  • SD YouTube is faster on my iPod which I can't change the quality on unless I use hacks

  • As crazy as it is I still buy VHS. (obviously if its a new movie ill either get dvd or blu ray) Even though I have an HDTV and a PS3 I continue to buy VHS Tapes. VHS tapes of older movies literally go for a penny on amazon. Eventually I'll upgrade to blurays completely but as of late I've been careless about quality but more concerned with just watching the films. Call me crazy...because i clearly am XD

  • Now me, I can really tell the difference between HD and SD, I went from using a 720p 23" Dell HD TV, to a crappy Sanyo 27" TV and holy shit it sucked trying to play my xbox 360 on it because the TV only did 480i

Now that I have a new Toshiba 32" inch 1080p LCD HDTV using HDMI for my 360 and future PS3 I can see a big difference, and after showing my parents this video and your other video Jon, now they can see the difference. Thank you for the videos, keep them up!

  • Ford is for homos

  • Try watching a vhs movie on 240p on a sd tv and 1080p HD on a 55" Sony brivia on a ps3 on HULU® with HDX. Then tell me if it's the same.

Thumbs up if its WAY DIFFERENT

  • it sucks because games don't support standard definition anymore, my parents won't buy me an hdtv, and as far as I know I can't find a place that sells sd tvs besides on online websites, but after a while the tvs decay even more over time blurring it more.

  • Ironically this video is not HD. :(

  • well your right about having to re-buy vhs but you can watch dvds on a bluray player

  • I watch Japanese videos on the internet, and I can tell the difference. So people who think SD and HD are the same.....SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TeamIKG don't take everything literally... gosh...

  • I like those new DVD/Bluray players, you can play your normal DVDs and your Bluray discs on the same machine and record 1080p and 480p videos and TV shows onto a HDD or USB drive (if you have the right configuration and model).

  • @Macintosh3745 - Newsflash:

All BR players are backwards compatible. All of them.

  • I love HD videos, but in my option, if you a just watching a 1 min clip of your family I wouldn't record in HD because like Jon said, "it's a little bit tricky to edit then SD."

  • Comment removed

  • You are completely right aswell, everyone says it doesnt make a difference and i just get annoyed as its stupid!

  • i already have a blueray player and its awesome way better than SD

  • i could tell the difference between those two options (the this and this thing) because this video is only standard def 480p and that isnt HD but proper HD yea i can always tell the difference

  • I remember when digital HD public TV came, it when from spending every commercial break fixing the antennas to seeing every out of place hair and zit on the the weather lady's face.... :)

  • Your swearing is funny.

  • @chelseafcman2 Why is it funny? What, are you 9 years old and think it's funny because YOU don't swear?

  • Get a ps3 lol

  • @BATTLEFIELDPCPS3 I believe he has one.

  • actually... I DO WATCH A BIG DIFFERENCE.... only when i go to BEST BUY.... LoL... cant afford the HD UPDATE.....

  • Some movies, like "who framed roger rabit" and some others, I can only watch on VHS. In a way, it's kind of like needing to listen to a song on vinle.

  • I must "be out of my fucking mind" I truly cannot see a difference. All I want is to sit down and watch a movie ^^;

  • I will say, as a 17-year-old tech geek, there is a HUGE difference between 480p DVDs and 1080p Blu-ray Discs. Unfortunately, many people turn a blind eye to this, saying that they can't notice a difference. Bullshit. I recently made the shift to Blu-ray (very late, I know), and the difference in quality? Instantly noticeable.

  • your ugly

  • @newvidoes4you You're*

He's not on Youtube to look like a beauty queen. You're probably just as ugly.

  • Don't mock the blind they have a lot of trouble they have to tap the computer with a white stick and put comments in brail! NO OFFENSE IF YOU OR A RELATIVE IS BLIND I'M JUST MESSING AROUND HERE!!

  • Comment removed

  • lol , keep tapping 7

  • wow, DVD, or VHS?

Anyway, I do use 360P because of bandwidth limitations on youtube, and videos on my computer do not render at 24FPS at 720P, but for a TV, HD is great.

  • Shit son you're a stupid Helen Keller!!!! GTFOUTTA MY HD YOUTUBES!!!

Oh silly people these days eat my blue laser.

  • fords suck balls

  • Actually you can play DVD on Blu-Ray band you can keep the VHS >-<

  • what if your eyes are so bad that they cannot tell the difference

  • Totally Truthfully, the is a little fucking difference that is absolutely not worth up to 2000 dollars :/ And i actually don't see the difference :/

  • [iminent=492jzlR59l2] to sd

  • i got a kodak z981 hd is it good jon message me thx

  • Comment removed

  • @ultramegachicken5 - You seriously don't make any sense at all...

  • on youtube, i don't see the difference, on tv, i see a huge difference. its kinda weird.

  • Hey Jon,

SHould i get a Audio Technica ATR2500 or a blue Snowball or a blue SnowFlake

  • HD vs SD in Verbal Definition. Anyway, the main difference between HD and SD is you get a choice between juvenile american movies in standard definition or juvenile american movies in high definition...and listen to juvenile idiots like the above in between.

  • @according2ed - hahaha... you're such an idiot, it's pathetic.

  • You do not know what your talking about today Jon. THEY ARE EXATLY THE SAME (PRETTY MUCH!!!!)

  • I Have A Hd Tv And When I Tryed Bluray it didnt help

  • @lukearnoldtv I think your right it doesn't make a difference. Jon just wants us to waste our money.

  • @techben505 - I'm sorry... but if you're not being sarcastic, you're an idiot.

  • @Jon I was being sarcastic can't believe he thought that i was serious.

  • The only way to know the difference between HD and SD is by owning both, in which I do.

  • why does your SD camcorder have a green tint to it's color?

I know this is way off from the subject but in the side by side examination and your ipad 1 review I noticed the green tint most heavily and it started to bother me as I've recently gone back and started re-watching your old videos (which obviously are in SD)

back on topic: I can obviously see the difference... too bad I don't have a blu-ray player or an HDTV (other than the family TV, but still no blu-ray player)

  • The Blu-Ray players also play DVDs in a better quality

  • i dont see a difrence from hd and blueray

  • @suemeejim715 - Maybe that's because they're the same thing?

  • @Jon you're right but in retrospect, if you haven't had anybody actually explain to you that Blu-Ray and HD is the same, it may sound a bit different, don't be rude, but yes they are the same thing. (Love your videos though)

  • @suemeejim715 Fail. Pathetically.

  • @suemeejim715 Maybe becauses theres no such thing as 'blueray', so you probably wanna look up blu-ray.

  • i don't really care either way, if it isn't broken don't fix it. my DVDs and TV are fine for me, i don't give a crap if HD or Bluray gives you more special features of better sound quality. it's basically a waste of money if you already have DVD, puls, Bluray discs costs almost twice as much as a regular DVD.

  • HD is fine. Off to edit some more 4k now. l8rs.

  • "You are out of your fucking mind" HAHAHA Fuck I love you :P

  • What's the difference with 1080p & 1080i

  • @nikko623 "p" stands for "progressive", as in the video is scanned in line by line. "i" stands for "interlaced", as in the video has two images (one containing even-numbered lines, one containing odd-numbered lines). Your TV puts the two images together to create the full video. All video on computer monitors today are progressive, which is the reason YouTube has "480p" and sometimes "1080p", not their interlaced counterparts.

  • My mum said there is no difference between HD and SD... Now She's Dead.

  • i can easily tell the difference; sd works fine, hd lags like shit and evry 30 seconds it stops the video because it has to load :(

  • @Supern00bmaster - That's an issue with your slow computer, and not the medium itself.

    But nice try...

  • @Jon i know and acctually its my internet prowider too i think. but 720p still works ok if i let it load for a bit...

evrything on my comp takes time i bet ud prolly throw my comp out of the window faster than a speeding bullet if u were to edit an episode of whatever om my comp xD

  • ur channel is nice. please tell me how can upload high definition video like BluRay when i upload the video it quality is very poor. so can u tell me how can i maintain my vidio quality like BluRay.

  • $800 for a TV....

I have a 25" TV HD in my room cost me £150...

My Blu ray player cost £50-£100

  • i do

  • you are shooting in sd

  • @shafiulhaque97 - For this particular video, yes... I realize that is ironic, but it doesn't have any bearing on my argument.

  • My tv is analog, but supports S-video which is as close as you can get to HD

  • i guess the main reasons why people don't see a difference, is because1. most content isn't in HD yet, it's just widescreen and 2. unless you get a HD version and an SD version and you are watching on a HDTV (yep, thats the catch, you need a HDTV to watch proper HD content, it doesn't count if you buy a blu-ray player, HD tuner and you connect it up to an SDTV because then your content is limited to fit to the TV settings) you won't be able to see the difference

  • @originalLDS1992 , and also some manufacturers sometimes do a piss poor job with the panels that they make them look really bad and also, especially with the bigger panels (+40") the do a shit job at scaling. about 32" to 40" is best for HD content. but make sure the content is HD for it to show it's best quality. but the main reason i won't switch to HD for movies and tv shows is because they make the content look really bad and in some cases give it more of a handheld cam look.

  • @originalLDS1992 i thought the whole point of HD was to have a better quality image, and not to have weird frame rate issues. but that's just what i think about HD

  • @originalLDS1992

    1) 95% or more of today's content is available in HD, actually.

    2) Obviously... don't be stupid.

    3) What is your point?

  • @Jon 98% of all statistics are made up. :)

  • @originalLDS1992

not true, they record movies is resolution mutch mutch mutch higher than full hd, there are camera that record 50 times the full hd resolution.

even movies from the 80\s where recorded in full hd, or maby even higher.

in the cinema, movie are ussaly film 2k, and film 4k.

basicly 2 or 4 times full hd

  • @ShooterCinema

i don't doubt the recording may be good, it's the playback where everything gets screwed up. i noticed on my brother's 46" lcd with an lg panel with 100Hz motion stuff, and also on a 50" panasonic plasma, that any format of video, whether it be hd, sd, dvd or blu ray that it made the video seem amateurish, they looked and felt really bad. it was just jittery . if you've ever seen the chase scenes from need for speed most wanted, it felt like that.

  • @originalLDS1992 the only thing i've found that works well are games, especially racing games. but don't try to compare a cinemas experience to a home experience (unless you're comparing to a really crap cinema) thousands to millions of dollars are spent on making sure the image is perfect or as close to perfect as possible, how much does the average home cinema experience really cost, possibly no more than $3000 realistically, whether or not that includes movies is irrelevant.

  • i love my ps3

  • i personally prefer a vhs over all else. i honestly dont care what quality the video is portrayed in, i just want to be able to see the video. for me, i prefer the vhs because it has a nostalgic sense to it, something that i value above all else.

  • i have avatar in dvd and blu ray its a super huge difference...its hard to explain but in blu ray there is no blurryness on the pixels its like you are looking outside a window in perfect quality

  • $650 without buying movies for me from what he sayed

  • i need to have an sd tv to play video games. i just dont give enough of a shit about hd to sacrifice a second between hitting the button and the action happenning. it doesnt seem like a long time, but when playing a game, you want the action to happen when you hit the button. and, my friend has the whole hd setup, it just comes off as annoying, its way too loud. i dont want to be in the movie, i want to watch it

  • beautiful language...fuyyy

  • It's a huge difference between 720 and 1080 too!

  • i hate when free concerts are 21+, i have missed so many blue oyster cult concerts at the wolf den because of that

  • FUCK UP. REAT US WITH CARE, I KNOW THAT THERE IS A LITTLE DIFFERENCE BUT NOT BIG. I HAVE AN HD CAMERA AND I KNOW IT BETTER THAN YOU. I AM NOT DUMB BLIND OR DEAFH, DO NOT SAY THAT YOU RETARD

  • @elevator1tom Stop trolling, you fail epically at it.

  • @theblackwingedsoul i reported you for harassment and cyberbullying

  • @elevator1tom Lolwut. Are you 5? Grow up, kid.

  • @theblackwingedsoul god dammit, i am 12.5 years old, shut the fuck up, RIGHT NOW BEFORE I PUT YOU ON MY BAD LIST AND BLOCK YOU!!! WHAT THE HELL HAVE I EVER DONE TO YOU

  • @elevator1tom Heh, you may be a fail troll but you are funny, dude.

  • How can I tell the difference between HD and SD in an SD video? Seriously, that's fucktarded.

  • we have HDTVs in our house, all of them are Full HD. I just wanna ask what's the difference of our TV compared to the ones I saw in a local electronics store that says HD Ready?

  • I used to use this video all the time to show people the advantages of HD vs SD, but it's no longer in HD, what gives???

  • wait. What is the difference? The difference i can see through those two pictures is a picture with a grey background and writing of "Standard Definition" and a picture with a green background and writing of "High definition" and the SD title is centered and the HD title is at the top and HD is bigger WTF i must be blind

  • @simplyJacobB - Watch my next video... seriously.

  • @Jon yeah i know the actual difference. one looks more blured and stuff,I've got a mix of SD and HD and woah they look different, but those two pictures with the green and grey, they had no difference.

  • @simplyJacobB Bigger picture, dude.

  • "he's ugly"

  • @8DTaylurh YEAH, I WANT JON TO QUIT COPLAINING

  • You never blink!

  • I was skeptical about a HDTV. I had a SDTV and as long as it was working, all was good. Then my SDTV went out so it put me in a situation to look at HDTV's. I finally bought a 32' Samsung LCD HDTV. And I couldn't believe what I was missing!

Watching a DVD through my PS3 on my HDTV, I see why people say they see no difference. I feel the same way. Then I watched a movie on Blu Ray and I was wrong again. Big difference.

I agree with you Jon.Thumbs up!

  • I think that it's rather ironic that this video is in SD.

  • How ironic, you're touting HD but this video is SD?

  • OMG 480P :(

  • I watch YouTube in 360p to save internet bandwidth and RAM consumption (Flash SUCKS BALLS for media) but I do see a difference.

  • It seems ironic to me that this video is not in HD

  • @SuperXD25 Well durr, YT didn't have HD or Jory had his camera. You just herped so hard you derped.

  • @SuperXD25 yes it.. was

  • if you have an SD TV can't you still watch HD content on it? because HD is technically just resolution, anything = to or higher than 1080x720 so if your TV downscales that to fit, it would look even more crisp right? because computers do that. Or are TV's different and can't downscale?

  • Haha, Its funny this is not in hd.

  • Jon I think it depends on the size of the TV, I have a 32' TV and you can eaily tell the difference between HD and SD(the TV is an HD TV) and I have a 52' HD TV and you can't tell a difference other then the DVD player displays in a green shade because I never changed the settings to default:P...

  • @w1ldyovvnz - What you're saying doesn't make much sense.

Trust me, I can tell the difference between SD and HD anywhere. It is very obvious.

  • @Jon If you look at my 52" TV and you look at the 32" TV on the 52" TV you can see the pixels at a closer distance then the 32" TV. if you look from 4-5 inches away you can tell the difference, But the comparison isnt really fair because ones LCD and the other is plasma.

  • you don't NEED 5.1

Yes its cool but 2 hi fi speakers would sound better than some shitty creative 5.1 set

  • @andrewdavies4 - No... but a good 5.1 set is unarguably better than 2.1

  • @Jon He actually said two speakers, meaning 2.0, meaning no sub. It destroys his argument.

  • @andrewdavies4 Listening to 6 channels of audio is worse than listening to those same channels through only 2 speakers? The fuck?

  • @TheTigerStrike

Not if the 5.1 speakers are shit!

If you have a good pair of speakers and a shit 5.1 system the 2 speakers would be better

  • @andrewdavies4 Well no shit. What's the point of even making the comment then? That's like going out of your way to say that 2>1

  • @TheTigerStrike

Thats what I was saying in the first case which makes your argument pointless.

  • @andrewdavies4 My argument of shit 5.1 vs Hi Fi 2.0 yes.

My argument of you going out of your way to say that being stupid still is though.

  • @TheTigerStrike

How is it stupid cos some people think that 5.1 is amazing and end up spending money on a set of 5.1 speakers thats are not great quality but with the same money you could get some nice hi fi speakers

  • @andrewdavies4 Unless the people are honestly stupid enough to spend less than $400 on a surround system then yes. But those people probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference any way :P

  • If HD is sooooo good than why is this video in SD?

  • @mafiawarsmaster28 to make a point?

  • @Kiwi653

    I guess...

  • hahaha its not worth buy new tv just to watch blu ray movies, stupid

  • Just followed your advice and bought an HD TV. Thanks, Jon.

  • Hi, Jon im thinking about getting HD camera cause SDs price is about the same... so.... whats should i do?

  • @glosarity He has a camera buying guide on the channel.

  • HAHA YOUR FUNNY JON!

  • Hi Jon. I completely understand your explaining the difference between HD and SD. However, would you be able to give some insight on why there has been such a difference in the quality of my videos I've uploaded to Youtube? My first videos done in SD are perfectly clear. However, when I got a new HD camera and uploaded a video from it, the video on Youtube had less clarity sharpness. Also would the difference in formats matter? The SD was uploaded as a .WMV. The HD was uploaded as a .MPG. Thanks

  • I agree

  • I mean in the space of 10-12 years we've gone from VHS-DVD-upscaled DVD-HD and now 3D ! Boy, would I love to have a pick of that money tree that these companies seem to think we have, I've got nearly 1000 dvd's - how am I meant to upgrade to HD let alone 3D? Win the lottery ?

  • I have a BR and a good 1080p upscaler and although there is a discernible improvement in PQ I don't think it's worth the money upgrading to HD in general except for maybe my most favourite films, bluray for now in the UK at least is still too damn expensive. The problem is these consumer giants want everyone to follow the upgrade path and spend the big bucks folks just don't have.

  • how about best porn site

  • sd is good

    hd is better

  • Or, just get a PS3. It's got blu-ray! =P

  • what if i play a dvd in a blu ray player?

how good is the quality then?

  • @AfternoonProductions pretty much the same as if u were to play it on a dvd player.

  • @redknight802 ahhh, i see.

    thanks

  • hahaha great intro

  • by the time i switch to HD, everything will be 3D. So, i'll just wait.

  • on the TV it is a difference if u look from like 1-3 feet but at a distance there's a MINOR difference.you can stick to a dvd because they are cheaper and still look good

  • you need to buy a new TV and surround sound for a blue-ray player, crap

  • funny how this video says HD is so awesome while it's max resolution is 480p also known as SD.

  • SD tvs are really old to enjoy films, mine is from 3 years ago and it suports up to HD Ready (720p) the old HD, and is not as well as FullHD(1080p) but is really better than SD Tvs, I don't see DVDs on it, and I don't have BR, so I uses HDMI and my laptop.

If you pay by a film better in BlueRay. VHS is as DVD as DVD is as BlueRay, really improves quality and resolution.

  • Hey Jon, my monitor is 1680x1050. can i still watch full hd videos without the extra 30 rows of pixels?

  • sd looks fine on my 46' lcd i still watch vhs tapes ffs

  • jon ill almit i was on that mind set tht i didnt see a dif while my family was on the corect mind set in which hd is much better and uve insired me to look into it and notice the diference in hd and im not going back

  • Could you make a vid about which resolutions there will be in the future and if need higher res ?

  • the difference DOESNT MATTER. i DONT see the difference. im not going to pay double for something that takes ages to load and there be no difference. stuff it. the only way BD are going to win me over is BD3D. otherwise DVDS are better! theyre faster, cheaper, simpler, end of story.

  • What is the point in having HD format when you have a TV which is lower than 32 inch in size, there is really no differance

  • I can tell a huge different my TV is my room = shiity TV in living room = awesome I watched the National College Championship game in HD and it was 10000000x better than SD

  • HD all the way

  • A problem with your prices in the first minute. I got my 37" HDTV for $500, bluray player on sale for $75, and surround sound system on craigslist (works great) for $50

  • I love bly ray

  • Jon, what if you have a SD television, on which you play DVD movies, in my opinion, DVD on SD TV looks just a good as BD. (for those idiots, BD is short for Blu-ray disc)

I am not in the market for another TV, and do not plan to be so anytime soon, I have some SD TV'S that are about a decade old, and they work just fine. the only reason why I think you are pushing blu-ray so much is because SD television are not even being made.

  • @Zeldagigafan90210 - If you have an SD TV?

    Buy a new TV...

  • @Jon I will, when the msrp for the newest 3d televisions becomes as low as $500, and I only mentioned 3d because they will be dominating the market.

  • @Zeldagigafan90210

Just an observation, you used the acronym BD once, and proceeded to undermine the reader's intelligence by using more characters than it would have taken to just say "Blu-Ray" (which you say again near the end of your message)

On another note, I also love the games of Zelda :D If that is where your name stems from.

  • @sjmcg316 that's right, that is where my user name stems from. the 90210 was just to differ from other people who might have the same name as me.

  • @Zeldagigafan90210 blu ray only looks better than dvd on hd tvs

  • @MajCinematic watch his previous video, I believe its video editing make Jon go crazy.
