I was at that concert (Derby 1982) six months before I left for NZ, recorded for the BBC. The band toured NZ early 2000 and we tagged along, assisting in CD and programme sales. Got to know all the members of the band really well. Such a great bunch and absolute professionals as always. Best band in the world then and now for my money. Roger Hill thought he was going to an audition for Chris Farlowe....
Had the joy of seeing him and acker Bilk on stage on thursday Night. I met chris in the foyer and had a conversation with him. He's a very nice man. Well deserving of fame unlike these sponges that are pouring out crap rap!
A perfect band !! All of them are as good as the famous DSCB members, with just a different style. A too "german" style : electric guitar or bass, not enough 2-4 beat, and often that loooong note at the end of the tunes...
Thanks for your response. Living as I do in the wilds of central France, I rarely have the opportunity to see live concerts and so I literally devour any tapes and DVD's I can find, which is probably why I notice so many little quirks of all sorts.
Johnny McCallum also had a broken or missing front tooth.
Perhaps, not having to travel any more, they have had time to find a dentist.
This was my favourite Chris Barber line up, even though I had a softer spot for John Slaughter , guitar wise. Roger Hill was, however, the better singer, but how come he never found the time to replace that missing front tooth ? Could it have been to help pull in the groupies ?
Another cool one! I saw these guys live and met them. They signed a dvd I bought of their tour in 2002 and they signed the inlay. By then the band was called The Big Chris Barber Band of course. Cool!
Chris Barber has performed wonderfully over the years even back in the 60's when he was touring the world.

Nice, but severely lacking without a clarinet. Just not the same.

@glennestey I think you're right. A little bit of clarinet thrown in here and there would have been great

Magnifique !
C'est la meilleur version que j'ai jamais entendue. Le tempo est parfait. Le jeu du trombone est remarquable.
Merci

This was co-written by Ray Bauduc, Bob Crosby's drummer in the Thirties. The original Crosby recording was played faster than this version.

Very insightful; I was about to post the same thing; I prefer their version actually.

Love the way they sound with Ottilie Patterson, mainly in "STRANGE THIS HAPPEN EVERY DAY" and "DARLING NELLY GRAY". Greetings from Spain.
