Well in a way, yes, Anubis protects death. He is the god of embalment so he created the fashion of mummifying. He got that title and power because he put his father (god of death) back together, giving him the image of a mummy forever.

It's a bit sad that people think Anubis IS the god of death. I did too for so long. Guess that's just because he looks so badass and ment for such a title.
