  • どう見てもギターです

    ありがとうございました。

  • This crowd holds a beat better than any other crowd I've ever seen.

  • This is one of the greatest Paul Gilbert band videos on YouTube. It deserves millions of hits. Amazing version of this song, Mike Szuter rocks hot tasty abs, washerboard style. Paul Gilbert picks up the bass, plays it briefly, then gives it back before he makes it spontaneously combusts.

  • Holy Shit.. that was awesome!! Paul is clearly God, and his Bass Player must be the Pope..amazing

  • I'm like bass deaf.....I can hardly ever hear the damn thing.

  • Watching their hands i got epelepsy.

  • szuter is a very good player on bass and guitar ... He kicks ass!!

  • i love the part when crowd starts to clap!!! really cool!

  • when paul started playing bass, my jaw literally dropped to the floor. mike szuter is also insane on guitar.

  • at five 56 he for got that bassists dont use the airplane flangger

  • 15 dislikes from Yngwie family

  • Paul sounds a bit like Billy Sheehan ... cool !

  • "IMPROV!!!" ,James Lipton

  • for impatients like me...here it starts..5.25

  • and who said bass is for people who cant play guitar. and how the FUCK does PG play that shit on bass?! ridiculous

  • @aweisti

    Big hands.

  • nomaaaa muy buen video, estan jodidamente cabrones jaja, muy chido el video, que envidia, pero de la buena xD

  • Nice RHCP T-shirt. xD

  • Damn no disrespect Eric Martin is incredible but there's that X factor in Paul's voice that I'm in love with

  • 6:13 to 6:30 Roundabout by Yes

  • why does paul always have headphones on in every video ?

  • @jamesha175 He has serious tinnitus so he uses the headphones as monitors as well as to protect his ears.

  • 6:11 paul breaking out some Yes

  • If you watch any Paul Gilbert related video's the ratio of likes to dislikes are phenomonal. Goes to show that anyone that is aware of him just loves his work. Of course why wouldn't they !!?!? There should be a Paul Gilbert awareness and appreciation week. Maybe an international holiday for him.

  • @jointz999 It could show as well that only those who like him even care about him.

  • fuck yeah!

  • what are these two dolts under me arguing about? i was too busy actually enjoying the video

  • @P34V3Y7 good for you. We were arguing about a fool attacking asian people (while he's got a korean name). I'm sure you wasted your time reading it, but I wanted to bother you a bit.

Amazing video anyway ! A great "bravo" to Mike, brillant on vocals and bass

  • @Hideisalegend im simply raising an eyebrow at the fact that i was just messaged. i dont care if he is Korean, Chinese, has aids, ect...

  • @SLee1337 you're quite funny. I totally admit I've mistaken about the origin of your nick, here is a point for you, but now (here is my own point) answer the following question: are you stupid enough to criticize asian people while using a Korean nickname (and I assume Lee is also your first name, is this case, I hope you will involve your parents in lawsuits for naming you this way, won't you? ) or do you just pretend to be an idiot?

so, are you gonna reply me with more infos about korea now?

  • @SLee1337 okay great. And so, what continent does Korea belong to? africa? you prick

  • @SLee1337 haha you seem to misconsider asian people you dickhead, but do you know that "Lee" is the american form of the chinese name "Li" ? quite pathetic,

  • It's kinda surprising that these two don't use their fingertips.

  • Mike is MEGA!!!

  • Am I hard of hearing or did I really hear someone yell "FREEBIRD" at 7:23?

  • @youztuber5000 Maybe you're just gay and retarded.

  • @bobcatmonster : Maybe that was uncalled for...?

  • at 4:40, paul turned down the volume on his guitar while mike solo'd on bass. then when he came back to try and start playing again, he forgot to turn his volume back up; hence the "technical difficulties". I've watched this vid like 50 times now and i only just noticed that today........

  • Who is that bassist!?

  • @bearfeymous Mike Szuter. it says so in the description

  • @acdcislaw Mike's pretty bad ass himself,lol

  • @billyfan8305 of course, you have to be a bad ass to tour with Paul Gilbert.

  • f**** amazing!!!

  • I'd love to see a bass duel between paul and sheehan

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha 5:54-5:57 is so cool and makes me smile, he's such a cool guy

  • Nice Mike !

  • 14 people didn't understand what the video was about

  • Good singers!!!

  • Bass doesn't look big on Paul...

  • mike szuter's done a pretty good job here!!

  • @Rvgrungeman Finally, someone else who knows who Mike is!

  • @midgitmanxx lol...... i know him coz i've got the "get out of my yard" dvd :P

  • @Rvgrungeman Sadly, ive never personally met him. Atleast i dont think i have. But when i was 2 my mom took me to CJ Szuters birthday party. With i could remember it.

  • @midgitmanxx hmmmm..... nice man.. =)

  • Comment removed

  • nice red hot chili peppers t shirt

  • He's so fucking cool

  • 7:23 "Freebird!" lolololololol

  • if it has strings, paul can shred it

  • Paul isn't human...it just doesnt add up!

    or Matt Bellamy (:

  • @chonichon07 matt bellamy is bad at guitar

  • @bassmanhybrid dude ur crazy !

he's great at guitar and can sing very well!

but then again i cant make people think my way:/

watch Matt's Magic Fingers if u dont believe me,

    can i get a witness!!

  • @bassmanhybrid He's better than you I guarantee!

  • @kennedy78757 You wouldn't have a clue. I never said I was better, but the fact of the matter is, Bellmay is not much of a guitarist. I've seen alot of his playing, but I have never seen him play something that I cannot handle.

  • @bassmanhybrid Mr Armchair Quarterback! Please put up a video of you playing. Put your money where your negative mouth is!

  • @kennedy78757 You are the one that brought up my playing. I suppose I shouldn't be negative, I do like his music, but it just annoys me that people think he is in the same league as Paul Gilbert. Bellamy is no great guitarist, I assume you do not play much/ any guitar, otherwise you would see this for yourself.

  • @bassmanhybrid this is the dumbest thing ive ever read -___-

  • @theroll How can written text possibly be dumb?

  • @bassmanhybrid i couldn't agree with you more on your comment about people thinking bellamy is in the same league as paul

  • @RyanB747 Finally someone who can see past Matt Bellamy's mediocre playing.

  • Freebird at 7:23

  • f_ck thats a bad ass bass rig

  • holy shit! paul with a bass is like a new instrument

  • Paul Gilbert and Mike Szuter are terrible..

    At being bad musicians.

  • 13 dislike? THEY ARE INSANE!

  • Paul's singer/bassist can fucking jam :)

  • 13 idiots don't appreciate music

  • 3:44 is a famous lick from the stairway to heaven live solo, bless paul lol.

  • is this the manchester gig ? when he toured with satriani ? .. i was there for that.. fucking amazing gig...

  • @jonnybiggs

    .. read description son.

    Teatro Teleton, Santiago, Chile

  • The best part is when Gilbert plays "Roundabout" from Yes on the bass

  • @trotskyfication That bassist has more talent in his little toe than you do in your whole body you armchair quarterback! He sings, plays bass, and even plays guitar great. Let's see how well you play. Put up a video of yourself singing, playing bass, and playing guitar to this song! Jackass!

  • @trotskyfication Make a video of yourself playing bass and put it up on Youtube so we can see how great you are. Maybe Paul will pick you as his next bassist. NOT! The bassist can sing, play bass, and even, play guitar awesome. He has more talent in his little toe than you do in your whole body! Jackass!

  • paul is bad ass.

  • 6:14 they play roundabout by yes sick!

  • SR. PAUL GILBERT!!!!

  • 6:56 nice work by the bassist!

  • thanks for the download link paul is jut awesome

  • @ys7b Wow, you have got to be the dumbest person I know. Watch the whole video.

  • @ys7b U are the only idiot here .

  • i love how both those instruments match his shirt

  • @trotskyfication Your one-sided negativity and ignorance AMAZES ME! :) I don't know about you but.. even if I were a competent bass player; it would be natural to not know what to throw in to top Paul Gilbert, that does NOT mean that he sucks... Idiot lol, Not only does Paul have a unique style and intense knowledge of patterns, but he has enough perspective to be able to fill in for himself on that guys bass, doesn't mean the bassist sucks. You go try it next time =D I'd LOVE to see that.

    Peace

  • Jesus, that bassist can play

  • That was absolutely insane.

  • That is one kickass bassist.

  • what's wrong with his guitar?

  • An impressive duplication of Sheehan's bass tone on this.

  • The bas player is Mike Szuter, who has played on many of Paul's CDs and has toures many times with him. The big difference of Paul's style of playing is how clean he sounds. Even compared to Szuter, Paul's notes sound cleaner and more differentiated, even when he plays very fast. In any case, Szuter is the hell of a musician. Paul Gilbert is just out of this universe.

  • whos da guy playin wit paul???????

  • Paul's singing again!? Awesome! Way impressed here! Love it!

  • need to say this....

paul is awesome i know D:

but come on that bassist is just awesome too

he can play guitar very nice and theri bass skills are awesome

  • i wonder how was the drummer doing? hehe

  • yaaaaawn

  • jeaaa this is heavy :D

  • lol @Rataverde, you spelt "know" wrong.

  • yeah i "know" XD jajaajja

  • people are gonna bitch at me for saying this but the way paul played the bass it might as well have been a guitar with huge ass gauge strings, no bassist type things going on but it was pretty cool to see this, i would prefer to see some slap stuff out of him next :)

  • shut up tha fuck off... please if you dont nkow dont speak

  • really, you feel the need to tell me i dont no what im talking about, he mostly plays natural minor and pentatonic when soloing, maybe some lydian mode thrown in every now and again, watch how he plays the bass, same 11 note pattern he uses all the time when he plays guitar, ergo i said it might as well have been a guitar with heavy heavy strings, i would of accepted the shut the fuck up in pride cause i know paul is amazing and people are gonna feel the need to defend him but i no wat im sayin

  • damn that was a well phrased comeback, I agree with you

  • i cant quite tell if your being sarcastic or not

  • "would prefer to see some slap" "guitar with huge ass gauge strings" please.... this not is a coment for a big men " i dont need to tell me i dont what to no what m talking about"...

  • I agree with you.

But what you didn't say, was that Paul is a music teacher at GIT, and he probably knows ALOT more scales than Pentatonic, Lydian, and Natural minor, altough he rarely utilizes them.

  • @Emil315 thanks for agreeing and i understand what you mean, but he doesnt teach a ton of stuff beyond what he plays unless you take lessons for a long ass time, there is so much you can do with just a simple pentatonic scale or natural minor, especially if you make it tnps like he does. But every teacher has their breaking point on what they can teach, if you reach a point with paul and you would prefer to play around with mixolydian stuff then joe satriani is your man(hypothetical of course)

  • Yeah, I agree. But to be honest, I think Paul Gilbert learns alot even today.

Also, despite his favorizing of scales, he IS very varied. You did say yourself that there's alot you can do with pentatonic and natural minor.

  • I agree with you, was pretty much the same stuff that he normally plays. but pretty awesome though since it ain't the same thing to play something on a guitar as it is on a bass.

  • WOW!!!!! This is what live performances are about! It must've been fun to watch live 'cause the performance is electric even on video.

  • I think mr. Paul Gilbert took some bass lessons from mr. Billy Sheehan!!!! hahahaha

  • all mr. big members know how to play each others' instrument, like billy on guitar paul on drums and so on... I saw mr big reunion concert and there's 1 part where they swap intruments.

  • I wouldnt doubt that for 1 second, they are all overall great musicians

  • for smoke on the water, right?

  • and Billy Sheehan took some guitar lesson from mr. Paul Gilbert too.

  • @tfast210 Probably, but the ironic part is for the majority of his career, Billy never took formal lessons. He says in another video floating around here somewhere that he can play all of the notes, but might not be able to tell you exactly what they are. Go figure, huh?

  • @tfast210 Apparently as a musician you really must know how to play all instruments. Would you be surprise that Paul Gilbert can play drums and keyboards too?

  • @kilrhadi he can play drums very well, I'm not sure if he can play keyboard, I'm sure he can learn if he doesn't already know how to.

  • @acdcislaw

Paul started out with keyboards (piano). So yes, he can play em.

  • @Dtyler171 and with this piece of information i can now state with 100% certainty that Paul Gilbert is the God of everything

  • sheehan doesn't.

  • Real bassists know they're completely different ways to play the instrument and that its stupid to say one is "incorrect".

They sound different. Saying one is wrong is like saying Fenders are shitty because they have bolt-on necks as opposed to glued.

  • hey people, do you know what effect is Paul using in this video?:)

  • @boby44c witch craft obviously -_-

  • yeah, i saw a video about the picks he uses

it takes less time to get good with a think pick, but if you really practice, it sounds better with a thin

  • Thinner picks allow for more dynamics than thick ones, but since they have more give to them, faster picking is more difficult. Thick picks have more of the same kind of attack no matter how you hit the string, which "can" be a good thing.

Just get good with a thin pick. You'll have much more control over your instrument.

  • Awesome!!!

  • drummer must be bored

  • Yeah he does, watch the entire video.

  • oh sorry.

  • Paul throws in a riff from "Roundabout" by Yes at 6:14. AWESOME!

  • 渋い!

  • i have this video also and will be uploading it soon :D

  • Holy shit mike szuter is amazing.

  • paul gilbert could actually sing?! this ain't no man, he's a walking prodigy!

  • he actually can play drums, bass, guitar, a lot of instruments of percussion (i read it)

and sing, also he can play keyboard he is so versatile

    he is awesome ¬¬

He actually is a guitarrista that could play almost everything, and i hate him cos he is not famous for playing drums but he is better than me xD

  • I think i'm at least 150,000 of the 242,000 views..... omg yes

  • lol

  • jesus that other guy rocks!

  • Use a pick that feels and sounds good to you, no matter if it´s big, small, thin or thick. Paul uses the 0.60 Dunlop Tortex pics btw.

  • i prefer the 0.7 :)

  • wow! awesome!

  • that trade-off at the end was amazzing!

  • try jazz III picks

  • or the jazz III max grip those two are my favorite, only ones i use.

  • Comment removed

  • I dig the drum :D

  • also. anyone know what size pick gilbert uses? i've recent;y made good progress using a thinner .60mm tortex.

  • go thin if u wannna play fastt

i go thick for a challenge but i use high gauge strings and a custom setup on my gibson so all is finee

  • Not necessarily. Malmsteen for example uses a Dunlop 1.5mm Delrin pick with string gauge .008 | .011 | .014 | .022 | .032 | .048.

Steve Vai Plays 1.0mm and mostyl 9 gauge.

I think they like thicker picks because they're less wobbly than thinner picks.

  • The thinner the string the faster. The thicker the pick the better. You want a thick pick because when you pick the strings you want the pick to move the strings not the other way around.

  • I used to use a thinner pick, but it flops about when sweep / alternate picking. Oaul used 1.00mm, hope this helps :)

  • u shouldn't go for thin picks if u want to pick fast.

I use 1.1 mm and I think that's good for picking fast and sweeping

  • It is an Ibanez pick. It is small and really thick. It does not bend at all. I know because I bought a big lot of them that was left over from a tour or something. They sell them on Ebay all the time.

  • keep on rockin. i'm 23 right now. i'm near decent on the guitar. i want a music career... i see a lot of younger kids playing waaaaaaaay better than me and it makes me hopeless. is that at all reasonable or do i have a realistic goal here?

  • i turned 23 5 days ago. I'm right with ya man. i'll tell you though, i've been practicing my ass off, like speed drills and blues tracks @ 5 hours a day. if you work hard enough it's reallistic. but you don't need to be paul gilbert to be good, you need to be paul gilbert to be god.

  • dope ass bass and guitar battle!

    haha, 666 ratings!! woooooooooh!

  • haha nice! Thank you for that 666th rating \m/_

  • i think he uses those onstage because he is deft in one ear

  • No, because they are monitors that deliver clear tone, and they PREVENT him going deaf. ;)

  • WOW AWESOME - i have seen Steve Vai play this song on tour with Billy Sheehan and although they were amazing this version is better.

  • yes how much are some earhphones like that. i need some to rehearse and practice with my vox velvetronix lab se

  • this is awesome!!!

  • are those earphones he has on? whats going on there how does it work i wanna know

  • Yeah they are extreme isolation headphones, I like them alot, to me they help get cleaner because you hear everything directly, as for how he uses them live the only thing I can think is maybe his wireless pack has a headphone jack (I'm probably wrong).

  • Shit NVM I dunno he doesn't even have a wireless pack.

  • i imagine that its like recording in the studio, everything is so much clearer and you can make it sound more "perfect"
