0408 Just curious - we have spent TRILLIONS fighting poverty in this country. yes - people fall on hard times.....but at WHAT POINT does personal responsibility come in - in your view. Is it the rich peoples fault because some woman has 3 kids by three fathers by the time this is 22 ?
@MetalDetroit we are surprised when students in poor areas do worse than the rich students whose schools are funded way better. As i made in my previous point the majority of government hand outs go to the corporations, who have done an awful job of job creation. You also set up an argument based on a vast generalization. What Hatch and republicants don't want to admit is that there is already a large bureaucracy between doctor and patient, it's the insurance industry. Given a choice would you prefer a government bureaucrat who will err on the side of the best healthcare or an insurance company that is going to deny coverage and err on the side of maximizing profit?
Senator Bernie Sanders is a much better senator. He always looks after working people. His arguments are better. Hatch is confusing. It is hard to figure him out.
Private healthcare insurance system works well for insurance executives and Wall St who benefit enormously from this system.
Some argue private insurance only has 2 to 5% profit margin -- well, that is after the insurers spend first billions on their executives, on financial transactions with Wall St, on marketing expenses (on media), and on insurance bureaucrats. That's why they are against this reform.
People need to remember that both of these guys are bullshit artists. Medicare runs "cheap" (if you can call it that) because it screws doctors. Health insurance costs a lot because it can, they've consolidated and used their power in government to make it so. Neither side is "right." What we need is to just get government entirely out of the game altogether. Add some competition to the market (instead of the pretend competition we have now) and things will change.
@PHenry500 Bernie Sanders is a "bullshit artist"! You obviously know nothing about the man. The man has served as an independent for nearly 20 years. You don't get elected over and over without the backing of a major party if you're a bullshit artist.

But you just said said no one would like it so then why would it be unfair??? Unlimited funds? So you want someone who takes care of our health care to have LIMITED funds so if my costs are too expensive they don't have to pay??? That's number one... number two is that it's just not true..... even their lies are full of shit!
Big time smackdown by Bernie!! Hatch just had to keep repeating meaningless "big government" talking points especially after Bernie "got him" on the Veteran's Administration discussion. Go Bernie!!
other countries don't do better than us in health care outcomes.. that's why leaders and wealthy people from other countries come here for good health care.
@ThePelicans44 If you have unlimited money you can no doubt ge the best health care in the U.S., but average Joes get excellent care in other countries without having to worry about being bankrupted by the costs.
@ThePelicans44 people from other contries may come here for healthcare but its because of the QUALITY of healhcare not the cost. But whats the point of having good quaility healthcare if the so many of it's own citizens don't have the money, or insurance to take advantage of it?
@thisdeathkiss - Many Americans now go to Latin America for planned treatments because flying there and getting treatment is cheaper there than US.
The healthcare in US is becoming affordable for the rich and those with health plans from work. The latter is disappearing. Soon, our system will be only for the rich here and rich from rest of the world.

We the People pay taxes for Medicare which operates at a 3% overhead. We then must pay for private "health insurance" at which operates at a *10% - 50%* overhead entirely after taxes and their shills want us to believe their way is better?!
We're way past the political labels and ANYONE that promotes favoritism towards these for profit "health insurance" companies is not to be trusted!
And that moderator man... he's like we are going to have to leave it there at a tie.... NO you fuckin say that bafoon is fucking LYING he gets paid to LIE so the people who pay him can continue to rip you off...... that wasn't "let's leave it there to find a resolution to this debate....there was a resolution as soon as that prick started spouting his bullshit! I mean these people are souless and they claim to be on the side of god... I wonder if they really believe what they say
You go Bernie. Orin, you need to renounce your health care. You work for "We The People". You are an employee for us. If we don't have fairly priced health care, neither should you. The problem is the Corporations who run health insurance. Orin, how much have you accepted in donations from the health care lobbyists?
The health care industry has long been a major source of Hatch's campaign contributions, particularly drug companies. Since 1989, he has received $3 million from the sector.
Bernie, he rocks. I don't agree with everything he says, but love listening to this guy. One thing for sure, he really cares for health care and he is right.
A Canadian hospital will have 3 administrative support personnel while an American hospital will have 3,000 doing billing, match that to the 3,000 administrative support on the health insurance side and you have 2,000 times the bureaucracy.

Big time smackdown by Bernie!! Hatch just had to keep repeating meaningless "big government" talking points especially after Bernie "got him" on the Veteran's Administration discussion. Go Bernie!!

If "Government run health care" is so bad, than why does every other industrialized nation do better than us with GOVERNMENT RUN systems?
Xerxes855 2 years ago
other countries don't do better than us in health care outcomes.. that's why leaders and wealthy people from other countries come here for good health care.
ThePelicans44 1 year ago
@ThePelicans44 If you have unlimited money you can no doubt ge the best health care in the U.S., but average Joes get excellent care in other countries without having to worry about being bankrupted by the costs.

@ThePelicans44 that's because they can afford to BUY IT.

@ThePelicans44 people from other contries may come here for healthcare but its because of the QUALITY of healhcare not the cost. But whats the point of having good quaility healthcare if the so many of it's own citizens don't have the money, or insurance to take advantage of it?
thisdeathkiss 1 year ago

Thanks for informing me traceurjason. Three million dollars plus his annual raises. Must be nice.
Guess the bribes our elected officials get gives new meaning to the phrase Cash For Clunckers.

You go Bernie. Orin, you need to renounce your health care. You work for "We The People". You are an employee for us. If we don't have fairly priced health care, neither should you. The problem is the Corporations who run health insurance. Orin, how much have you accepted in donations from the health care lobbyists?
bpartoens 2 years ago 40
The health care industry has long been a major source of Hatch's campaign contributions, particularly drug companies. Since 1989, he has received $3 million from the sector.

Orrin Hatch just talks out his ass. Fuck him.
pchannell 2 years ago 3
Bernie, he rocks. I don't agree with everything he says, but love listening to this guy. One thing for sure, he really cares for health care and he is right.
A Canadian hospital will have 3 administrative support personnel while an American hospital will have 3,000 doing billing, match that to the 3,000 administrative support on the health insurance side and you have 2,000 times the bureaucracy.
