@poppycock32 It's a common misconception among English speakers that "ich" should be pronounced "ick" or else with a really strong throaty "ch" sound like in "loch" – this is wrong! It's actually pronounced like a cross between "eesh" and "ihhh," if you can imagine that. Saying "ish" is probably the easiest for an English speaker.

@poppycock32 You're welcome. :) Yup, it applies to every word! All syllables ending in "-ich," "-ech," "-äch," "-üch," and "-öch" have this soft "sh"-like sound to them. That sound is called the "ich-laut." (The ich-laut also comes after other consonants, like in the word "Mädchen.")

Other syllables (ending in "-ach," "-uch," and "-och") have a slightly different "ch" sound which is closer to the "ch" in "loch," but not as strong and throaty. This sound is called the "ach-laut."
