the reason why he picked the VIIB is because U-96 was one of the first VIIC's in action and still had a bow cutter thingy on it, but in Silent Hunter III all VIIC's dont have a cutter.

From what I could find, some of the early Type VIIC boats (like U-96) had the external designs of the Type VIIB. The boats built later removed the net cutter on the bow and improved the conning tower.

Cheers Henno. I used the German version for 2 reasons. It's the best version (I didn't like the english version voices) and it's more realistic as they certainly weren't speaking english on those boats. :)
