The best western. It deals about love, marriage, conscience, duty, courage, the fact that doing the right thing, though apparently desperate, wins... To watch over and over again.
True, the original score was by Dimitri Tiomkin (and lyrics by Ned Washington), but the the music for this piece is NOT the original score. I don't know who Marricone is, but the music is really great - almost as good as the original!

I agree that it was a "bloody good film". But, understand why it was so controversial.
The American Western - celebrates the sacred American Cowboy - the American man of honor making the West safe for good, wholesome, real Americans - not big city cosmopolitan types, university liberals/leftists etc.
High Noon presents a different vision of the American West - where there is only one White American man of honor - rest of the town cowards, hypocrites, only one Mexican woman sees the truth.

Now back to the movie: Just saw the film recently and was struck how Leone was influenced by it , especially the very frequent use of close-ups. You can see it especially in "Once upon a time in the West"...not making any big discoveries here of course--to anybody who's seen both films it's obvious. Of course the clocks in "Noon" are echoed by the great pocket watch in, which one is it "Fistful..." or "...Few Dollars More"?

Peckinpah made one decent movie (Ride the High Country). Major Dundee was crap and Pat Garrett was AWFUL, with a far too old Kristofferson as Billy the Kid. Clint and Hank Fonda lent Leone's crappy movies the only credibility they had. So glad both Leone and Peckinpah died at around 60.

True, the original score was by Dimitri Tiomkin (and lyrics by Ned Washington), but the the music for this piece is NOT the original score. I don't know who Marricone is, but the music is really great - almost as good as the original!
