Beautiful and brilliant scene. I thought a romantic movie about Hugh Jackman travelling in time and falling in love with Meg Ryan would be atrocious...I was proven wrong. Amazing job to everyone involved in this film. Especially Liev for really selling this idea and scene. He did an incredible job :)
@RealHipHopTunes Because the "Awfscars" are totally rigged. See "The Shawshank Redemption" was nominated for seven and was awarded zero. See how Marisa Tomei was merely nominated for her role in "The Wrestler" but won for, excuse me, "My Cousin Vinny"? Explain that one to me. And this guy Liev Schreiber gets passed over. Totally. Mickey Rourke was passed over. Do a movie about a blind jewish lesbian resistance fighter in WW II and win Best Picture. I have ignored the "awfscars" for years.
The best part to me is even after the monologue is through when Gretchen says she believes him, Liev's character looks at her as if she is crazy for believing him. It just makes such a good ending for that scene.
@NateSean Listen, I'm a man. I like women. In fact, I love them and the way they move, speak, walk and even breath. The smell of their hair and the way they can act silly or even just when they are trying, repeatedly, to back up a truck into a parking space. I love them. I could watch any movie with Liev Schreiber in it along with Hugh Jackman doing nothing but playing chess and smoking cigars while talking about .. anything. They are awesome actors. Also, Angelina Jolie in SALT rocks with Liev.
@HolaStrangerr If we look at this as a piece of brilliant acting we see the level of intensity that this man can convey with just facial expression, eyes and tone. Delivery is everything and with no props he nails this down so perfectly it should be used in acting classes as an example of perfect first person delivery. The emotional foil is Stephanie Sanditz. We, as socially sensitive people, judge the weight of emotion often in what others do and here Gretchen is the lens we see Stuart through.

Love Liev Schreiber!!!!! It's too bad he's not in more movies. Such an amazing actor and he's only in a few major films.

@lastmiles I agree, so many underrated actors around and they haven't won yet. But Oscar or not Liev is still a talented ass actor!!

Liev Scriber could chew gum and stare at the screen for two hours and I'd pay to see it. Especially if Hugh Jackman was there.
