  • best pizza crust mix so far is "cause you're special brand" really get the oven preheated HOT to do your own pizza, and load on toppings after the crust is done, then do it topped for a few minutes. also GF bisquick has a pizza recipe at their site....learn to do the waffles and pizzas and salads and people will come to your house even if they do not need GF menu.

  • it's an auto immune disease.. not an intestinal only disease..

  • i heard it was an intolerance to wheat. barley. and rye. Can you eat oatmeal or is that out also?

  • @buraburayoshi it depends. I have celiac disease, and alot of oats are out of the question because they're processed on the same things as other items that contain gluten are. it's best not to eat them in my opinion.

  • @courtleex Bob's Redmill sells certified Gluten Free oats these days! If they aren't being carried by your local health food store, you can have the store order them for you :)

  • @ZeldaPhan after decades of pain with each meal, I love GF diet. ate oats again it was like cement in my gut for a day.....also neurology better, skin better, gut better, I would never go back, but it took about six months to figure out the recipes. also carrot juice was nice to get extra nutrition.

  • Respond to this video... one thing is nice is popcorn and a movie....my idea of a GF day. and half a cup sour cream in that GF brownie mix rocks. the GF bisquick makes a great waffle, wish the mixes were not more expensive.

  • Respond to this video... suggest a taco place that is GF too.

  • Respond to this video... I was very happy with a $29 waffle iron and that GF bisquick, now they want to come to MY house for them, even if pals are not on GF diet plan.

  • @buraburayoshi best is popcorn, tacos, rice at chinese restaurant with oh, steak...and baked potato....it takes time to adjust the menu....actually I get better nutrition now, as I have to plan more.

  • People with celiac have different symptoms, liek I could be haveing HORREBLE stomach aches and my friend can have just rashes. It kinda depends on the person (me personaly I get both) But thanks for makign this video, you seem pretty young and almost every vid on celiac is made by some1 who is married with kids. SO thanks! :D

  • when you eat gluten with celiac disease it makes your small intestines inflamed, that's what causes the damage.

and your intestines take months or even years to heal.

    :)

    :)

  • YOU ARE WRONG!

CHECK OUT MY VIDEO ABOUT CELIAC.

  • @dmiller109 Rather than spamming my comments and my video response inbox with your video I should watch to prove to me why I'm wrong, you could try telling me in a simple comment. This comment makes you look very silly, especially after you've gone through all the trouble of contacting me in virtually every way you can on youtube.

  • @ZeldaPhan 1. I already had my video uploaded.

    2. You are bitchy anyway, with your "I'm better than everyone" type of attitude.

    3. I didn't mean anything in a bad way, it is you who interpreted it wrong.

    4. Just watch it, it will educate you a little about the disease you have.

  • @ZeldaPhan I'm sorry it's just I don't like to type so much. I commented in verbal words. I hope you learned from my video, we are all on the same boat! :)

  • @dmiller109 Wrong about what? Wrong about her own experience? I have the disease. My symptoms are not just related to my intestines though. I also get a rash, eye problems, major sinus mucus problems and more. Things go well when I avoid it, but when it gets it my system it totally screws me up. I become anemic and worse. I basically start wasting away.

  • @dmiller109 p.s. I'm not attacking you as a person. Just saying it would be more helpful if you mentioned WHY you believe she is wrong. It would be more informative, but I understand you cant' cover everything in one of these character limited text comments. I feel for you if you too have this illness. I'll check out your vid. Love and peace.

  • I have Celiac Disease. I've had it since i was born, and wow! The food has gotten so much better than it was say...7 years ago. I glad that finally Celiac is making the news, and people are learning about it.

  • @itsmejustme100 yes, it is neat, even this cheap cafeteria near me had chocolate fountain and coconut macaroons, banana and rice krispy treats for desert, even Golden Coral got the GF diet memo for their chefs....also get a waffle iron it is fun, lots of pancake mixes to do waffles with.

  • C-liac! with an E

  • I agree! I just got told I have Celiac and alot or my friends are making fun of me about it. Its hard enough to do a complete life change in my 20s, but if you push it in my face its a hell of alot harder. People please dont push or pick on people with this prob, again its hard enough as is we dont need everyone to put their bad 2 cents in.

  • One of the most important thing for a person to do before starting the gluten free diet, is to make sure you get tested first.

I was on gluten free for 13 years due to misdiagnosis. The doc did not send in the test for the right test... I got ill and malnourished, now have trouble with corn, rice and sometimes soy. Please get tested before and make sure od the results too. When I was diagnosed not many knew what celiac was and gluten free food was hard to find premade that is...

  • lol from now on i'm making everyone i hang out with watch this

  • @erikchicom I'm glad you realized the truth which will turn around your life :) I suffered for around 3 years myself before being diagnosed, even though my relatives are doctors. now it turns out on of my aunts has it too. And so does my friend, so each day, a new person is diagnosed. Keep in mind your relatives might have it. About doctors, they will change , some even turn out to have it themselves, so they learn more about it too but not all of them unfortunately.

  • A polite way to explain what gluten does when you eat it:

"I don't like its exit strategy."

    Works for me.

  • Keep up the great work! Get the word out. Fellow celiac, chris.

  • you look so like Katie Holmes :o

  • I'm gonna go ahead and phrase everything as a question. This is unwatchable.

  • <3 I have it too. I made a boo boo last night.. ate something I shouldn't have. But I feel ok. it was my third mistake since daignosed in 2008... I was so upset last night. Have you made any errors? Thanks.. great vid.

  • thanks for posting! good to put it out there.

  • good thing you can get carrot sticks in the US :)

I know, people say; this is so good about pizza or something in front of us, that is so rude.

  • no, its not intestinal only. In celiac disease, skin may develop a rash, you can get anemia, and your joints may hurt.

  • @satrapy27 shit i have that. i have a rash on my arms and my joints hurt. is the rash reversavel. i suffer with this for about three years and recently stop eating gluttens. today my stomach feels so much better is a night and day diference i can believe it. i was diagnose irritable bowel syndrome the doctors were wrong and i suffered for three years.'idiots"

  • I wish there'd been more info available before my grandma lost the battle with it.

I'm hoping I caught mine in time. Been healthy for over a month now, and I never thought that was possible.

  • Celiac unite: A Million Against Celiac Disease group on FaceBook.

  • I fellow the gulten free diet . but My Dad dose not fellow the gulten free diet his blood test came 100% for celiac but tell himself dose not have celiac beause he dose not get sick when he eat gulten. I told My Dad he should eat gluten free But he dose not listen to Me still eat wheat any way .

  • @Josephsf1983 same with my mom! mine was 95% and i think from my moms symptoms she might have it but she can't be bothered.

  • I was diagnosis celiac disease back in 2005 I was 22 year old and My Dad just got diagnosis with celiac disease last monday and he 51 years old.

  • im gluten free i got it like a few months ago but i break out in red rashy itchy spots its annoying when my friends go h8 that its got annoying

  • Actually despookyhhr you do NOT have to have the gene, maybe you should research a little more. You can develop it throughout your lifetime. You do not have to be born with the gene. I have been diagnosed through biopsy, and they did not have to do the gene test, and none of my parents have it or anyone else in my family. I had developed it and I have seen pictures of my intestines, and my TTG level was 208 when the normal is 20 or below. So don't be so smart when you are really not...

  • i have it too

  • I'm gluten free too. Rock on, stay strong.

  • I have celiac 2.

your video is great but a lot of your information is incorrect.

    1. it does not only affect the intestines, it affects the entire body because of teh malnourishment

    2. it doesn't affect your intestines for just a week, the damage from eating a small portion of gluten takes about 6 months to heal.

  • I have a particularly mild case, so i only "feel" horrible for about a week. I know that the damage is a lot worse though!

thanks for letting me know about the inconsistencies in my information! That's how you learn after all :D

  • @ZeldaPhan do you have to be careful of what your boyfriend/husband eats?i mean,if u kiss him after he has eaten something with gluten would you feel sick?

  • @ZeldaPhan - it destroys the villi in the small intestines, it can cause a number of problems, including cancer-affecting any organ, so I really hope when there's nothing else to eat, you really don't go for that piece of bread. It's not worth having a little gluten ever.

I can't believe people would eat pizza like that infront of you. They are not worthy of your friendship. True friends are not so mean!!!!

  • I don't understand why you would eat gluten because it was the only thing available... I'm not trying to trash you but like I don't know if you realize that even that will harm you.

  • I wouldn't eat gluten if it was the only thing there. I've never actually done that. I meant that if i was going to pass out from hunger and all that was there had gluten in it, then yeah i would eat it. A worst case scenario kind of thing.

Obviously i know that it would be a REALLY stupid thing to do though.

  • i just found out, like, 3 weeks ago that i have celiac diesase. since u have probably had it longer than me, i kind of need some advice about what i can eat. like, do u get ur food online or offline? what do u think is the best place to shop for gluten free food?

  • Oh and if I eat gluten my stomache will REALLY hurt, and I will have a really hard time breathing. But my intestines r JUST starting to heal, and so school is in a week and I am going to have a lot of trouble with my stomache again. The school will provide me with a gluten free lunch, but it just wont be the same. What happens to u if u consume gluten?

  • I'll send you a private message so we can talk a little, sound good? I'll answer any question you have :D

  • Thank you. I should totally forward this to all of my friends :D.

  • Who the fuck cares if i have this gene or not!? I feel better being gluten free, and that's all that really matters. You're being EXTREMELY arrogant, and quite a bit of an asshole. I reckon you should stop acting as though you're a "True Celiac" and that I'm a "faker", as your only favorited video seems to claim I am.

  • It can be triggered by a lot of things. It honestly has not been studied that thoroughly for any one to know for sure. All I know is that i feel much better not eating gluten and that's all I really care about

  • hey. I have celiac disease also, and I'm pretty sure you get the same symptoms as me. Its discusting. yuck.

  • Don't offer them ANYTHING! LOL

    Enjoy your gluten free pasta!

  • I'm allergic too. Except I get migraines and my digestive system and small intestines get messed up. Yeah i know what you mean some people annoy the hell out of me about it.

  • Thanks for sharing Hilary.

  • My neighbor has that disease, and she brought me to a natural foods store where she gets most of her groceries. I bought organic coffee & tea :-)

  • Is celiac disease a more modern ailment? It seems like there's been a lot of development of gluten-free products in recent years.

  • you must be so fed up of cider

  • What can you actually eat?

  • lol, the tweet about not being sunburned makes more sense now. darn cameras/lighting.

nice gluten FAQ info. not sure if I know any friends w/ Celiac's but now I know, just in case. thanks hilary!

  • It's always good to hear about awareness about any disease :) Good video ^^

Btw, have you tried to get some day light color light bulb? I tried using that with my small desk lamp with the sorta flexible neck, works great and you can always get the brightness down with video editing software afterward.

The light might be a bit intense at first, but you get use to it, and it gives a really nice lightning for your videos.

    that's all! cya take care!

    ~Jhon

  • OMG! Are you like, sunburned or something??? You like, look like a lobster or something. Like, you seriously need some lotion girl.

Lol, jk Hilary. You don't have to be sun burnt if you don't want to be.

  • Haha thanks Adam :P

  • sorry if this sounds rude but...

If you really liked say, pizza, could you just chew it then spit it out?

seriously i'm serious, because i'd miss pizza

  • I've actually totally tried that before. Well, it was more of an accident. I had started to eat a wasabi peanut and before i swallowed it I checked the ingredients and sure enough there was wheat in it. So i basically rushed to spit it out and flush my mouth out with water to make sure that I didn't actually eat any of it. It's not the best idea though. Besides there are places where i can get GF pizza, or I can make it at home.

  • i never knew that celiac disease existed until i watched your awareness video...i have been doing research and have learned alot! jess

  • way to go!

  • 2:08 lol at how she says PAASTA LOL

  • I have Crohn's Disease...so I know all about my intestinal track. The things I can and cannot eat.The surgeries I had,the number of hospital stays.I am ok for now,but I still have to be very careful at what I do and what I eat.

  • I have Crohn's too, although right now I still don't have too much of an idea of what affects me and what doesn't. I stay away from anything spicy, and anything with a lot of nuts/seeds in it. I've only been diagnosed a year and a bit, so I'm still testing things out.

Anyway, glad to hear that you're okay at the moment - I hope it lasts for a long time to come!

  • yeah, i thought so...

  • I have done the worst faux-pas and offered my celiac friend bread. In my defense it was 1am and we'd just been to a concert so I was way out of it but I felt really bad and was apologising for the rest of the night/morning.

My friend still gets frustrated about the whole deal but she's very gracious and barely ever complains.

Good on you for the raising of awareness.

  • p.s. your dos and donts sound very much like jareds vegetarian dos and donts, its all about courtesy for sure ^.^

  • did you get a killer sunburn or do you have a pink lamp shade?

  • ...no Korbe.... The lighting came out weird because it was light outside, but my shades were closed, so the camera changed it's lighting. I need to change some setting on it.

  • Totally know where you're coming from... I have some fairly harsh childhood memories of people with no courtesy.

The word "disease" seems to inspire any sort of person to instantly become an asshole.

  • You go girl! Hey and actually I learned today that combining flour and beer creates gluten... or something like that, I don't remember exactly. It was on some cooking show and the lady was making a beer batter to fry up some clams.

  • well, there's gluten in beer all ready because it's made out of barley and malt.

  • Oh I see. I thought she was saying that the reaction of the wheat and the beer together like glutenized the mixture or whatever, lol.

  • Hmm....

Wow, is celiacs contageous at all?

  • Negative on that one, I'm pretty sure it's something you're born with

  • No its not contageous.

It's 10% hereditary and you are either born with it or you grow into it, almost like Lactose intolerant.

  • No it's not. It's thought to be a genetic disease, but it hasn't been studied thoroughly enough to be certain. What they are certain of is that it is not contagious in the slightest.

  • lyk omgsh can u eet pasta on camra?

    <333

  • Hilary's purple! *gasp* :P

Eh, food isn't the meaning of life or anything. Although it must be annoying, your life doesnt 'suck' like MapleMaster's comment claims.

And your still beyond cool anyways :P

    Good video though.

    <3

  • lol your life sucks pizza, pasta and cake ia all i eat

  • See, that's exactly the kind of comment I SEVERELY dislike, and why I think people should take time to learn more about it. My life does not "suck" in the slightest. I have alternative choices at restaurants or at home all the time. I had pasta for lunch today even

  • ya know, as much as that sux, it seems to keep you in shape, so if there were a bright side, that would be it :-)

  • i was watching tyra and she had this person on the show talking about relationships and she look like you.

  • Great video. You dodn't come across as a jerk at all.

  • love the way americans pronounce pasta lol, you empathize the past more than us brits. be proud of that :D lol

  • yaaaaay hilary!

  • Yuck, my stomach does the same things when I eat bread/pasta. I should see if I have it. lol

When all of us nerdfightastics get together someday, let me know and I'll find some gluten free places for us to eat. :)

  • I have a student who has Celiac disease, and I always have to be careful about what I buy for any sort of reward or party. I was actually really surprised at how many well-known products are gluten free, but it's still nerve-wracking to buy food and then hope I, and the list I have, got it right.

  • wait do u get cake for your bday?

  • Yes! I ordered a cake from a Gluten Free Bakery for my birthday and it was delicious. Last year I made my own and it was amazing.

  • ok sweet, so is there just one company that does all gluten free stuff?

  • Well i'm sure that there are other places that do the same thing, but this bakery only makes gluten free things. You can buy gluten free things at health food stores and some grocery stores too though

  • That sounds terribly painful. Never, ever eat Gluten. Spare yourself the pain. And yes, you are exceptionally pink today.

  • Well sometimes you can't help it because things are mislabeled or something gets contaminated. It's a bit of a chore

  • So like...where do you buy food? I don't see much gluten-free stuff around here except for Whole Foods Market.

  • Lol that is where I get all my food. There are some products hidden among the regular food at safeway too though.

  • You are quite pink!

Thanks for the video, by the way. People need to be more polite.

  • Yeah my lighting came out weird this time around, I really couldn't tell you why. XD

  • I want to see you eat more oddly flavored Jelly Beans!!! Disgusting for you but hilarious for us!!!

    Great Vid though and DFTBA...

  • Learned about the basics of Coaeliac disease in Biology 12 when we were learning about the small intestines. I didn't know you had it. Thanks for the insight though.
