  • It is a very informative film.

  • Cool! Thanks so much, I've always had a good idea about what cards are for but never knew what the combs are for. (When I was a wee girl I used to pretend to card any sort of fiber I found on spiky velcro tabs) lol Always loved textile arts. :)

  • Hi Bill, Laurel and Travis, I know that I haven't been in for a while, I have had a hard time getting back in the swing of things after loosing my Dad, but I am so tickled that you have such great little demos on youtube, I have missed coming in to see you guys, I wouldn't go to any other fiber store, you guys are great and carry anything and everything a spinner needs to enjoy this wonderful hobby, thank you so much, your friend, Beth

  • We are new to sheep and wool and did NOT keep our sheep very clean so there is a lot of hay in the wool even after it's been washed. Would you recommend I comb the wool first to get the hay bits out and then card? Or can I still card it and pick the bits out in the carding? GREAT video btw!

  • hi Im watching you comb and the fleece is long, when i do mine its short maybe 4 inches. The fleece is from a southdown baby doll. Thanks nelson.

  • Thank you so much for this informative video! I'm thinking of acquiring combs to process some of especially long mohair. Now I know how to use them!

  • Great video. I never knew about the combs. I have been buying from Paradise for about a year and love their wool. Great products and great pricing!

Sexist...Geesh give me break & chill out a little. All this PC crap is really boring!

  • Thanks for the video! I'm a beginner and this sure came in handy for information on 'raw' fiber vs carded. It can all be a bit confusing till you learn the lingo.

    Thanks again!!!

  • This was brilliant! I learned so much from this! I am a "felter" that had always purchased wool roving done and ready to go. I was given some bags of Alpaca fleece and wasn't sure how best to go about making a roving out of it. Now I understand! BTW, your Dad is a hoot! I totally picked up from the start that he was a 'card' and I bet he's the life of the party too! Thanks again!

  • Fantastic. Full of useful information and funny too.

    Thanks

  • "Dad" I wasn't offended by your words. Corny yes but I'm a but more tough in the skin about words. Those that are bothered should really learn to not take everything to heart. Let go.

Anyway, I really do like that tool that holds one comb while you work through the tough stuff. As a heavy computer user as well as knitter/crocheter I'd appreciate it something to help when I start my path to spinning. Looks like fun too! :D

  • great video ! It has taken me so long to find the information and you gave me exactly what I needed.

  • hi i like this vid--thanks for showing it

  • Ahhh...why can't people just enjoy the benefit of the information and just let the other stuff go??? Thank you for sharing!

  • oh, he's just an old man... it's just a generational thing. who cares if what he's saying is sexist? it's not like he's some cross burning neo-nazi.

  • People ought to relax. I am a woman with "weak" hands due to some nerve damage. I am grateful that there is an option for me to participate in something that I love. I have watched many videos from Paradise Fibres and find them very informational, especially anything about Lendrum wheels, as they do not come with any instructions. Thank you and keep the information flowing.

  • Thanks Dad for sharing your time with us about the combs, many of us already know about combs and how they work but for those who don't it's very helpful. And yes, your sense of humor is a little off, but that's part of your charm, don't change a bit.

  • @paradisefibers Hi there! I'm a 23 yr old female (a wussy wristed one) and I don't think your father was offensive at all!! he was making little puns. I've had enough of this "female equality" shenanigans. Yes women can do a lot that men can but let's face it, our bodies are naturally softer and more delicate. besides... we don't want to be manly and butch, that's just not what our men want. So don't be offended by the odd girly comment. embrace the fact that men love to help us!!

  • Hi Australia,

Again, sorry if you were offended by our video. Please refrain from referencing attacks on my father who is a great asset to our spinning community locally in nationally. We all need him, our new spinning wheel will be coming out soon, maybe after that you can sharpen your tines and plan a delayed attack.

  • I find it interesting that there are no comments whatsoever on safety... combs are incredibly sharp!

  • I need to try that sometime. Is that what they call "tops"?

  • Whoa. Is it just me or does the "gentleman" in this video seem a wee bit sexist? This is the second paradisefibers vid I have watched (first was about ballwinding w/a swift) where his comments made me cringe. Don't think I will be buying fiber/supplies there any time soon...

  • Hi, Sorry if "Dad" offended you. He has a quirky sense of humor and I assure you he's not...sexist.

  • @ScottLisa1 SEXIST!!!!YOUR A FUCKING MORON SAYING THAT THIS VIDEO WAS SEXIST!!!YOU JEW LOVING CUNT!!!!

  • Greetings from Scotland, and many thanks for the very helpful demonstration. Hope I can come back to you wit hmy questions once I get going. I'm about to make a start on a North Ronaldsay and a Castlemilk Moorit fleece.

  • Nice video, now I'm tempted to get some combs (I have the cards!). Now, where is your carding demo????

  • Thank you for this demonstration. I am wondering if this is exactly the same things as using hackles and a comb except there are 2 combs, or are they different puposes? In short, I am asking if I should get a set of hackles to do the same thing? Thank you.

  • Hi,

You would comb the wool after washing. Thanks for watching.

    Travis

  • Wonderful and informative video; thanks for the post! Question: would you comb the wool after it's been washed, or after it's been sheared?
