I wish I'd seen this BEFORE I ran the marathon. Great tips! What an incredible experience this was. I'm looking forward to doing my second marathon at WDW next year, and someday I'll do the Goofy, too!
Congratulations to the great Brazilian champion Fredson Costa for winning it twice! Overcoming all of his difficulties to be the FIRST this year again!!! I hope one day I can run with you guys there.
@Qraig: You are most welcome. Good luck on your first Goofy - you will do well, I'm sure. Don't go out too hard on your half marathon; save some for Sunday. See you at the finish line(s)!
@goarmy176: Since I was doing the Goofy, I believe Disney did some recalculations for those runners and I ended up at the very front of Corral B - I've been in A in the past.
I got a little misty eyed too. I did the 1/2 last year, had back surgery, & since then been training for the full. Your videos are VERY inspiring, & helpful. Thx!
@maysjake: I hope you have a very memorable and safe marathon this coming January. Be sure, above all, to have fun; it's what Disney is all about. Best of luck and we'll see you at the finish line!
@MarioSonic2010: Good luck with the training! If you are considering training for the Goofy Challenge, visit the website listed under the video itself. The website will provide you with tips, race preparation and additional videos to keep you motivated. BEST OF SUCCESS TO YOU!
Thanks for the tips. I was actually wondering about that race retreat thing when I kept seeing it in your other videos. 2012 will be my first Goofy Challenge and I'm really excited!
Just one quick question. I know you mentioned hills in 19 and 20 but are there are other hills in the race? Or is that about it? Or anything that resembles an uphill? Thanks!
@StarGirl11: The Race Retreat will be offered (online purchase) when we get closer to the Disney World Marathon Weekend. I believe it's around $95 (at least it has been in the past) and includes pre-race and post-race amenities - food, souvenirs, massages, place to warm up, etc.
@StarGirl11: The "hills" I speak of at Disney World are really on- and off-ramps and overpasses that you typically see on the Interstate highways. With that in mind, on the marathon route, you will experience "hills" at Mile 19 and 20 (overpasses), during Mile 21 (on ramp), Mile 22 (on ramp), a hill as round the Board Walk (Mile 24) and a short hill just before you enter EPCOT (during Mile 24) - they save the hills for last! Be sure to walk them if you need to and save your energy!
Fantastic video - I appreciate that you have taken the time to create these videos to share with all of us. I used them as part of my training for the WDW 2011 Half Marathon and have been using them to get ready for my first full marathon (tentatively WDW 2012). They are a great visual to actually see the course and prepare mentally. You are a coach for many of us! Thanks!
@FawFamily92: Thanks so much for the kind words and it is sincerely my pleasure to share these views with all. I wish you the very best in your journey to secure that Marathon Mickey medal - pace yourself, enjoy yourself through the parks and power through Miles 13-16 and 19-22. What your mind can conceive, your body can achieve. You can most certainly do it and when you cross that finish line, you will feel FANTASTIC! Again, best of luck!
Great video! I really want to try to run the half in 2013. With this FL heat, I haven't gotten around to training; I'm not sure I can go from 0 to 13 miles in 6 months and sign up with confidence. This is great inspiration to power through! :)
@saxyblonde27 One year ago I was a nonrunner as well. As in zero. I started training in February 2011 and this month I came away from WDW with a marathon medal! I was more of a tortoise than a hare, but I made it! Check out the runDisney site and the link there to Jeff Galloway's videos. He was my inspiration and I used his walk/run technique. Thank you to WDW for helping make a dream come true!
