  • People in other countries around the world with their own media reports noticed that the American so-called 'liberal' media were very pro war and pro Bush.....they didn't ask the tough questions and the rest of the world wondered what happened to the free press in the US. I don't remember the US networks even showing how widespread and huge the protests in other countries were either.

  • at least katie is the only one who is at least slightly honest with herself...

    smh at these "reporters"..

  • "We're going to block access"...

The media should have raised concerns when Helen Thomas was "punished" for asking "President" Bush direct questions MONTHS BEFORE 9-11 ATTACKS!!!

The media was an unwitting accomplish in the scam pulled on the American People.

  • Williams' comments are bizarre! He didn't get the question. Gibson is just making up falsehoods. After Powell's speech Gibson and others were gushing about how Powell "made his case" and were not asking any questions about where's the evidence that supported his claims? If they had asked to see the evidence instead of the speech props, the maybe Powell would not have given the speech in the first place.

  • Lauer: "But we didn't give into that!"

Couric: "No, we didnt give into it".

No "Katie", I think you did.

    ----

But in the end, the press weren't pressures. They supported it because war is good rating. Look at Fox, without 9/11 and Iraq, they'd have pathetic ratings.

And they never asked about the REAL issues, namely how is Iraq even a threat to the U.S.? What about the people who will die?

    Ah, screw those vipers.

  • "the gentle lady from Columbia Broadcasting System"

    FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE

  • look at them trying to excuse themselve for not doing their jobs, how sad, they have blood on their hands.

  • Dick Cheney was calling newspaper editors and threatening them...The White House under Bush was corrupt. However, the media have a lot to answer for, and hopefully they will learn their lesson for the future...

  • Other countries "are" laughing at us. (Castro, Ceaser, And the Iranian that wants to destroy Isreal.) We can sweep it all under the rug if we wish, sooner or later action will be required. (And sending ground troops everytime, will make this country go into new ownership.)

  • How dare the media not think correctly for us! People we have to admit we were asleep at the wheel and awash with ridiculous patriotism at the time. Reporters are suppose to give us facts but they delivered propaganda quite brilliantly at time. Lets not fall for it again please.

  • The media should be condemned in the strongest terms for NOT asking the hard questions in regards to the war. Just how much has the Bush administration spent silencing the main players? A. millions You could call it a pandemic of lies and distortions and anybody that thinks the war was about anything other than stealing oil is a fool.

  • nobssagittarius2 Saddam was making nukes, by what piece of supreme intel do you deduce this from? If he had any which he didn't it would be because the U.S. sold them to him. Go back to your crack pipe.

  • how many of these journalist are Jews? that would actually have really CARED about nuclear weapons anymore than a U.S. invasion of an arab country. answer THAT.

  • Ya.. I'm sure they're laughing after the US pretty much sent Iraq to the stone age after Iraq did NOTHING to the US. You're an ignorant moron.

  • It would have been cheaper? I'd say that'd be a high price to pay for kicking off WWIII.

  • We are already at a ww3.

  • making the nuke? where do you get that info from? From your ass?

  • We actually have reopened the factories after the september 11th attacks. (What they did no one can say.) But this isnt the 40's anymore we are living a diffrent day and age. No one knows what will happen. (all we can do is perpair and possably prevent.)

  • Other countries laugh at you today because you guys were stupid enough to fall into the terrorist trap, its actually what bin laden and the others wanted, to get you involved into an endless war,

You guys will end up like the soviets in afghanistan, its already begun.

Its right in your face but you have become too arogant to see it.

  • The avrage age for someone in afghanistan is 44. Bin laden is knocking right at it. (Thanks to leaders like him teaching how to live healthy lifestlyes.)

  • ??? that was the most random answer I've ever had, ease up on the crack fella

  • How am I on crack? You compaired this war in afghanistan to the 80's war the had with Russia. (Russia helped us out in this war, we learned from their mistakes. They dont wont attacks from terrorist ither.)

  • Watch foreign channels guys BBC, Sky, etc.... The world is not like you are told....

  • The entire media is controlled worse than when it was in the Soviet Union, CIA runs the content of what we hear and see on the press and Television. Wake up America..Stop falling for the deciet and propaganda you hear from Washington and Hollywood.

  • Do you have proof or even evidence to that effect?

  • What a bunch of amnesia suffering bullshitters! And still they take cover and pull the get out of coward camp card!

  • Thankyou for sharing!

  • Ahmad Rashid on Fresh Air today 5 June 08

Now, that man is a journalist and political-scientist

    not lixe the bozo-administration

    and these puppets

  • we are all to blame

i was not in the united states in 2000

but i am glad that the footage came out that people threw rotten fruit at them

thats how i feel about bushand co

nice story on the air force too,

comedy of errors, but every story is a trojan horse

  • This war was so far removed from the people of this nation that it was easy for them to take us there and easier to keep us there and begin a new war in Iran. Who do you think is to blame? The spinners or the people who were too lazy themselves to ask even a single question, WHY?

  • The news is afraid to speak out against the war because they were tho ones trumpeting the horns to get us into the war. They're timidly suggesting that the war was a problem. Left leanin my ass. There is no left in america. The democrats are voting for the Iran war resolution, at the same time they are saying Iraq was a mistake. Iraq was not a mistake, it was an unconstitutional menace, hijacked by a power crazed "conservative" tyrant. Since when do conservatives support war?

  • The media did not do it's "job" when it comes to Iraq. But neither did the American people, by re-electing Bush in 2004, not demanding more from it's media, not demanding more transparency from it's government and allowing themselves to be "dooped" by government prapoganda. I hope this is a lesson to all Americans....Oh who am I kidding, their eventually going to make the same mistakes all over again. LOL! There Americans! That's what they do! God bless them.

  • stand up to cancer

what the hell does that mean

  • We have to stand up and beat up cancer so he will stop.

    DUH.

  • DUH-

My point is that anything on the media is meaningless blather

  • Uh. I was replying to the "stand up to cancer, what the hell does that mean comment"

I was being sarcastic. Making fun of them.

  • they dont give a fuc about poor people oxay

they just care about their douche so called careers

    do our jobs

    that aint a job

  • for the guy who loves prime ministers questions

with the exception to robin coox, i didnt see people roll over tony blair, i didnt see people in his cabinet stand up to his ass

    it aint that tough

are you really scared of David Cameron

  • we are not owned, pal, we have youtube

    still hqd in america

70 percent of the time they post my stuff, no matter how inflammatory, sexist, insulting my comments are

so there is still plenty of free speech

there are just a lot of idiots out there, suxers who voted for Corporate-america douche-bushheads

  • american television journalism is a joxe

  • It is the job of Corporate Newsertainers to keep consumers fixated not to inform the voting citizen. These fact deficient corporate front people receive obscene paychecks to keep you buying from their advertisers. A real journalist would be cynical about ALL politicians and corporations and skeptical of ALL answers.. Asking tough, informative questions would be routine for a real journalist not something to pat their own backs about.

  • Brian & Charlie kid themselves. What's the role of a free press in a democracy? Journalists must dig to find truth, not take dictation like stenographers! Enough empty heads parroting anyone's list of talking points, spreading propaganda without challenging it.

Couric did it too, but I'm amazed she sees it now. Balls from Katie, who'd have thought? Better late than never. Let's get these collagen-lipped botoxed spokesmodels off CNN and reward tough honest investigative journalists.

  • The American media is so stitched up it's a joke. It is hilarious to hear yanks bang on about living in the most free and democratic country in the world. They need to step out for 5 minutes and have a look in from the outside. Then they might cotton on to how truly owned they really are.

  • Hey! We're so stupid, we can't understand why these countries we bomb back to the stone age, don't want to be "free" like us! It's sickening to watch these media shills piss backwards now that the great Iraqi oil grab has turned to shit.

  • At 2:35, "it is not our job to debate them, it is our job to ask questions."

It is incredible how soft headed you Americans are. Go watch Newsnight in the UK, or Prime Ministers Question Time. All the US politicians and media would fry. Debate is precisely what the media should do: always from the opposite angle to who is being interviewed. You cannot be accountable otherwise. And definitely, neither the politicians nor the media in your banana republic are.

  • Here in the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave" we have allowed the news media to be bought by the corporations who own our government. Sadly they owns yours too.

  • On the contrary: we have regulation for private stations, so all news must be impartial and accurate (the Communications Act 2003). Our main provider is the publicly owned BBC, which has 8 different free channels. And then there's Channel 4, part funded through ads, part through public money, and it's a charity. That leaves ITV, Channel 5 and Sky. The corporations don't own British TV at all. That's why it's so much better.

  • The media is owned by the Elites. They are told what they can and cannot say. If a story is written that doesn't meet their standard, they tweak and reword it fit their needs. 911, the war, etc. is all a sham. If you want the truth... the major media is NOT to place to find it. Do your own reseach people.

  • When you give no voice to the opposition to war, you effectively end the debate. I remember seeing a report talking about how there were over 100 reports drumming up support for the war, and only 2 reports examining why we shouldn't go to war. That's bias and yellow journalism at its worst. And if you look at the B.S. about Iran and the "success" of the surge, you see the MSM is still pounding the drums... I guess war's good for business.

  • i alwasy thought that the reporters werent allowed to their job the right way due to the threats from the administration, i mean c,mom its pretty naive to think that all these reporters dont have a soul, better jet or for the money,. when someone becomes a reporter its not for personal gains that much but its to inform the public about truthfull events. There will be other books about how GWB ran the nation, but until then we will have the media be a little more open to the public..

  • Hey, I thought he's dead already.

  • What a joke! The Mass Media has been part of the Bush plan from the beginning. The Corporate Elite Media only gave the American public what they, "the corporate elite", wanted us to here! Cherry picking evidence to fit the plan was exactly what the Mass Media did! Why? Because most media outlets are intertwined and interconnected to the Military Industrial Complex=GE! Going to War means Corporate Profits, including the MEDIA! When bullets and bombs run out, corporate media companies make more!

  • the truth is coming out

  • If katie feels that way, should could start asking the right questions NOW. People are still dying. Not to mention loosing limbs, killing, committing suicide...

  • Yeah, apparently suicide is WAY up. I heard a tidbit about this a little while ago.

  • they need to own up to what they did wrong

  • It is quite simple. The public support for the Iraq War had nothing to do with WMDs rather it had to do with the fact that the Administration exploited the 9/11 attacks to get people in this country to think that Iraq's government was linked to it and Al-Qaeda (even though anyone who looks at the facts could clearly tell that was not true). The media refused to just go out and say to people that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al-Qaeda and as a result we get the Iraq War.

  • Hearing these so called professional journalists whining about how they just simply couldn't do the job for which they are payed millions of dollars is pathetic. It is both funny and sad that when we needed these people the most, it turns out they actually have the journalistic skills of a brain damaged bassett hound

  • It like how they're playing pretend. They know it was all a fraud. Actually, all of those, like myself, who stood against this fraud were denounced as unAmericans. GTFOH! They all should land in jail for perjury and mass crimes against humanity. Phuck you all!

  • Sellouts. You're still not asking the right questions.

  • Charlie Gibson is such an asshole

  • i liked gibson on gma, and watched it only because of him. however, i know he's more conservative, but i have to agree with you outlaw, the fucking media did not do their job, and they don't do their job today. they are the voice of the american people, but because corporate america controls them, it's best not to upset government. the media lies too, to make money...and don't ever forget it!

  • They are talking like...the problem is over..we don't do that anymore!

They are bullshiting us right now as they speak! It's like being on air saying your bosses are making you lie...be your last paycheck! There's another replacement liar waiting to fill your shoes!

It's not going to change until we turn the channel!

  • how about listening to public radio and TURNING OFF YOUR T.V. FOREVER? I did, and it's been the best 10 years of my life.

  • I like public radio. I listen to WNYC and WBAI here in northern new jersey. However I don't think that all tv is bad. For instance the programs on PBS such as Frontline, Washington Week, etc... and C-Span's Washington Journal and gavel-to-gavel coverage of the legislative branch are quite informative. Though I agree that the major cable "news" networks MSNBC/Fox News/CNN all cover mostly pseudo Natalee Holloway type gossip news.

  • Hi,

After writing my reply, I realized, yes, some TV is okay. But tell me honestly how much you watch "good" tv...and how many other things you could be doing instead, volunteering, making art, working in your garden. the great thing about public radio is you can do all the above while listening, whereas TV is totally captivating. Don't you think? You could be right, but it seems to me like shutting of the TV is the only way. Would you let your kids watch TV growing up?

  • NYViolets: Right On!

I happened to see this segment in my hotel because the radio was broken, and I almost threw my coffee cup through the TV. These "journalists" are freaking wimps. Like McCellan, they are grasping for excuses. We did the best we could? Bull sh*t! If that is their best then they all should be fired.

All: NPR and the BBC is the only place to get real information. Turn the TV off and read a paper. Download a good movie if you want to see a pretty woman in the morning.

  • Access should not be in any way be related to how reporters do their job. This has been one of the many hateful ongoing tendencies of this administration, tying reporters' access to how favorable their coverage has been.

And the point was not whether or not news outlets caved to this pressure. This kind of pressure is wrong. The reaction from the media to any kind of threats of exclusion should be a unified "screw you!" and a redoubling of the line of questioning that caused the pressure.

  • Well at least they only lied about this war.

Would be a shame if they had didn't report on a corporation because they didn't want to lose sponsorship. Or if they worked for a parent company who lets say made jet engines that go in military planes and had an invested interest in more war, that would be shocking. I don't know if I could ever trust the news again, but that would never happen in the USA. Now, back to brittany.

  • they spent a minute forty making

    excuses excuses excuses

  • So the gauge they use for their own effectiveness is whether or not the phone rings? If one of Bush's henchmen calls, they dug deep enough, and if Bush says they're not being patriotic, they went too far? How about looking at the fargin' results and how far you were from getting to the truth? These wimps just gave themselves an A- on their work during the run-up to Iraq! That explains a lot about their repeating the same journalistic malfeasance on Bush's run-up to Iran - don't upset George.

  • Just watch them for entertainment NOT news...they are FAKE journalists.

  • Are they trying to pass the guilt off their shoulder on the American public? All I see is a weak argument: "we were pressure into lying we were afraid, we are press soldiers, we must do what we are told." Please!!!

  • The News Anchors are not the right ones to assess their own performance.

  • Three liars got togeather to ask each other if they thought they were real liars or not. What a joke, they are bought and paid for, by the way they do not provide news and the only questions they ever ask are the ones they are told to ask. Debt slavers lend money to the government so they can tax (steal) from us to insure we are kept not just in poverty but in debt slavery. Rothschild bankers stop destroying humanity.

  • Charlie Gibson is an IDIOT! Fire that douche! First the debate questions and now this. His head must be so far up his ass.

Couric is clueless! She'll be canned soon and nobody watches her anyway. Williams has potential.

  • what a joke.you couldn't find three worse people to ask a question about jouralism.Every press conference prior to going to Iraq was nothing but softball questions. They couldn't wait for the bombs to start dropping Iraq.

  • The press failed because they forgot about their responsibility. They became propagandists for the administration because their ratings would have hurt otherwise. Now they wish to obsolve themselves? Screw them.

  • would it have mattered NO. it wouldnt matter what we ask or said or thought or still think blah blah blah. its their show

  • Their all shills....

  • The Media Corp.WHORE!!!!The government corrupt, the DOLLAR in the tank,in criminal President!AMERICA is DONE.

  • these "Anchors",,BULLSHIT they act like leaders or Rock of Gibraltor Key untouchable Figureheads spewing facts which they feed to the low IQ Sheeple.. they are high pay puppets... Ever notice how similar and fake they are..

  • yes

  • well ron paul asked the tough questions in 2002 in front of congress..alone..the only man outide of dennis k. that actual defends our freedoms.its a major cop out to say we were scared and would be unpatriotic, yea sure saying the truth is always frowned upon.

    vote ron pual

  • dont ever believe what the main stream media tells you.

  • These people are such frauds, it sickens me. And now they're all hopping on the Iran bandwagon just as gleefully, like the scumbag lackies they are.

  • No media and you are doing it again with IRAN.

The leader of Iran didn't say wipe of the map. It was translated in a self serving way.

Lets see if you do that story. Didn't think so traitors.

  • sober up, and people mite understand a little better!

  • No, the Cable media failed us. We have other source's (internet, printed press) Thats why the ratings in cable news have been falling to record lows. Only the morons watch it for information.

  • when the american media asked a HARD question at the whitehouse ... it made world news ... the american press were way too soft and let people get away with murder .... better to look for in depth news on the internet

  • Does this show that Katie has nothing less to save in her own corporate career as a talkinghead?

  • Quite frankly, this is why I don't bother getting my news from these people anymore.

  • Ladies and gentelman you are witnessing the BIAS LIBERAL PRESS. They can all pick a finger. You make me SICK.

  • if they told you that then, why the hell didnt you report that and let it be known?

you are all a bunch of pussies!

the job of the news is to report what is happening and not what you feel like reporting.

  • What a joke. The press acts like they ask the tough question. The press is coporate America. Bush and corporate America are in bed with each other. The press let the American people down just like they are now during the elections. Rather than focus on things that really matter, the programs are filled with what Obama's preacher said and the like. It's a total joke and no one should call themselves a journalits by any stretch of the imagination.

  • Don't you guys remember how it was back then? The Bush administration linked Iraq to 9/11. ANY subject remotely questioning the use of force was pressed as unpatriotic. These people though reporters, are still Americans and didn't want to be seen as unpatriotic.

  • Which of those clowns actually told ANYONE what Benazir Bhutto said to David Frost on November 2nd, 2007 "the man who murdered Osama Bin Laden..." Nobody on Fox/CBS/ABC/NBC ever told you what the Oxford grad had said. They are LIARS, please see it...don't let the aspartame/fluoride/ritalin/etc turn you into an apathetic vegetable - wake the f#ck up pls!

  • DAMAGE CONTROL PIECE...Katie is trying to minimalize things...they are/were ALL propagandizing us & please don't let them con you into believing otherwise. Do your homework & there's no denying it...

  • The conservative media, of which all the major networks are a part, are also unindicted co-conspirators along with Cheney and his pet dog Bush. Whatever happened to the truth at all costs? That cost would have been at the hands of corporate scum indebted to the Repubes.

You get what you demand. You demand nothing you get nothing but lies and complicity.

  • So Brian Williams couldn't ask hard questions because he had "no proximity to WMD hunters"? What a pathetic excuse! How is it that hundreds of thousands of anti-war protesters who marched in January 2003 had proximity to the truth -- but only because they looked for it beyond White House press releases. Something YOU could have done, too, if you'd really cared, Brian.

  • "we didn't like the tone of that interview"

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • tools.

  • Whats up with all this patriotic talk...you don't attack a country because of patriotism, thats just stupid..oh well we are talking about the USA here.

  • Yeah, patriotism is being angry when someone says America is less-good that it was ten years ago, let alone a hundred... Just kidding, but lots of people see it as that and nothing more.

  • I get your point but if every country was as patriotic as the USA we would probably all be at at war in this world...simply put America needs to chill out!

  • I half agree, but I don't think very many Americans are truly patriotic. I like what we stand for on paper, but we (the government) sure don't practice it. :(

  • sheesh cant the news people choose a better word than 'scathing'?

  • LMAO Yeah, ya really can't say "scathing" more than once with any credibility.

  • In the McCain ad at top right of this page--it looks like he's wearing a yamulka

  • sure get tired of this bullshit!!!

Katie almost let the cat out of the bag...

they were so quick to point out..oh,but we never gave in....!

To be fair..these are only actors...the real news people of the past are gone!

No credibility here..the so-called smart people are in charge who know how to market and falsly inform it's public.

    Thank god for the internet!

    otherwise it's...that's the way it is..or shut-up!!!!

  • Never trust these damned vampires...they still have their outrageous salaries

  • WHAT A TOOL Williams is. Did you ask the right questions? YES, in service to your boss & your job you did. You greased the wheels for war which was a ratings bonanza for your network, as well as a great waterfall of profit for parent corp GE & their MIC weapons manufacturing divisions.

DId you ask the right questions as a journalist? No. But how would YOU know anyway. You were assigned a role of "gravitas" anchor without having any whatsoever.

Right questions for citizens? you lying weasel

  • They caved in to the powers they should have questioned because they had to please their masters.

  • FUCK Patriotics!! That's redneck talk...

  • who do these clowns think they are kidding? they are corrupt miscreants... they suppressed all info contrary to war. these idiots need to be making the donuts.

  • Main stream media let the people down because they are employed by corporations running our government....you have to get your news from independents and overseas to hear the truth!

  • Answer: Of course you didn't, you fuck. And you're not asking the right questions now. Probably because you work for the same companies that make tanks and bombs for the military.

  • charles gibson? The biggest tool for the administration...yeah right...he is full of it.

  • Why does the government call reporters to express their distain for the questions they are asked? It is our job to judge the job the media does not the government.

  • Democtatic country hey , did you s vote the democrats into the house etc to stop the war . And what the war is still going , pathetic realy . land of the free and home of the brave is all crap .

  • These coward people.hmmm they all waited till Scott spilled it out . then now we hear all these kinda Bull From them . where were u from the beginning .....Bastard

  • what program was this from?

  • their survival skills are amazing, cockroaches have nothing on these guys.

  • Scott's reason for his truthful fourth coming is to prevent futher such mass mistakes.

I mean we all can already see how Bush, Dick, Karl Rove, and Fox News are trying to make a case for justification in the invasion of North Korea and Iran in a declaration of war on both of this countries.

But just maybe this contribution of his...

by bravely come forward with his testament will help to prevent another government blunder.

  • Accomplices to genocide...

  • These mother fuckers knew exactly what they were doing... the are complicit! Accessories to crime against humanity, merely to boost ratings and ad revenues.

  • AT LEAST KATY acknowledges a lacking watchdog

CHARLIE is an out of touch IDIOT

    Bryan --- institutional party liner

  • ABC News = all face, no substance...plus, they have the most bullshit show in America in Good Morning America. How about some actual news, clowns?

  • If the administration put pressure on you in order to influence your reporting, not only should have withstood the pressure but you should immediately have reported about the pressure coming from the administration!

  • Once again Charlie Gibson proves why ABC news is the most anemic and useless news organization out there..ABC news is transforming into FOX news

  • how much did Matt get paid for each time he used the word "scathing" trying to set a mindset re the issue

good to see Katie trying to speak out about some things that happened in HER own corner

regardless of why, glad Katie got in the point about if one was speaking "against" admin decisions, they were/are labeled as being "unpatriotic"

Most questions are predetermined and decided by those that own the news as it is.

    Thx for the clip.

  • And now most news outlets are rolling over, playing passive over the possibility of going into Iran.

  • mykalroze - yes .. so will they get off their backs and start asking those "unpolitically correct" questions while there is time?

  • um.. how 'bout this:

"Tonight we report on the White house strong-arming us into reporting only that which they approve. In no uncertain terms we were told that we should alter our "tone" or we will be denied access during the war. We feel it is our duty to report the news as we see it, without being bullied by the present administration. To succumb to such pressure is counter to our mission and would be a great disservice to the American people."

    cowardly turds...

  • I remember when journalism was a noble profession. Reporters were cynical about all politicians and corporations and skeptical of all answers. The majority of them were poor but honest seekers of truth. Facts were facts and they were not fair, balanced, liberal or conservative. The debate was about the facts and how they affect citizens. Sure, opinions were expressed and sides taken but they were identified and filed as such.

  • JFK said it was up to the media the fourth branch to report on the gov. and they helped cover up who really killed him

when 98% of the media is owned by four zionist isrealies and the dept of homeland security is headed by a zionist isreali whose family were the original modern terrorits do you think these talking heads are going to be patriots or traitors?

  • Hey Gibson, it was your job to be fair, to dig for facts, to discover, and report the truth. Just asking questions and accepting the talking point answers, is not enough. Tool

  • Yeah, whatever Gibson, there weren't even any tough questions asked. True journalists on TV last showed their face back in the '80s.

  • russert has been asking tough q's

  • Their job is to ask the toughest of questions. To say that he wouldn't have asked tougher questions means that he is a horrible reporter. Jon Stewart back then was making jokes daily at how the MSM was ignoring the tough issues... so they HAD to know. Yes they cowed to keep their jobs... some spoke out and lost theirs. To deny now is a bigger shame as they should correct the wrongs and clean up the industry. Scott called them out and they should tell all.

  • You want proof that they could have been tougher? Knight Ridder Newspapers, which since merged with McClatchy, was all over it. Google it. Walter Pincus at the Post was right on, even if the rest of his paper wasn't always.

  • I'm so tired of the excuse, "it was a post 9/11 mindset" or other such drivel. The media are supposed to be objective and manage their emotions about what they're covering. Whoever used those excuses in this video was basically saying "we were just too emotional. It's not our fault."

  • Bullshit, they gave into it.

  • McCleallan and his book are a joke, tell me something I do not know, no WMDs found in Iraq, Valerie Plame, Hurricane Katrina. McClellan is just a weasel looking to cash in with his book deal, and liberals are running wild with this garbage that is a load of crap that cites no evidence.

  • why is it garbage? He is just citing what everyone already knows....like you just said...freedom of press, it what makes this country great.

  • The fact is that McClellan's book doesn't have anything in it. It is not really derogatory and makes no important new revelations. It says Bush was negligent on Katrina. So that's news? That he used "propaganda" to convince us to invade Iraq -- well, what was the Gettysburg address but propaganda to encourage us in wartime. That's what a president is supposed to do.

  • And it says that Karl Rove and Libby conspired to conform their testimony in the Valerie Plane affair. Who cares? This is a scandal that shouldn't ever have happened. The special prosecutor revealed that no crime was committed when her name was leaked because the guy who leaked it didn't know she was handling covert material. And the guy who was convicted — Libby — wasn't the guy who leaked it.

  • The Bush Administration is crazy for mounting so vigorous a defense to the McClellan book, talking about what an ungrateful sleaze he is and asking how he could possibly do this to W. All this publicity is just helping book sales and leaving the average person with the impression that a top Bush official wrote a tell all book saying that Bush was a phony on the war in Iraq.

  • I guess Rush Limbaugh was right. His audience doesn't have to think. He'll do the thinking for both. And he has half his brain tied behind his back. Oh, you wingnuts are so mindless, how do you survive?

  • Where to begin? I do not listen to Limbaugh, so I've just contradicted your entire pointless rambling statement. Second, what I have presented is completely true, if you do not believe me present the facts, otherwise do not comment.

  • TheKiller- What are you ranting about? I never said you listen to Limbo.! Shirley, you jest.

  • You're not making any sense at all.

  • damage control hoooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • Not forgiving these media wanks nor accusing them of 'complicity', however, these are all 'multi-million dollar talking-heads'. There vast salaries come from Broadcast Network businesses. These giants require advertising dollars to stay on air and pay giant salaries. The big advertising bucks come from big business. To harm these lobbying corps would cut off advert. dollars. The networks have to walk a tight line in that vicious circle. Money runs the system, not truth.

  • Oh, btw, so much for those "liberal media" that the wingnuts are always whining about. LOL

  • wimps

the contrary side to the presidents propaganda drive was not given equal time. There lacked balance. These anchors are skipping out on accepting accountability. Here, Katie (weakly) tried to carry some accountability then bowed out on holding her ground

  • Gibson, what an asshole.

  • Awe, those poor tv "journalists". We should give em a hug. Sure they didn't do their job one bit but its oka cause they were STRONGARMED. I mean come on, we've all been in the same situation in kindergarten, remember?

Thankfully for them this will all blow over in the next thirty seconds and its back to squirrels on water skis. Nobody in a suit pays for their crimes. Especially if they get ratings.

  • The media IS complicit with Bush's illegitmate war. They were as spineless & bullied as Congress. Very few journalists showed a backbone, while the vast majority were intimidated, their patriotism always on the table, fawning & empowering the emperor with no clothes Bush.

  • good

  • lol, the press discussing the criticism leveled @ them pre- Iraq war....kinda like a criminal talking about how he did nothing wrong when faced with the crimes he committed.

Today's American media are not about journalism and investigative watchdog of our democracy....rather they are the mouthpiece of our government whomever party happen 2 be running the country....which is no better than state run media in a dictatorship!

  • No americans should be trespassing in Iraq unless they are invited by the Iraq people. Why do repubicans feel it proper course to invade, intrude, kill, and destroy yet maintain to be holy, righteous, and God fearing people?

  • When Katie Couric is your best voice about what the media did wrong, you know you're in a bad place. But of course none of them are admitting they screwed up and didn't do their jobs. But we the American people actually can remember and look at the articles, remember the newscasts and those banners and everything else, basically having the news be unquestioning disseminators of the Dubya adminstrations talking points. They should all be very ashamed, they let the American people down.

  • Is the media's stranglehold on truth finally coming to an end? This is great. I want to see how this unfolds.

  • Great!! The media is now debating itself on rather their coverage was amiss.

What next? Letting abusive husband debate the effect of domestic violence on the community?

This is patheticly sad and a cop-out on the actual solution to this mess.

  • it's better than nothing though ...

actually much better than I'd personally expect ...

  • I never realized what a big man Charlie Gibson is. It's about time media sits down and start looking at ways to do things better. We're all in this together, and I myself am ready to move forward.

  • Bunch of cowardly lap dogs. What we have known all along has finally come out that the media is just a propaganda machine and McClelland's book proves it. Now they're all crying like a bunch of little bitches.

FUCK YOU CORPORATE MEDIA! IT'S TOO LATE NOW! THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!

  • Impea
