aged care is a mess, the good carers are faced with a constant choice either suffer financial stress and stay in the field or leave and work at Coles because you can earn more at Coles than in aged care hence most have opted out of the field. when are aged care facility's going to put the money up to attract the right workers
what the hell is the nurses Federation, can the health workers union doing about the under payment of AIN;S? You see the the EBA being produced at the moment giving a lousy 3% or 4% pay rises to the lowest paid direct care nurses the AIN;S who's base pay is 16 and $17 an hour.what's a lousy 3% on $16 an hour, the union should be ashamed of themselves. They seem to be only concentrating on the high-end scale employees, if you're a junior doctor four per cent pay rise on $55 an hour is
$55 an hour is nothing to be sneezed at, I was reading an article recently in the local paper where the doctors were complaining that they weren't getting paid enough to visit elderly people in aged care facilities, like hell, the AIN'S don't even receive a living wage .unfortunately there's nobody out there, within the union movement or anywhere else advocating for ain's it's time that we made our own union, to fight for better wages and conditions, just imagine we stop work, the aged care
I wonder if the real Julia Gillard would show herself on this question, of course the Labor Party,is a bloody joke, populated by the scum of the lower middle class, who are only looking out for themselves. why doesn't Julia Gillard, Penny Wong, Peter Garrett, and those other ALP luminaries spend five minutes in a aged care facility, they can smell the piss, and taste the bland food , deal with the mess and the vomit, and do it all in front of the cameras on 60 minutes.let's see their reaction
they don't need to spend billions of dollars, on pink bats, more billions on and overpriced facilities for schools etc, and relatively nothing of looking after the most vulnerable portion of our population.
The government must start in recognizing the contributions of the staff for aged care facilities and pay them appropriately, the pay at the moment is a joke, and yet the only time you see publicity about pay in aged care facilities, it's about paying doctors more to attend to the aged, and
@Caydn I don't thinkit's a legitimate point you're making, euthanasia is only for patients who can make their own decisions, not for any one who is disabled mentally.
Aged care can be improved if we have the AIN 'S paid appropriately, and given a career path, the health system is using AIN S as the labourers in the aged care facilities, just like they would use labourers in the construction site. We are the lowest paid people, but we are responsible for direct care
@boruone77 I never said to make it compulsory I just said there is no way I would want to end up in a home and I would want the right to legally end my life heck I will anyway even if they dont legalize it , all my trainers ( registered nurses ) and all the people I worked with that I discussed this with were pro euthansia supporters and did not wish to be in a home.
@Caydn age care facilities in Australia are a total and utter disgrace, understaffed under resourced, and neglected by the State and Federal governments. I heard recently that Gough Whitlam has been put into an aged care facility, I bet you there won't be a smell of faeces and piss when you walk in off the street to visit. Most of these aged care facilities in Australia smell terribly bad which leads to a great number of visitors refusing to visit their aged parents. They don't need to spend
@Caydnso you think it's a waste of money? what would you like to see, brigades of SS doctors running around with lethal needles in their kick bags? Of course not. Workers in Australia are the lowest paid all the English-speaking countries outside of America. When you look at the womenfolk who can live to 90 or hundred years of age they can outlive even their own children, they will be left with no one to care for them. We have an obligation as a Christian society to look after the defenceless
the defenceless members of our society, the old, the young and disabled this is the key stone of our civilisation. If there is no want to look after the elderly in our society then it is up to every taxpayer to fork out as much as needed to provide a safe and comfortable accommodation for those persons who are too old to look after themselves. We should not take their lives away because they are inconvenient, you should love them as if they were our own parents.
@Caydn , outdated Christian society views, really? What would you have us replace them with, maybe the views of the Nazi S. S.? The funny thing about gutter intellectuals like you, is that you know what to destroy, but you don't know what to replace it with. Why don't we replace everything with just the free market, that would be a great idea. Get rid of morals and ethics, humanism, and let's base our health system on how much money you have in your back pocket.
@boruone77 O please must you be so melodramatic thats the second time you bring up the S.S unlike you I live in the real world and having worked in aged care I choose the right to end my life rather then live in a aged care facility wasting away mentally and physicallyand yes your views are outdated as most australians have the same views as me champ.
@Caydn this is the second time I bring up the SS?I made one mention of the SS in regards to your comments about eugenics.your opinions are a disgrace. Advocating euthanasia for everybody, except yourself when you get decrepit and old, you'll be hanging on to dear life, screaming out like a stuck pig, for one more minute one more second, the elderly are worth every cent we spend on them. And we must continue to spend money on them, so long as they live comfortably. Or maybe you're watching
@boruone77 O please look on page 2 and your will see your other SS comment o mental midget and please point to where I have posted that I dont advocate euthanaisa for myself dont make up lies its rather tiresome and pathetic and where do I mention eugenics another delusion of yours , its sad you need to lie on youtube to make yourself look important :(
@Caydn I can't believe that a so-called educated person would advocate euthanasia, to destroy the greatest generation. The people who fought WW 2, lived through the great Depression and gave birth to the baby boomer generation.even through the 70 odd years of Soviet communism they never advocated euthanasia, and here we are in a rich society advocating the legalised murder of elderly hero's. Australia is the third richest country in the world. We should do better
@boruone77 Ive worked in aged care and I have family in aged care and I fully intend to end my life rather then go into aged care, and please don't play some high moral ground card it doesnt suit you.
@Caydn or maybe you're watching Charlton Heston, in that science-fiction movie solvent green, if you haven't seen it I recommended it to you.you will see your own opinions come to life, in a world where human beings have no value, like Julia Gillard who declared to everybody that she believes in nothing. Much the same as you.
I went to a job interview recently as a cert IV AIN in aged care,to a facility that was run and operated by one of the big health insurance companies,I had to take the day off work to go to the interview, the advert did not specify a rate of pay. After two hours of interrogation finally the DON mentioned the pay ,$18 an hour-do you believe it a girl standing behind the counter at Cole's gets $23 an hour, $18 an hour for a cert. 4 is a joke.and yet these people can tell it to you with a poker face
we need to get the nurses who directly assist the aged , they called them AIN nurses, a massive pay rise currently they earned around 16 or $17 an hour, in Sydney poverty wage. They are supervised by a registered nurse who may be responsible for up to 12 AIN'S. Mainly young Asian or African girls with very limited qualifications, doing the hard yakka, showering, toilets, cleaning up after toilet'\, extremely unpleasant work. For a lousy $17 an hour.
@boruone77 I agree. $16 an hour is way too underpaid for the kind of work they do. I just finished an AIN course in preparation to go onto enrolled nursing. I will be working as an AIN but not looking forward to slaving away for a shitty wage. I'm basically doing it for the experience.
