@MoonShineStables Primer and white paint are not the same thing. Primer is a tough type of paint that sticks to surfaces better and allows for paint to stick to it. If you just painted a regular Breyer with acrylics it would likely flake off.
@HelenaTheRider You can take the paint off with Easy Off Oven cleaner. You get thwarted and spray your horse with it and pit it on a ziplock bag for 2 and a half hours. Then you take your model horse out and wash it with warm water. Use a tooth pick or tooth brush to get the hard to reach places.
Is it ok just to spray the primer on, not skratching off the paint? And what do You think about removing the paint with nail polish remover, and then prime it?
@princelover12000 It can! If the scratches aren't too deep you can sand them down. If they are deep you can fill the scratches with apoxie sculpt or bondo.
@quarterhorselover100 Unfortunately there's never any shows in my area so I don't get to show myself. But horses I've painted and sold get shown and their new owners sometimes send me pictures.
wow thats really helpful! i have the go man go breyer set with them mare stallion and foal plus i have to customs and i did the customs and i guess they can look good from a distance LOL but they are really bad. i just watched this and i am gonna start with the pastels :) thanks!
What if you're going to customize it as a pure black horse? Would you prime it black instead, then pastel in lighter a bit in some areas as per reference?
@horselove151 Those holes are intentionally put there by Breyer so that there isn't trapped air inside the model that would cause it to bloat. I never fill them in and if I don't want a hole in the nose I fill it but create a new hole elsewhere such as the underside of the horse where its less visible.
Thanks to u I have completed two classic horses and one stabblemate. U watched ur videos and they turned out very nice. I will soon have videos on of them thanks so much
@5011barbara If you can leave it outside without it getting knocked over by anything that's best because the primer makes it smell after you put it on.
hey your really good... do ya know of a good product to use if you wanna gloss your model? I just etched and costomized my black stallion cause he was a MESS! Now I really wanna gloss him but want the gloss to actually look good. Thanks!

Prepping just gets rid of seams and other flaws the factory might have missed. You don't have to prep to pastel but it just makes the horse look a bit smoother

just a question if u were to sell 1 of them with a longer main what would it cost
breyerluver789 1 year ago
@breyerluver789 It would depend on what size model it is. Sculpting manes isn't easy and would cost more than the commission prices on my website.
SaturnineStudios 1 year ago
When you let the horse dry after priming, would you let it dry outside or in?

Points taken down for what? Removing the logo is fine, especially if its in a noticeable place. A lot of customizers remove it.
SaturnineStudios 2 years ago
my parents say that using sand paper will damage/scratch the breyer, so what sort of sand paper would work, very fine or just normal !?
picco8998 2 years ago
It will damage the horse but if you're repainting it that doesn't matter. A fine grain sandpaper woks best.
SaturnineStudios 2 years ago
wait, isn't the breyer model horse white underneath?
so don't you just have to put like tape were you don't want paint to go or something?
