i think that the late Michael Lee (R.I.P)..captured Bonzo's (R.I.P) essence and feel for these songs more than any drummer these 2 ever played with ever since his death in '80....Jason is certainly a close 2nd to his dad, but i think Lee captured it more..and i'm not knocking Jason or his playing, because he is in fact , his father's son....still , Lee and Jason were and certainly are 2 superb drummers !
@tenoderaaridifolia Which is exactly why they called it quits after Bonzo's death. They knew the band would never sound the same - the "thunder" Bonzo brought to the band was gone.
@rodentcafeteria I agree.I heard that when Jimmy recruited Robert,he was first planning to make a band sound like folk-rock.But when Robert introduced Bonzo and Jimmy heard him play, his mind was made up to make it hard rock band. Hammer of gods will live in our hearts forever.
@Luukeeeehh People rarely give credit to the guy that played everything pretty well simultaneously John Paul Jones. What is special about Zeppelin is that they all play a huge part in the band on and off stage. That is why they are and always will be the best!
I was siting up front when they did this at the garden nyc MY JAW HIT THE FLOOR! From the word go i knew i was in the presents of the Gods -I was never so elated.
I saw P&P on this tour in Cleveland, twice. Once at the beginning of the tour & later as they came back through for the end of the tour. I must say, they were incredible both times, but a bit sharper the second time through.
I will never forget the boys kicking into "The Song Remains The Same". I nearly shit myself.
For a guy who never dreamed I would get to see these Rock Gods, those two shows in Cleveland were about as good as it gets. And yes, the Wanton song was a highlight for me as well!
@herbal1971 That might be as Page sobered up and kicked heroin. Still, all those years wasted fried his mind. Page never matured as a guitarist. He plays with early 1960s know-how. Most kids 16 play circles around Page, even Page's own material!
@TruthAxe Wow. You have created your own catch phrase.."you amuse". you seem to use that in alot of your replies..make a T-shirt....you may be the next Forrest Gump. As we see, you sure as hell are as simple minded as he was

@Plastikage Are you kidding this is the great drummer Mike Lee who has since pasted on. Dude you have no idea what your talking about if you think for one min that this guy needs to fill anyone's shoes. Just a note for ya it was stated by both Page and Plant that Lee was the only drummer they had seen that hit the skins as hard as Bonham.
I love the fact that P&P went out of their way to find songs they could do, that they had never played live with the old band. This was a killer choice, and I'm glad Page brought it back with the Crowes as well.
@xXXPrinceAlbertXXx the drummer is decent but Bonzo just ate this tune up back in the day. It wasnt till the day i first heard the wanton song that i realised Bonzo was the best drummer i had ever heard!!!
Page also said (from wikipedia) "we wanted, after In Through the Out Door, to make something hard-hitting and riff-based again". I love all Zeppelin tracks, though many later period stuff has some flaws, I think they're all good based on the quality of the musicians and how they meshed as a group. But for them to go back to pre-77 "Achilles Last Stand"-style songs would have been awesome. Of course there were other issues with Page's heroin use and Bonham's drinking. But if those were resolved..
I saw the No Quarter tour in late 90s Boston and they opened with "The Wanton Song"---Page bouncing out, Plant wailing----it was like a wave of thunder and energy going right through you, the whole building swayed
You can see where Tom Morrello's riff style and the structure of the rage songs comes from, That stop start riff that revolves around the song was Jimmy Pages creation.... A true pioneer, their music will live forever
This is not the high point of the tour, unfortunately, as Plant's voice is not nearly capable of reaching the upper registers like on other parts of this tour. Nevertheless, great fun to watch! Thanks!
@strother1969 Barry "Frosty" Smith taught Bonzo alot of the tricks that were later used in Moby Dick and other drumming solos. Check out Frosty playing with Lee Michaels here on YouTube.
When I first saw this I thought Plant is going to attempt Immigrant Song? He had enough trouble singing it live in the 70's, but it was just a segue to The Wanton Song. Nice job.
YES! It is basically a "marching" snare. Tommy Lee from Motley Crue was known for using one on their earlier live tours. Great eye you have. Those things are Fricken Loud!
either of them. theyre just as good as 30 years ago and thats just incredible. had bonham lived....man if only. i dont think glam or hair rock wouldve ever had a chance in the 80's.
That wouldn't surprise me at all, but I think that the band would've gotten another vocalist and gone another direction and still seen success. Thats what was so awesome about Zep, the power behind the drums, guitar and bass were just as integral as the vocals.
Bonhams death had a more demoralizing effect. You can bet your ass they would've gotten back together regardless.
@serge809 Considering glam had really started in the early 70s with Bowie and T-Rex, I think it would have been a sub-genre. Maybe not *as* dominant as it became in the 80s. Zeppelin would have obviously been a force if Bonham had lived. Even if they had another 10 years together into the early 90s. Would have changed rock as we know it now, I'm sure. I would love to have more Carouselambra type tracks.
@serge809 I don't know. In through the out door sucked pretty hard. I don't think the world needed another Carouselambra. But it does suck that Bonham died :(
@blujack07 I saw them in Pittsburgh in 95' and I wasn't too much of a fan of Michael Lee. I first saw him with Page and Plant during the No Quarter performance on MTV. When I first saw Michael Lee I was like, "uuuugh!!!! they went from Bonzo to.....him?"
I hate how he uses that big ass snare drum, yet, it sounds like he's playing on a little 13 inch piccalo snare. His whole drumkit sounded real weak live too.
Michael Lee doesn't sit too well with me, but that's just me.
@markpen23 His drumming sounds weak at times due to audio/video problems. I have seen him live. I was young, real young, but that was a loud show. Best concert in my life besides the O2 show. THAT rocked lol. But Jason, Lee and maybe for shits and giggles Grohl it would say all have the funk to do stuff with Jimmy and the crew. Greatest band in my opinion.
@MrGlove123 yea but even jimmy & robert gave this guy credit, they said he was the closest thing to bonzo, so if they give him THAT KIND OF CREDIT, u have to be impressed

Yeah your right it would work, I'm just saying it's a lot easier to keep it in F# especially when you have to hit the open E chord on Immigrant. And yeah i'm a Guitarist I play Immigrant and Wanton in my band.
