Not meant to slam, note that I never mention the author's vehicle. I just pointed out, through firsthand experience, that expensive luxury 4x4's aren't necessary for these obstacles, and thus off -roading is not limited to the yuppies; the everyday working-person can also enjoy it. And one could argue that Lion's Back's length, height, and uniqueness make it special. Also, note that in Moab all of the trails are Jeep trails, meaning they are most suitable for Jeeps, not Land Rovers or Hummers.

Totally Agree, Im a Genuine Jeep fan and I agree its about getting out and exploring.

Strengths and weaknesses, my plastics on 2006 Grand Cherokee are crap, but the handling on the English twisty roads is very good, traction (off road and snow) even with stock tyres is unbelievable, as is the 0-60mph in 9 seconds on a Diesel.

I drove Land Rovers for quite a few years down here in Brazil back in my army days... damn good cars!

(of course, they ain't nearly as powerful as those hummers, but they are incredibly versatile as well as reliable)

who ever thinks jeeps are as good just go to moab and drive your stock jeep on a trail called hell's revenge.. you wont make it with out body damage brake damage and probally engine to small for climbs.. My stock 2002 disco 2 made it fine the only jeeps i saw were not really jeeps and not inexpensive. i talked to tree jeepers from the east coast and there jeeps had about fifty grand of upgrades to them.. i paid 14,900 for my rover like two and a half years ago.. oh and i drove there they towed.

Drive one and you'll know. I completely appreciate your point of view, I truly do. I felt the same way until I actually drove one. I'm on my 4th and about to get my 5th. Never a lick of trouble with any of them and they make every obstacle/challenge effortless and comfortable. The price? It's all going to the patent lawyers. LR has lead the traction control science for over 50 years which cascades slowly to all other brands.

Before that, Range rovers were in the same "piece of shit British car" classification as Jaguar. BTW...Jaguar is also owned by Ford now. You should read the financials of Ford and LR. You would note that Ford basically only received money/profits on its investments into LR/Jag. They have very little influence over the design/parts/quality, anything. That is why you won't find Ford parts on a LR. It's a common misconception I know, but this is a pure case of badging, not rebadging a car like so many others do. It shares no parts with any other Ford models.

Not true. i own a 1988 lr 90 and only thing its ever had replaced is engine filters/ oil. Still on the original propshaft u.j's, and it regularly goes offroad.

Not sure. I know it won the best lease residual for any car in the world. Not sure if it's an award but if company-leased, only a LR can be written off 95% in the first 4 years vs 25% or something for a similarly priced luxury car.

That was a sport in this video. It looks high because the video compression "squeezed" the wide angle image to standard format, making it look taller. I agree, I LOVE the LR3. Had one last year and want another one. Love the Sport but miss the room of the LR3.

It's won no such award. RR's aren't the worst, but the LR3 and Defender are better (from their line-up. If you want the best, then it's Toyota Land Cruiser hands down. Jeeps are also good, and if you want the best luxury SUV with and real off-road capability, then it's the G55.

In the end, there's a very long list of accolades on Jeep and Land Cruiser's resumes which the Land/Range Rover's will never accomplish.

True. This is one of the more over-rated climbs out there. It was a piece of cake. I even used Hill Descent Control to come down it it was so tame. I guess people like the "climbing to the sky" look from the ground. I would be surprised if an Audi Allroad Quattro couldn't make it up there. Surprised if anything couldn't make it up there. Apparently though, as seen in all the black tire marks at the bottom however, plenty of vehicles have spun their tire trying to get traction.
