your turtle can have a full tank of water since he is a big guy also that basking area is way too smal ! my 3 hatchling have a bigger basking platform than that ! get a piece of plywood sand it down and drill a hole in each corner attach a wire or whatever and hang it close to the water so he can pull himself up or make a ramp... anyway try not to let it float in the water the bottom will get slimy after a while. not trying to hurt your feeling just tryin to make ur turtle more happy and dry.

hahah! you're right, people are haters! You have a nice tank, you can up the water level more, I see you have a good basking area for him, as long as the water is not so high that he can escape he would love the extra swimming space. Also be careful with gravel that fits into his mouth. They tend to eat it and if it gets stuck in their digestive tract they can die. I have sand in my tank - it's small enough that if they eat it it shouldn't get stuck. =)
